Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I wish I knew someone that worked on Porsches and wouldn't mind replacing the breakpads for me ...

I was quoted 900 which is for the breakpads sensors, etc alone but my mechanic said rotors may have to be replaced if it doesn't pass some thickness test imposed by California state law...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

From personal experience how long do you usually have to switch the breakpads when the sensory sign comes on? Mine was coming on and off a week ago and now it looks like its staying on permanently

POST 2Original post

Brakes pads are easy and cheap to do and is a DIY project. You can probably get pads at Autozone or similar shops if you don't want to cough up the dough for factory street pads. Have a look at how much material you have left. You should be able to see right into the caliper and check, probably without having to take off the wheel. Use a flashlight. They pads are a problem when you start to rub steel on steel

POST 3Original post

How soon after the fuel warning light goes on do you get fuel? I would change them before you ruin the rotor$.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey thanks for the input guys... I plan to get them done in a few weeks. I was quoted 900 which is for the breakpads sensors, etc alone but my mechanic said rotors may have to be replaced if it doesn't pass some thickness test imposed by California state law... I wish I knew someone that worked on Porsches and wouldn't mind replacing the breakpads for me ... Prob make things a lot easier

POST 5Original post

It is easy to do. Follow these steps in the Tech Bulletin. Pelican Technical Article: Replacing Boxster Brake Pads - 986 / 987

POST 6Original post

here are a couple of links from you tube if you are a DIY man. BTW you need to change them now or they will mess up the rotors. I am 71 never did a brake job before and I found it pretty easy to do myself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC16WXBcE7Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--6HLa3Vays To remove the pads you have to remove the calipers to first remove the vibration dampers along with the pads. Some trackers take them out and throw them along with the brake sensor wires. Hopefully your car is not one of those cars. remove the vibration dampers with a 1 inch wood chisel and use them again. They will stick hard on the new pads the first time you brake. Sensor wires are easy to install.
