Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Need help. Left lights on and have a dead battery. i can enter the car with manual key but I can not open the Hood or the trunk as the levers are locked. 98 porsche boxster . Please advise. Also can you charge the battery through the cigarette lighter?

POST 2Original post

I don't have a 986 so there might be some unique pitfalls I'm not aware of. On older (pre- 981 ) cars you can usually connect a battery maintainer using the cig lighter socket. I wouldn't try any charger that puts out more than the rating for that circuit/fuse. I'm guessing than means 10-15 Amps. A small charger/maintainer might give your battery enough of a boost to allow the switch to be used. Do you have an owners manual? That should explain how to open the front trunk when the battery is dead. I'm not sure if the 986 procedure is the same as 987. On a 987 there is a way to connect a donner battery directly to the fuse panel to open the frunk. Also, there is an emergency release cable to release the mechanical latch. However it is rather difficult to access, requiring removal of the front left wheel and the fender liner.

POST 3Original post

Another option is that newer models have an emergency cable in the wheel well - I would hope that the 986 has this as well. You need to find and pull that cable to manually release the hood latch. Check the manual for this info, to be sure your 986 has it... and it's the same/similar place as newer ones.

POST 5Original post

Damnit... sorry @RSchwerer you did mention that... I skimmed the post and missed it. MY MISTAKE!
