Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When the airbag light is on, does that just indicate that a fault has been detected or does it also indicate the the entire system is disabled? Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk

Ike, My understanding is that if you get an airbag light the entire system will be disabled. Airbags are explosive devices. So when there is an issue the system is disabled due to potential liability issues.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's what I figured too, but an "all or nothing" system seems like a liability in and of itself. Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk

POST 4Original post

Not quite correct; it depends upon why the light is on (which code). For example, if the deceleration sensor or control module is offline, everything is disabled; if just one air bag circuit is disconnected or shorted, only that air bag is offline. Systems also vary by model year, later ones being more sophisticated than the earlier ones.
