This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If you replace the flywheel, which is not always required, than that is probably not too far off.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am sorry if this has been posted before. I was told by a local independent shop that the flywheel is suggested to replace when replacing the clutch and quoted $2,500~ parts/labor.
Is this statement and quote sound reasonable?
If you replace the flywheel, which is not always required, than that is probably not too far off. The list price on a dual mass flywheel is close to $1,000 and the rest of the clutch at dealer prices is close to that. Now you can get a dual mass flywheel for closer to $500 and the other parts for about the same, so it depends on what the indy is charging or the parts.
FAIL
there is a test for the dual mass flywheel and it has nothing to do with the mating surface area the disc rides on

Thanks guys. This give me an idea how much I should expect. I am hesitating whether to replace the clutch first or selling the car as is since the clutch is due next.
I got lucky about 5 years ago and found a brand new, in the box, OEM Porsche dual mass flywheel on eBay for $100 (I am always watching eBay for deals like this) and bought it. My wife thought I was crazy but I stuck it in my workroom. 2-3 years later I had to do my clutch, and the indy who was doing it (this was before I started doing most of the work on the car myself) said I needed a new flywheel. Went home, got the flywheel and handed it to him. Then my wife did not think I was so crazy.
In any case there are a few LUK aftermarket ones on eBay for about $700, and many for a lot more than that. But here is one for $589.99, new in the box, Porsche OEM. msroadrace seems to be pretty reliable. Not a bad deal if you want one. Porsche has actually superceded the number from 996.114.012.03 to 996.114.012.04, list is #1,141.52, Sunset, Suncoast and Porscheoemparts.com about $879.54.
Thanks Dharn55! $100 for a flywheel is a steal!
From the picture the seller posted on ebay, it seem rusted so I sent a message to the seller to confirm for the item. =)
