Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Same with your water pump unless it's been replaced over the last 5 years.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all. I have been a BMW guy since 21 years old and just sold my 99 M Coupe to buy a 2002 996 with X51 package, 200 cell cats, exhaust, and aero kit. Car also came with stock front bumper and stock rear hatch. Super pumped.
Car has 53k miles on it and has most service records.
The only real concerns on the car is the IMS bearing was replaced at around 30k miles but back in 2011. It's a LM engineering one. Not sure if I should get that done again. Also I believe it has stage 1 clutch and clutch pedal is heavy, like foot cramp in traffic heavy. Not sure if on way out or if that is how it's supposed to be.
Besides that it seems pretty clean besides a few small broken things like signal stays stuck left and doesn't stick going right.
I'll get all these sorted tho as I love this car so far and am hoping for many years in the Porsche world.
This is an old listing of my car I found.

Any insight about anything will always be appreciated 👍
Yeah pretty cool deal. The guy that bought my M coupe read my listing an knew I was looking for a 996 and his friend was selling his so I just essentially paid the difference between the M coupe and the 911. The X51 is what made me do the deal.
Congrats on the car! I used to run with the Schuh Syndikat myself but in a Z4MC. The clutch pedal effort is a LOT higher in the Porsche compared to any of my BMWs, so get used to it. LN Engineering website should have information on replacement intervals.
Congrats on the x51 purchase. Very tough to find. Love the color but I am biased.
In answer to your question, you have an 11 year old LN IMSB Retro and you should replace it. Same with your water pump unless it's been replaced over the last 5 years. Check your AOS as well. I would replace it with the UAOS Track. If you refresh these 3 parts, you pretty much mitigate 3 catastrophic failure points of the M96 fairly easily.
There are also easy to do procedures on additional topics such as bullet proofing the engine for the track and mitigating the risk of bore scoring if/when you have an interest.
Regarding your clutch, it sounds like you may be missing your helper spring. Pretty common. Mine broke on the track and fell to the floor. You don't need it for the clutch to function. But it sure does make using the clutch pretty damn heavy without it. Quite frankly, I did without mine for a number of years until I started teaching my kids how to drive a stick. The heaviness made it tough for my daughter so I put in a new helper spring.
Enjoy the car. It's a beaut.
Very funny that the PO of your car seemingly went through the effort to make your car less driveable to make it more GT3-esque haha. Hopefully it is just the helper spring. As you're from the BMW world, you're probably well aware of the CDV on BMW clutches, no such annoyances on your car (although the Turbo does have an accumulator). Fantastic buy!
Maybe a couple dumb questions here, I thought I knew my X51's... but 1. Did not know you can have non-turbo 996 X51 cars. 2. Is that GT3 "look" factory with the package?
So all new to me but yes X51 is available for non turbos adds 25hp supposedly. Can be factory installed or after purchase as dealer installed, I think. This was installed after purchase from original owner for around 14k. The aero kit I believe doesn't come with the X51, again, I think. This was also added after initial purchase from original owner. I have stock trunk lid and front bumper.

Yes, it is a 996.1 C2 with a factory X51, Aerokit, M030 suspension, sport seats, etc. It was positioned between the base C2 and the GT3 for performance. That said, they was not imported to North America due to emissions standards and research suggests not many exist.
X51 = unique ECU map, X51 heads, larger aluminum intake manifold, X51 specific headers, some minor oiling improvements to help bank 2. X51 was designed as a back up motor in case the Mezger failed, which of course it never did. At the time, cars with X51 were the most powerful NA motor that was not a Mezger and a pretty pricy option at about $9k, in early 2000 money. It's a cool option and a rare one on non-40AE cars.
