Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

So it had always been a curse of the 986 /996. And now it is time for me to start researching for my own personal sake. 2003 986 , 2.7L. 105,000 miles. Original IMS and clutch. Being that it is original and the car has 105,000 - looking to replace both. Any ideas on the cost to have this done?

POST 2Original post

I did a google search on "2003 boxster IMS repair cost" and found several posts in various forums with the information you are looking for. Here is what cargurus posted: For a 2000-2005 model, it costs about $2500 to install a ceramic bearing IMS replacement versus the approx. $20,000 cost of replacing an engine. Say we have a 1 in 10 failure rate, that works out to $2000 per car (on average). There is also 986forum.com (not to steer you away from this site).
