Based on my research which there is very little information out there about this swap, it sounds like my
Cayman S
3.4L
ECU
is able to run the 2.7L just fine?
Anyone else have any experience with this? Currently my car not only starts and runs the 2.7L on the factory 3.4L
ecu
but it seems to run it well without any issues. Do I need to get the 2.7L
ECU
flashed for my car/key or Is this okay to run the 2.7L on my stock
cayman S
3.4L
ecu
?
The ECUs are completely different, so if you don’t have a
PIWIS
to code the 2.7 parts to work with your car, I’d leave it alone.
Just to be clear, currently the car is running without any noticeable issues using 3.4L
ECU
with a 2.7L engine and wiring harness. Is this okay to continue to drive or should I get the 2.7L
ECU
re-flashed for my car? I'm only asking again because you're saying their completely different...
Thank you for the response.
I am intrigued!
So there has to be a story for the swap. I love the unexpected direction of bigger to smaller. But then I love the 2.7 anyways.

Do you have a way to datalog ?? The numbers would tell you how well it is running. Cant be too far off or you would get codes.
Bought the car at auction with blown 3.4L swapped to 2.7 with intention of building the 3.4L for turbo
next
year.
looking to hearing more about this. it's a rarity to lower the displacement of an engine let alone bank on an EMU compatibility between the larger and smaller ones.
Everything so far has been running perfectly, no issues as mentioned above. Got my labs back on the oil and it's a healthy engine. I didn't change wiring harness, and it's literally I
plug
and play bolt in affair. The only thing I need to change is the reverse lights connectors are different between 5spd and 6spd.
I do plan to turbo this 2.7 then the 3.4 but not clear as to which
ECU
or Flash would work best? Any takers?
wondering if it will work in reverse. 2.7l to 3.4l. i'm guessing no, otherwise there would be examples all over the internet. surely the wiring harness would be different.
That's awesome that everything seems to work. If I were you, I would at least take it to a tuner shop so they can put it on a dyno and make sure everything is running safely. Alternatively, if you have a way to monitor fuel trims and timing while you drive, as long as those are normal looking, you should be fine.
I
I know this is an old post but I am possibly about to do this and I just wanted to confirm all that needs to be done to make it happen.
You took out the 3.4 and put in the 2.7 with the 2.7’s wiring harness and the 3.4 ECU and that was it, it ran?
OP hasn't been on the forum in a year.
Did you end up doing this? Im considering the same for my 987.1 S that spun a rod bearing.
