one other note...I put on a mkII bumper on the rear instead of the spatulas and it completely changed the look of the car as you can see below.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, I picked up a 1999 996 C2 with factory Aero kit, not long ago, and have been doing some things to it as i go.

Im interested in getting some kind of front splitter for it. It seems as though many of them specify for a stock bumper, which seems to have a different enough shape from my front bumper, that i doubt they would work? im just not a fan of how much it comes back up from the fenderwell to the nose. id prefer a flatter bottom side profile. I have seen some fairly thin ones. maybe a couple inches. but can not seem to be positive im finding the right one?
I have also been looking at one of these... if i could make it work somehow. or find one ment to fit my bumper
the Getty Folded Lip Splitter, but it as well says for stock bumpers...

And if i was to find something a little more drastic like that, I have been really looking at possibly adding the rest of the Aero Kit. Adding the rear skirt pieces(honestly dont know what the right name is for them)

anyone have a set of those laying around they dont want? or a good place to get them reasonably?
Hmm, that is interesting. yes the price is right. I haven't taken the front bumper off yet (intend to to clean the radiators etc) but it seems as though its not to hard. A person could almost have a couple bumpers and swap on occasion... lol
I did find some pics of one actually on a car
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...t3-bumper.html
I also suppose i could find (somewhere...) a stock front bumper, to mount that Getty splitter to, and keep my Factory Aero front bumper stock. but that would bump up my cost decently i would think
This is the part number for the factory splitter if you have an Aero bumper. It is attached with plastic pins that mount through the bottom of the bumper cover.

Thanks! My understanding is that should be this splitter. which doesnt look bad at all.

It seems as though (if im understanding correctly) that some people have taken a more aggressive one from a newer year aero kit car and trimmed it a bit to make it fit? sounds like there are multiple sizes of those as well though?
something like this i think?! I'd like something a little more on the aggressive appearing end if i can find something.
gt3angle.jpg
I've even been trying to track down some kind of Dive Plane that will fit my frontend.

Oh I'm sure of that! its Lowered, and even without the splitter i have to pay attention. But I'm fine with that.
I'm very used to driving things with minimal clearance! One of my other summer Daily Drivers is a 70 GMC shortbox. It's not slammed, but its dropped 5/7 so you definitely have to pay attention

I think this is the splitter you want. Its almost impossible to find and was lucky enough to find an extra one so that I can replace if anything happens to the old one. Let me dig it out and see if I can find a pn number on it. While the one on my car is black, my extra one that needs to be painted since it is a gray color.
one other note...I put on a mkII bumper on the rear instead of the spatulas and it completely changed the look of the car as you can see below. The rockers flow nicely into the features of the new bumper. Also, clear front headlights would really clean up the front of the car as well.
thanks for that. so i'll show off my lack of ability to distinguish between the mk1 areo cars and the mk2 aero cars yet. I assume the yellow one you posted is yours? is that an mk1 like my 99, or is it a later mk2?
from what i think im finding searching this, this is the later model, which i seem to have read can be made to fit with some trimming?
I also found these posts discussing these as well. and showing them together.

oh believe me, i know the headlights would. as well as the taillights. i wish they werent so dang much just to change that! eventually it will happen, just going to take me a bit.
I design and build motorcycle/cars pretty much as a living (may not seem like it since i work in a motorcycle shop slinging parts, but i redesign alot of things from the ground up for people. its all about how things flow, and where your eye is drawn) I am VERY particular
1999-2001 MkI
2002-2004 MkII
I have enclosed a side by side with my car with MkII bumper next to black car with MkI though it is hard to see so I have also enclosed a picture of my car when it had a MkI bumper. The MkII bumper is much fuller with the nicer lower feature below the license plate. Makes the car look much wider and less like a jelly bean. The nice thing is that feature below the plate flows nicely into the rockers.
Thanks, that is the nickname my friends use for the car and as such the great guys at Eastside Auto Salon surprised me when I had XPEL put on the freshly repainted car. It is now there for good :-)
so your running mk1 front bumper and side skirts, and mk2 rear bumper? As well as an mk2 splitter under the mk1 front bumper?
the backend is filled out more. its subtle but noticable.
Thanks for the responses. It gets me aimed in the right direction. Still unsure of exactly what route I'm going to go, but I have more info which is very helpful!
I ordered that part, as mentioned in the post above, from Pelican Parts, and I received an email that it doesn't fit my car. My order was cancelled by them. Apparently, that part does not fit a 2001 Aero? Any ideas? Thank you.
The bumper cover you have highlighted is a standard cover. The Aerokit 1 bumper is 996-505-980-02 G2-X. The lip 996-505-986-00 only fits the Aerokit 1 bumper.
Sure looks like MK1. Try ordering it from ECS Tuning. If for some reason it does not fit, they are really good on returns. BTW, the lip comes with the fasteners you need to mount the lip to the bumper.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but have any of you noticed the JUMP in price for the splitter? I can't remember exactly what I paid for it years ago, but I do remember it was around 100-150 bucks. I just started looking to buy another one and wow.
1999-2001 Porsche 911 Spoiler 996-505-986-00 | Sunset Porsche Parts
Over 400 bucks for a tiny piece of plastic.
996-505-986-02 G2X is cheaper at around $300.
2002-2005 Porsche 911 Spoiler 996-505-986-02-G2X | Sunset Porsche Parts
I should have bought two when they were cheaper. Mine is has a piece broken off of it after rubbing it on a steep driveway.
Demon Speed is now making a repro cup splitter for the mk2 gt3 bumper. I have fitted a factory cup splitter to my mk1 gt3 aero bumper so the DS one should work. I did have to drill new holes and flex it a little but it works and looks good.
This came up
in a thread from last July
.
I mentioned that I paid $118.00 for it in 2017 and when I checked at the time of the July thread, Sunset had it for $380.00. So just in the last five months it has gone up another $30.00.
Are you in CT? What track is that? Cool Aero. I like the red on red look.
Thank you both. I emailed Demon Speed. Appreciate the feedback. I'm not against spending money on the car, but spending that much on such a small piece of plastic, that was expensive at 150 bucks for what it is IMO, is just stupid.
That was Pocano. De=Delaware Jeeper
I think there r a lot if stupid $150 pieces on our cars and the splitter is not one of them. The functionality and effectivness at speed is worth every penny, Imho.
Ah, nice. I saw the CT plate. I also have a CJ, as you probably noticed.
I agree with you. My speed at Lime Rock really isn't that high to be honest. Prob 115-120 ish at the very end of the front straight. I really don't see myself going anywhere else. I did it more because I felt it completed the look of the front bumper. I wonder what the actual aero difference the little splitter on my car even does. It's certainly not very aggressive, as yours is.
Well here is the set up at lrp. Not bad speeds there as its a short straight. Im pretty slow to but when i get to 135 at vir and watkins u can feel it. U need to expand your tracks
.
Im kinda just guessing based on where I was in 4th. Im probably slower, but I never once looked at the speedo, so whatever. Im prob only going to get in a few DE events a year, so Lime Rock works well based on location. Fun time though.
Hoping to hear back on the splitter. I will share what they say. Mine isnt too bad for now. Thanks.

So after searching all over for a reasonable replacement for my 996.1 OEM GT3 splitter, 996-505-986-00, I gave up. I found a reproduction of it in the UK, but they were miserable to deal with. After 15 plus emails, I decided to go another route.
Here is the one in the UK:
https://clubautosport.co.uk/product/...3-lip-spoiler/
I ended up going with the demon speed reproduction of the factory Motorsports splitter. Which is a reproduction of factory part number 996-505-986-91. Im hoping this works well and will post a picture when installed.
https://www.demonspeedmotorsports.co...996Spoiler.htm
I believe this is what De Jeeper is running. Its also $165 vs nearly $500.
Yup, i did buy the ds one as an extra. The one in the pic is a factory mk2 cup splitter that was ftom my gt3 donor.
i did have to drill new holes in the bottom of the bumper and flex it a little at the ends but i think it looks fine.
Just ordered two from them, but I'm having them delivered to a buddy in the UK. Called them yesterday and they said they will ship to the US, but I didn't ask for a quote.
Possibly. I want to see what kinda quality they are before making a larger order. Also considered ordering the Genuine part from FCP, and making use of the lifetime warrantee whenever it gets damaged.
Well let me know. I could always just send you money and help out with the shipping. The quote from them was 50 euros. But, it really didn't change the shipping much if someone decided to order like 10 of them at once. I tried buying a few like you are, but the company stopped responding to my emails. I'm not far from you. The demon speed one is on backorder. More should be in soon though. They said a few weeks.
Any update on this? Curious to see how they worked out for you.
For reference, Sunset has them priced at $490 now. I was hoping demonspeed would make them. I tried the 996.2 spitter from them, but I didn't care for it.

They're sitting in my garage now. Look to be good quality, but I don't have an OEM one for comparison. Holes need to be drilled. My aero bumper is getting painted (along with the rest of the car) this month. I'll share some pics once I get them installed.
