I've bought an old car, have to wait 6-8 weeks though till it arrives and ready to drive here in NL, but did not want the high speed only cars any more, I like the more analog 'simple' cars, also because my brains can't coop with all modern tech and I want to like that I can fix smal-ish things myself, things that I can see and follow and then can repair inside my head so to speak.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Folks, Apologies if this topic has already been covered previously. I have been away for awhile. Does anyone know even roughly what the UK allocations are for the 718 GT4? I previously had a 981 Spyder from new which I absolutely loved - had it for just over a year - it was my daily & did some nice road trips. When I came to sell I even made a tiny bit on it. I have been offered a 718 GT4 allocation. This for me would be a massive purchase. I would like to have some fun for maybe a couple of years but don't want to be rinsed when I come to sell. I know we all don't have a crystal ball but i did hear that for this GT4 iteration there were going be much higher numbers. Cheers

POST 2Original post

2 years use at 8k miles say a £15k loss as apart ex. less if you spec clever and sell private. that's a cash sale of course, finance add another £15k loss in interest.

POST 3Original post

Some people may say this is too harsh but personally I’d go into it thinking it will cost you between £20k and £30k to own it. I think cars are already available at list so that implies owners are getting something like £5k less than they paid if they are selling SoR. According to howmanyleft there were 240 in the country at the end of Q1 with just under 200 Spyder’s. So between the two of them a healthy amount already. With the 981 I think it was roughly 600 GT4’s and 200 Spyder’s so I think it’s a fair assumption that volumes will be increased on that. If you can afford it go for it !

Cheers The old 981 GT4 can now be bought for around £65-70k (list was £65k) When they came out you could not get one for love nor money and they were selling for around £110-120k which was silly The new 718 GT4 can now be bought for around £85-100k (list price £76k) Judging by a few posts on here, a new one is available if you ring around. Make of that what you will.

Buy it, drive it, expect to lose plenty of money. If you don't, it's a bonus. That's always my approach.

Make of that what you will. Having called many dealers over the past few weeks I wouldn’t say a slot for a new one is either easily or readily available (unless you have the much discussed “relationship” with the dealer). All but one dealer met my request with disdain really but saying that I managed to get the one offer Of a car which I’ve taken but there were a fair few other factors Involved in this all of which conspired to leave me in the right place at the right time. Re values, of course you will lose some money on one but I suspect it will likely be a lot Less than almost all other Similar performance cars new cars out there. Me, I’m going to spec mine for myself and drive it a lot/enjoy every mile. Will decide in a few years Whether to keep longer term or trade against another new GT car.

POST 7Original post

Most cars lead to being rinsed at the other end unless you’re buying extremely limited production. If you keep the car long term then it’s not as bad.

POST 8Original post

Where else can you buy a 4 litre, N/A, manual, mid engined sports car these days? Stuff like this just doesn’t get built anymore. Who knows, in a few years it may be even more difficult to buy something like this, if not impossible. It’s still pretty hard to get one now, I don’t think you’d have much luck just ringing round.

Yes, agreed. BMW have given up by going turbo, merc don’t appeal so that just leaves the Italians

If you do not want your allocation, I would like it! GT silver, buckets, PCCB brakes and a few other bits will equal a very special car!

It’s not a cheap car now, and if you have a bit more a 2nd hand GT3 is a far better buy.

If you are looking t that age of car would a 2016 GT4 not be a better buy For me the GT3 is a lovely lovely car but probably to fast and too big for the roads I like to thrash around in. But if it it had rear seats then it could be a fantastic car as you could use it occasionally as a family car and take the kids with you. POST 17Original post

It's not a dilemma as you can't cross shop if you don't have budget for 125/130K, at the time of asking. If you do have £125/130K - the only option is a 991.2 GT3 IMO. You can buy it, No mods required, drive the wheels off it. 90-100K is 991.1 GT3 territory... but I'd personally skip this (not knocking the car - just my opinion, and save more and to down to the next level...) Up to 90K - the safe choice is the 718 GT4 Up to 70K - 981 GT4

I went for a 718 GT4 as I prefer the Cayman to the 911, and new cars, so for £90k-ish for a brand new car specced by me was what I wanted. It's an extra £40k-ish or 50% more for a 991.2 GT3 - a not insignificant increase. People aren't really cross shopping the 718 GT4 and the 991.2 GT3. If you can afford the GT3, that's what most people will buy.

If that is the case then surely just get the GT4 nd use the £25-30K saving on some epic track days The 991.1 GT3 is a great value package at the money especially the later cars with revised replacement engines backed by Porsche warranty. Good that the 981 GT4 is, the GT3 really is on a different level if you don't mind PDK S. The 991 GT3 is actually slightly narrower than the 718 GT4 mirror to mirror and both cars unlike many others which have become too bloated are imo of an optimum width for typical B road blasts unlike e.g. a 458 488 etc. the wider girth which typically adversely affects progress. In terms of production numbers my OPC is receiving only 2 max 3 allocations for manual cars for the rest of 2020 and mine is an October build. PDK will be first run 2021 but future numbers are unknown tbh but fewer PDK cars are expected. Reckon there will be around 500 UK cars in total. Usual forum talk of all these available 718 GT4 slots is largely bulls t imo as not one poster can vouch for obtaining a slot by randomly ringing round OPCs and the allocation process is still the same as any Porsche GT by invitation only although good luck to anyone for trying if they manage to obtain a car. If you do manage to secure an allocation for this year and actually want a car it may be prudent to take it simply because 2021 cars could well incur a 10% hard Brexit surcharge and Porsche may well be reluctant to absorb this bearing in mind the already wafer thin/ almost non existent profit margins on the GT4 and Spyder.

I don't buy that Porsche make 5000 of these models WW, the margins are massive and Porsche are king at Options adding £10k £20k on each and every car sold. I expect the718 to be no different they cannot even be arsed to fit a new gear box as an example and the cars are £90k a pop. The margins will be the give or take same as a base Cayman other wise they would not get signed off. this is why the new 4.0l GTS is a tad more money , more than the old GT4 in fact due to recouping that engine cost on the same platform. they make £15k on ave per car they will be doing the same on the 718 GT cars no problem

Difficult to prove but I reckon that the GT4 and Spyder are probably one of the least profitable cars Porsche make especially bearing in mind the lower production runs and list price on a basic car. Yep we all know the cost of options but imo Porsche are on balance reasonably priced for what you get especially compared to other manufacturers offering effectively less for more ££.

Well I paid my deposit today and locked down my spec: https://cc.porsche.com/icc/ccCall.do?userID=EG&amp... Car will be delivered in Oct/early November. As the OP alluded to cars being delivered in 2021 could be subject to a 10% price increase an customers are being asked to sign that they accept this may happen. I am delighted to get a allocation - my dealer only got 3 further slots so they have had 9 cars in total this year.

Quite similar to the spec I chose for similar delivery date, except I went for more daily driver stuff like cruise and park sensors, oh and red! Interestingly I didn’t get quoted re the Brexit 2021 thing.

Good value too but imo the carbon sills are an expensive step too far especially illuminated lol. The dark aluminium is a touch dull scratches and dents easily but usual story if some like it fine and each to their own.

Gentian is ok but a non GT colour and probably the most specced colour on the GT4 so there will be loads around. Being a dark colour it looks good especially with silver wheels black not so good. Climate chrono and extended leather all good options. Clubsport expensive as are ceramics on a GT4.

Cruise Bose Speed limiter Auto dim and light design pack do little to enhance value. The external light upgrade is expensive relative to any added value unless you do alot of night driving.

Personally, I'd drop the following: - Light Design Package - Folding mirrors - Auto dimming mirrors - Park assist with camera for standard park assist - Speed limit indicator (sat nav does this) - Bose Consider swapping the Carbon trim for "Brushed Aluminium in anthracite", free option, but some people much prefer the carbon. . All that would save you a princely £2769. (Don't forget the first year road tax they don't include on the configurator ~£1600).

If you get a chance and decide they’re not for you, go for the GTS with the 18 ways, rather than put the 18 ways in the GT4. PDK isn’t available yet; so I was told. Would have to wait until Post January, and then you could be looking at a possible hard brexit surcharge (~£10k).

It’s interesting what’s important to one man isn’t important to another and when spec’ing mine (Oct build) I’ve gone for what I want/will make use of. So that meant Buckets, cruise (why such an expensive car doesn’t have as standard is a disgrace!), park sensor, LED headlights - live in the country and drive a lot at night. Leather dash (stock looks like a 90’s Ford Fiesta ) a few other wee bits and pieces meaning £83.5K odd which is More than enough in my head at least! Despite not planning tracking I Would have had Clubsport if it was sensible price but at near £3K its taking the proverbial and adding weight I don’t need. Personally don’t understand the black calliper thing as red on steels is a Porsche trademark and they look great, to my eye anyway. Only slight worry is the Autumn budget and a smash and grab By Sunak on “expensive toys”

Yep my OPC will only be getting 3 or 4 max. No one knows how long production will continue into next year. Personally I would go for a manual if you are offered one rather than be disappointed not getting a PDK.

POST 81Original post

PDK may sort out the long gearing issues, but manual boxes won’t be around for much longer, in the move to hybrid drivetrains and electric cars (imo). Enjoy three pedals while you can is my opinion.

POST 82Original post

Yep the other aspect is auto/semi auto boxes even as good as PDK invariably date quicker than manuals do and if the car is a long term keeper the PDK could go the same way as the woeful tiptronic in time.

Going to cancel GTS Boxster today and lock down GT4 but want to make sure it’s the right choice... As 911R says, you have to really want a GT car for road use as indeed I did. It's very much a heart over head choice unless you're a serious track goer. Worrying about buckets and speeed bumps means a GTS is probably more up your street, but the choice is yours of course. Another issue with the GT4 as a daily are the Cup2 tyres. I got caught in a thunderstorm and torrential rain in mine last night for a short while and it was like driving on the ice hill at PEC As someone said on here once that has stuck with me, buy the car for the type of driving you actually do not the type you'd like to do.

"Residuals on GT4 should be much better I guess?" don't make that the ruler of the car you want. only you know what you want, I am not voicing what I would buy as Porsche don't make it so prob won't buy any new. I thought my GT4 was a pain to daily, but I did it for a bit. 2nd hand I would like a white 4.0l GTS Boxster with older style folding buckets, but that's will be as rare as a rare thing to get. good shout on the cups above, as while you can use them in the rain in summer and slow down a bit, once below 5oc and it rains you will die :-)

POST 92Original post

Twinfan said: As 911R says, you have to really want a GT car for road use as indeed I did. Thanks for all your help with this. I was worried about speed bumps as have lots of my road and don’t want to scrape the bumper. Are the cup 2 tyres really that bad? This car will be mostly driven on road rather than be a track car.

This car will be mostly driven on road rather than be a track car. Speed bumps are a minor issue, a bigger issue are slopes e.g. driveways, petrol station approaches, multi storey car park ramps etc. The GT4 is low, with a long nose. Scrapes are inevitable on the underside of the nose and on the brake ducts, they're going to happen, but you run the risk of getting stuck if the slopes are steep. No such issues with a GTS. Cup2s are not all-round tyres, they're sunny days and light rain tyres. My car is weekend use/fun only and rarely goes out between late Nov and early Feb as the temperatures are too low. I would not recommend using Cup2s in winter or when there's a lot of standing water. You can swap them for PS4Ss which will be much better of course, but that's £1000 on tyres for a brand new car.

No - you cannot either purchase or renew an approved used warranty without the preceding service having been carried out at an OPC, even if this means repeating work already carried out by a third party. Their product, their rules. But it says that if you buy a secondhand Porsche outside of warranty, so long as you own it for more than 90 days before it is inspected (which costs £300) ... and it passes or any work is then done by them ... the extended warranty can be applied. In addition if a car is already under warranty when purchased then this can be extended. Are they suggesting that a purchaser should now check that an OPC did the last service for the extended warranty to be extended OR if not that the £300 111 point check to extend the warranty is no longer an option ? And would any remaining extended warranty post the non OPC service therefore be honoured ? Is the extended warranty aspect of Porsche now also breaking down ??

The car also has full PPF and darker than standard window tint. Looks really well - keep as is for sure. I added a matt black bonnet stripe, with all my stitching, belts and steering wheel 12 o'clock all red - matches the calipers. The yellow is cool, plus carbon always worries me - in case something happens £££ to change. Will get some photos up soon. Hope you driving through the winter - ice and snow permitting of course.

A friend of mine sent me a link to the Green GT4 at Redline yesterday. He’s planning on going over next week to see it. I told him to buy it unseen, but he won’t listen. I think it’s a very nice car. I love the colour. Number of owners wouldn’t put me off, buy on condition. I have a two owner car, the first was an OPC, then me with over 50K miles on it and another two owner car that has 6k miles on it in November, it turned over to 10k miles yesterday going to the local farm shop. They like to be driven. Other than tyres and routine maintenance mine have never needed anything.

The pics in the advert are of a car which I suspect must be around 40k miles. The owner uses it, I think, daily and has driven it lots including on ski holidays with a set of winter tyres. If it is that car, 100 miles is nonsense. If it isn't, the pics are of the wrong car. Edit to add, the car is at 46k miles accroding to the owners social media. The moment you move out of warranty you typically use an independent and although not cheap it's probably half the cost of OPC's so on balance not much in it. The GT4 is a special car not knocking the RS but I d actually prefer the non-RS as a DD but I m perhaps more sensitive than some to the volume level of the RS (especially on track). So to me the compression in prices makes some sense even if not on paper. I traded in my GT4 (similar clubsport spec) on a 992 GT3 and regretted it and now I ve realized that there s the magic of “and”. To be clear I’m not saying I regret the GT3, just should have kept the GT4.

POST 161Original post

GTRene said: can you explain what the difference was for you to mis it a bit? changes in feel/driving or different style now when driving? For a bit of context, I like to take my cars to the track 10-15 times a year and they were both stock (other than pads/discs/tyres/fluid) but set up by Chris at Centergravity... I think this last bit is fairly important. I simply found the GT4 to be more fun. Slower of course but I found it more engaging to drive... less mechanical grip but then much easier to rotate and explore the limits. The limits of the GT3 are ridiculously high with a proper geo and good semi slick tyres. Flying around Zandvoort in the GT3 is also a lot of fun but you always know in the back of your mind that a small mistake at those speeds could be pretty catastrophic. I guess one way to look at it is that despite quite a bit of track experience and lots of quality coaching, I'm not a good enough driver to safely explore the limits of the GT3 (and I think that's where the fun is at). I also miss the practicality of the GT4... packing for a track weekend for 2 in the GT3 involves squeezing soft bags through the gaps in the roll cage as my track gear and helmets fill most of the boot. Then there's looks... I personally prefer the look of the GT4 but I'm probably in the minority on that one. Finally reliability... and again, this is my own personal experience, the GT4 never missed a beat. Unfortunatley my GT3 developed a misfire (undriveable) and has been at my OPC for the past 9 weeks. Thankfully under warranty but sill a headache. In the past 9 months I've also cracked a front and a rear windscreen thanks to the lightweight glass (I've never managed to crack a rear window before so I'll blame the glass!). That could just be bad luck but the GT4 didn't feel so fragile. I do wish the GT4 had front lift, then it would be nearly perfect. Edited by twells99 on Wednesday 22 July 18:07

Its a long time since I've been on track, its important you have fun, your not there to win a race so to speak.

Maybe it s time to put my pair up for sale. Looking on Autotrader prices seem to have risen since 2025. December 2025 I was looking at a nearly purchased a GT4 for £74k. Same spec cars are now around £86k. Appreciate that seasonality has a massive impact but I guess rarity is also now kicking in more than ever. I'm no struggling to find a good one to my revised spec that isn't nigh on £90k+. Think I'll take another look round Xmas. I’ve noticed the same price wise. They will come down during winter but long term they are a pretty good bet. I/we have two 718 GT4s and a 981 GT4. Both 718s are pretty much daily drivers, the wife drives the manual and I have the PDK due to a snapped Achilles that has never fully healed. The 981 has less than 5k miles and is kept in storage other than for a yearly MOT and the odd show/drive. The 981 sounds better and has a lot going for it, but the 718 is an all round better car. I will get round to getting a set of OAP’s and a remap for my own 718 at some point in time. Is the GT4RS really worth an extra £50k over a standard GT4?

POST 164Original post

The fact that you keep the 981 in storage and use the 718s as daily’s says to me (and I would agree) is the 981 is the more special car (also rarer) something I have maintained for a long time.

POST 165Original post

GT4s were always going to be a sound buy as soon as the (lack of) replacement was announced. Porsche have abandoned the sub £100k sports car driver.

Seems like a well specced car close to your original budget. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2391620887765274/u...

I've driven a couple of manual 718 GT4s previously, but preferred the 981 for being worse. That won't make sense to many, but might do to you, as they are "worse" in an incredibly endearing way. I loved the old 981 GT4. It did everything I wanted, road or track, with aplomb, all on standard parts with a decent geo setup. Fabulous summer (and spring, and a fair bit of autumn) road car that was epic fun to drive on track too. I was buying the GT4 RS new, so the delta I had to find between old and new was more like £80k when I got it. Running in, and for the first couple of track days, not only did it not really feel worth the upcharge, but I wasn't sure I enjoyed it quite as much as I had the old GT4 in many ways. A truly special car for sure, but I just couldn't bond with it easily at first. But with perseverance, a bit of suspension upgrade work, and plenty of track time (much of it with full-day tuition), I'm fully converted to loving the GT4 RS. Depending on what you're using it for, it probably is worth £50k over a 718 GT4. If you want a daily that you can use for a bit of spirited weekend driving on the road, I'd say GT4 every time. But if you want something that's fun on the road, and amazing fun on the track once you've got it figured out and tweaked, it's definitely worth more. Whether it's worth £50k more probably depends on how easily you can afford £50k. The GT4 is a lot more bang per buck, but the RS is just so much quicker, and with a little work, just as confidence inspiring to drive on track. I'd guess for many people, the "standard" GT4 is actually a much more suitable car, and for a whole lot less money. If I could only have one Porsche for daily commute, weekend fun, and track days, I'd be looking for the best 981 GT4 I could find, or failing that a manual 718 GT4. Liam

It's home! Remarkably clean car. I don't know how the previous owner put 5k miles on it without even putting any wear on the bucket seat bolsters. Everything you can see (including OAPs and suspension bits) look brand new. Supposedly never driven in the rain... which I usually take with a grain of salt but in this case it might actually be true! Nice colour contrast with the GT3

Liam This is really very useful and a great way to sum up. I have owned my 981GT4 for nearly a year and after a ride at Blyton in a GT4RS I have been wanting one (or a SRS) since. Looks like we have sold our house so a larger mortgage will put pay to that but TBH the GT4 is everything I want in a car so I am more than happy to keep it (for now). The strong values for the model also helps.

Not much on the market at the moment, or at least very little with interesting spec.

I'm starting to wonder whether it's time to sell mine. I've only managed 4k miles in 3 years (from new) and I've got my eyes on other cars - it's only done a couple of hundred miles this year. I think (hope) I'm getting close to getting my money back on it, August 2023 car with almost every option bar ceramics. So buckets, CS, PDK, LED's, interior carbon etc. I think the final invoice was just over £100k, I'm wondering how far into the £90's I could get on SOR with my local OPC - I've just renewed the warranty for 2 years and it's PPF'd so needs for nothing. The only thing nagging at me is that I specc'd it from new and it's been properly looked after, running in service and the lot. They're never making another one and if I ever came to regret selling it, it's quite literally irreplaceable.

From an OPC? No where near £90k. As I’m looking I’ve been in touch with a few sellers, one car (literally every option including PDK, ceramics, Clubsport and PTS) offered him cap clean (which was in the sixties) and he had to fight to get a best offer of £80k. Car had under 10k miles. You’d be better off writing a quick advert and seeing if you get lucky with a cash buyer like me waiting in the wings

Interesting - just had a look what’s out there again, there are more on the market now than last time I looked. Sub 10k 2023 Clubsport’s seem to still be just into the £90’s, so I guess a good trade bid would be around £80k as you say. The cheapest RS is still £125k, so quite some gap. I’ll probably SORN it for winter and stick it into storage then see what next year brings, going by the latest prices I’ve missed the boat on adding another Ferrari to the collection for the time being!

I am on the same boat - late 2023 718 GT4 with Clubsport. We drive all year round, did 4k in a year and has 5200 miles as it sits. Belfast OPC offered me 80K for it, they have buyers lined for low mileage mint GT4's. What else is out there, that isn't mad money!!!! Edited by Simon-Blue on Sunday 13th September 18:51

I guess everyone’s different but from most of the people selling I’ve spoke to this time (I was also looking a year and a half or so ago) seem to want to return to the convenience of four seats. Usually some sort of M2/3/4. I think the GT4 attracts a younger audience than the 911 GT3. I was surprised just how many guys I spoke to who were selling to fund their first house!

I’ve had a new May 2022 718 GT4 and a new May 2023 M3 competition, in my opinion the M3 is a more enjoyable car to drive, obviously far more practical, faster, but obviously doesn’t handle and stop as well. Oddly my GT4 has been resold 3 times, since I sold it. Twice by JCT and most recently by Redline, and when it was last advertised it still had fairly low miles on it so each new owner barely used it. The only thing which would tempt me back into 718 Cayman ownership is a high spec / low owner / low miles GT4 RS in Shark Blue.

POST 181Original post

I’d like an RS but I can’t square taking something that value on track without an iron clad insurance (which I can’t get at the ring). £70k to £80k is my theoretical risk zone which a GT4 neatly falls into.

I have had my GT4 20 months and counting, previous I swapped cars every 12 months due to wanting something different. But the GT4 is the first car I can't imagine selling. I looked at 4rs ferrari 488 (before price rise) and a mclaren 720s.I have now decided the GT4 has to stay and added a 1997 aston martin BD7 to my garage. The GT4s are only going to increase in price in my eyes.
