Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

it's really dark now and I got surprised by some pedestrians crossing the road last night, didn't help they were in dark clothes but I didn't see them until I hit the high beams and then I was surprised how invisible there were on low beams.
So.. it's cold and wet out there and dark
So I am using the lights more .... which leads me to think that my headlights are not really adjusted right as when I hit the high beams.... yeah I expect the whole road to light up but it doesn't do that.
Hmmm
So how do I figure out if my lights are properly adjusted? something about pointing them at the garage door and measuring heights?
how about some higher watt stuff in the headlights? or is that even possible in a 997?
are your lights self leveling or do you have the thumb-wheel adjustment ? I can remember when "garages" used to have a headlight aiming board.....

It surprises me a modern Porsche doesn't light the whole road up???
I have high output globes in all my P cars and drive them onto a quiet dark road and adjust them manually. It's a black art. But I have absolutely no idea how you'd do it on a modern car, I assumed they were set up perfectly at the factory.
Yeah surprised me too that I didn't get more light output... me thinks those fancy 997 sloping headlight look good but....
I'll have to crack out the manual and look at adjustments. it's really dark now and I got surprised by some pedestrians crossing the road last night, didn't help they were in dark clothes but I didn't see them until I hit the high beams and then I was surprised how invisible there were on low beams.
and that's with the driving lights on too !
And why is that? Because in the 997 they point to the ground and only light up 5 meters in front of the nose.
And hey I use it during Hazardous weather conditions ... i.e. dark.
Or... they are Daytime running lights.
Fog light gestapo in your neck of woods?
Modern BMW/AUDI/MB running lights are bedazzling , yet legal?
The 928 lamps can be adjusted with the vacuum operated knob.
So not only adjustable for load (passengers , bullion in the boot) but when you floor it (most days) you twiddle the knob clockwise and the lights point down (and vice versa , so the pedestrian is lit up). The Germans think of everything!
Apparently those daytime running light contribute to road safety:

I find them too bright too ... maybe they are not so bad when you are sitting high up in an SUV, but when you are low to the ground they are bright and dazzling.
If I had gotten a 997 with Bi-Xenon lights then they would be auto adjusting... unfortunately I don't so it's lift the front boot carpet and adjust time, at least it looks like I get a nice thumb wheel, and I don't need a screwdriver.
I suspect any safety benefit of the daytime nights ("Volvo lights") is the fact they signify there is actually a vehicle (colour camouflaged by the grey asphalt or sky) actually about to arrive!.
And being in a slightly grumpy mode , many of the drivers of such vehicles are anxious and aggressive/ inconsiderate types. Just in my experience, I would never generalise
I can even waggle my headlights to signify friendship.
Hmm, I was wrong, no nice thumb screw, but a hole to stick an Allen key into,
Must get along to adjusting lights as ... when I drove home I noticed my headlights didn't even light up the number plate of the car in front, they are that low atm
I've adjusted them, and they are better....
but then I drove my Subaru Liberty in the dark (first time in a while) and I realise my headlight are terrible.
Not bright enough and very yellow....
Probably been in the car since 2005 .. perhaps they are just old and useless?
daytime running lights and fog lights are two separate things. I specifically hate Hyundai Excel drivers who turn their rear fog light on, it's brighter than a brake light!
is this different to your manual?

that's what I have in my manual and car, I have no probs with the adjustment now, I've got them where I want them.
Just that the bulbs themselves are weak and yellow... maybe compared to the current trend of ultra white headlight bulbs.
