Reported cause
There’s some speculation on other Porsche-focused forums that the current small number of allocations is due to general supply chain disruption, and the scramble to replace cars lost when the Felicity Ace sank, and that supply will increase significantly in ‘23 and ‘24.

My GT3RS was on steels and I fitted ST's which were fab (bought a used set and found the spacers to make them fit from JCR though I believe that Suspension Secrets can also help).

Have to agree an exceptionally well sorted package in the MR, with better damping than my car (still on standard shocks for now, but geo, springs and ride height changed).

So I would guess the cost to change will need to be maintained to an extent otherwise the regularly cooking GT4 will start to look quite expensive if these 4RS 'big discounts' bring them much lower beyond where they are today.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Wondered what’s the latest people are hearing about the 4RS, how long they are going to be built for, likely numbers etc. Be nice to have a chance of one late on in the build run maybe, once the initial talk dies down?
One per dealer at the moment, in the UK…. And it looks like that allocation will needs to have taken all the extras..
WP, PTS and the watch. Early overs will be ridiculous. Hence why those that have allocations are being silent… as has been said, it will be easy to identify the flippers… but not sure anything can be done about it, as they probably get flipper back to OPC for those guys anyway.
I’ve heard that it will be easier to get the not yet announced 992 3RS than it will be to get a 4RS.
UK is really is a silly situation with these GT cars in particular. Continental Europe is different situation although still limited for this run.
Press reviews will be out towards the end of Feb. Estoril is the location I understand.

What premium are we expecting on first advertised car……£80k?
£200K.
wont sell, but thats what the Amari types will chance their arm at.

I’d say it will be more like £230k to £250k well specified
yep I'd agree 100%
Said early last year there would only be 1 max 2 per OPC.
£295k flipped will suitably reflect the rarity.
Whilst 'only' a Cayman, more desirable and alot rarer than the first flipped 992 GT3s some of which drew approaching £300k.

oh I was meaning on top, so lets say its £150 for the car, it'll be 200+ on top as a flipper premium, so i reckon they will list at £350K+

Nice work if you can get it!!
How much are they with Weissach Pack, PTS and the upgraded Magnesium Wheels?

I think closer to £200k so all in, with the flipper premium, £400k

Depends if you want a 'manuel' box.
Also GT4 RS will no doubt be too hardcore for many for road use.
Road use? i can't imagine them seeing any tarmac other than the distance from the delivery trailer to the collectors showroom.

More likely straight back to the supplying OPC's showroom on SOR and THEN on the delivery truck to the collector's showroom. The OPC's flippers are going to piss themselves with excitement if they get an allocation.
Just been talking to someone who is interested in my exhaust, he has a friend who works for Porsche in Stuttgart and they are saying the 4RS is the best GT car to date.In my opinion , it will be a better road car being mid engined.

An early mule of the 4RS was spotted by a prominent Rennlister as few years back to before the release of the 718 GT4.. so would have been the 981 mule that AP referenced here...
psst wanna know how porsche cayman gt4 rs came about
, and his opinion was that is was going to the best thing out of Weissach, better thad than GT2 RS, 935 at were also just launched or about to launch at the time.

Well I hope we get to find out how good it is in all scenarios, but by the way it is sounding, they are going to be as rare as hens teeth and prob will go into storage and unused which will be such a shame.
Once they see the prices north of £500K are being asked, maybe (as discussed above) they could hit £800K+, then I doubt these owners will be thrashing them anymore.

I don’t mean 230k to 250k overs mind, I mean selling flipped price of earth cars.
Last time I asked my opc they confirmed only one build slot to date which is allocated.

i think once the 911 fans realise this is as good as it gets and far surpasses its big brother Gt3, then it will be Thunderdome on used prices and they'll rocket way higher than expected.
There is an awful lot that can be done with a humble 981 GT4 ...
Porsche aren't the only people who can make a GT4RS ... and if it's pace on track that proves the point, there's a lot of fun to be had in the learning !
Otherwise, what will we do when the driverless GT4 is faster that the fastest human in a GT4RS ?
Let's face it, any GT4 is already too fast for most roads ...
I find talk of the unobtanium so tedious ... sorry !

I have little doubt that the 4RS will be more fun to drive on road than the GT3, but doubt that it will be as fast on track, the GT3 has to much tech on it. It will be a shame if used car do come onto the market with so few cars around. I know for sure that the ones that I know that are getting one will be tracking their cars, one has already ordered spare set of none Mag wheels for his WP car.

you better believe it
Well, that is one of what i expect to be many selling points that woo the 911 fans. Once the Carfections and the like start doing their reviews i feel the reviews will be that the sister has punched her big brother for six.
But it's no good for ice because you can't see through the rear window ??
Just joking.
It sounds great ... but you don't need a GT4RS to do that ;-)
Tyres and studs are the most important decision ...
I was promised a GT4RS, as long as I let them have my 992GT3 back on a SOR. I am getting their second car, which I am told and understand that they will get no more at all, and many Porsche dealers will only get 1(the smaller ones). Apparently this is due to all the supply chain problems, boats carrying Porsches(and Lambo's) sinking, and the shortage of chips. We will see, but whatever, the road tests seem to confirm that the GT4RS is unbelievably good, with, they say, one of the best sounding engines ever!
I think some of you are getting carried away with the premium the car will carry, when mine arrives it certainly will be driven and no plans on a sale!
I think its going to be the noise that makes the car, yes it appears to be quick around a track but every review centres around the sound in the cabin.
I’ve been trying to find some Cup2 R tyres for it just for fun, and cannot find any in 295/30, even though the lap of Nurburgring was apparently set on them, does this suggest Porsche fitted 305’s for the ring?

100%, what you and TDT have done to your GT4s really makes them pretty special, and you could do loads more and it would still cost of half the cost of a flipped RS, but it won't be half the fun. Hope your well Chris.

Production issues aside, you can walk into a Porsche showroom and order a cooking model. You can’t order the hot stuff.
Exactly the same as his point on the fezzers.
ChrisW. said:

The limited numbers Ferrari 'specials' allocations are decided by Ferrari themselves and if one is flipped then said offender gets blacklisted for all future 'specials'. Its a very fair system and takes the pressure off the dealer DPs.
Unfortunately OPCs get to decide on Porsche GT products and they invariable get allocated to their favourite 'flippers' who can be trusted to sell them on SOR through the same OPC after a few months or less of custodianship.

The one major difference is that Ferrari genuinely hate flippers whereas OPCs only pretend to !

Indeed and I can’t say I blame people who do TBH. This is a pure issue of Porsche supply/demand/price ratio and it seems Porsche do it on purpose which is poor show. I don’t suppose it will last much longer once there are no ICE models left as I just can’t see people getting g as excited…

I'm well thanks, but changing direction.
I bought a 944 Turbo Cup some time ago and having sorted out a few teething issues I intend to run this for track days in place of the GT4. There was an article recently in the Porsche Post on my development of the car.
How are you getting along with your Radical ? That was an experience
!
How come the swap Chris? I'd of loved your GT4 as it is but I'm going to wait a while before I have another toy.
I sold the Radical last year, after Covid ment I couldn't really use it for a year, and then RMA banned Radicals, so have Silverstone, I got an offer for what I paid for it 2 years prior and it needed an engine re-build so thought let it go, especially when we found out our first child was on the way. I brought a MK3 TTRS as a practical daily but hated it and 2 days before my Daughter was born I traded it in before for 981 Cayman GTS Manual with all the right bits, little did I know I wouldn't really use it. So after 8 months I sold it 2 weeks ago haha. For now I run a private Sim racing group with some very quick real world racers and that keeps me ticking!
I keep saying to TDT that I will pop down to a track day at some point but just busy these days, I may rent a Radical from my friend and do a day at Donnington in the summer, be good to catch up with you guys.

I think it was on the Intercooler they made the point that this is a different RS from any recent RS. Other recent RS's had an evolution of the engine in the cars they were based with say a 5 to 10% increase in power (4.0 RS might be the exception but still with an evolution of the engine in the GT3).
The GT4 RS essence's is its engine IMHO. 25% ish more powerful than the GT4 a totally different engine to the base car with I think the real standout being the indiction system which it seems really dominates the cockpit.
I think it's hard/impossible with any kind of sensible budget to take a GT4 and get it close to a a GT4 RS.

I think it's hard/impossible with any kind of sensible budget to take a GT4 and get it close to a a GT4 RS.
The point is it doesn't have to be close to the RS, but a modified GT4 981 or even a 718 with some tweaks is a fantastic car, comparing the price point of a flipped GT4 RS (what we all think that might be).

100%, what you and TDT have done to your GT4s really makes them pretty special, and you could do loads more and it would still cost of half the cost of a flipped RS, but it won't be half the fun. Hope your well Chris.

It depends how you define fun I suppose….judging by the amount people are willing to pay for JCR or Akra exhaust systems for a lot of people part of the fun is about how the car sounds. Yes you can fettle a GT4 to be a mighty capable car but it’s never going to have that engine sat right behind your head….that’s why people think it’s a £250k car. If it had a tweaked version of the standard engine the premiums would be nothing like what is being speculated.

Agree sound is a massive part of the fun. But the GT4 engine does sit right behind you though, onc3 you fettle with that is pretty loud. Not sure the RS will sound better than TDT's 981 GT4.

I don't think the GT4 RS will sound as good as TDT's GT4 from outside the car. From what I've read/heard the RS is extremely loud inside due to the position of the intakes.
I've just realised that I've broken my own rule on wasting my breath talking about a car which is unobtainable for genuine enthusiasts.!

There’s some speculation on other Porsche-focused forums that the current small number of allocations is due to general supply chain disruption, and the scramble to replace cars lost when the Felicity Ace sank, and that supply will increase significantly in ‘23 and ‘24.

From the historic “hater” of Porsches this is an excellent and funny review. Pity they aren’t going to churn out 750 for the UK market…now I am off to my lowly 981 to tell it that I still love it but it might need a few more tweaks….

He said the exact same thing about the GT4 and the order book is closed on that dispute PH forum folk wanting to order one….so go figure.
If you really think everyone that wants a GT4RS will get one then I admire your optimism.

well exactly he is not going to say otherwise, thats why its meaningless as, to your first point, not "everyone who wants one" lives in Germany!! For crying out loud, i've heard it all now!
If there is going to be available slots then give them to current gt4 owners. The dealers will get 2 sales for the price of one!

Certainly helps having a GT car to pass back to the dealer. Also, I’d venture to say it’s fair enough selling the likes of the GT4RS to guys who have bought a GT car before. But be even better if they sold them to people who actually use there cars as well rather than leaving them lying under a cover.
Fin, I did 300 miles the weekend, is that enough?
Also by giving to current gt4 owners it shows they are committed to those who like the platform. I’ve had cayman since 2007! Non of that 911 4x4 malarkey for me

My guess is it’s owned by a opc and being sold on buy Ashgood on a profit split. Opc will make a greater margin this way as well as its at overs.

If you want to see how it has been treated by the press, watch Harry’s Garage review of this car. He was loaned it just after EVO had used it for their annual Car of the Year test, and he commented on the poor condition of it, highlighting the cracked rear screen and stone chips.

Not under 150 yet, it's coming.
Not far away, but some of those on the market are not really that much over list, if you were to spec a new car the same today, with all the price increases since launch.
I think there will be plenty of choice going forward, with over 20 on used approved today… and more continuing to arrive.

Yup.
I've skin in the game so to speak, and would like values to hold. They probably will hold nominally - new prices of stuff constantly on the up and fewer comparable options.
Longer term, will I have a garage full of - effectively - scrap which I can't drive anywhere unless I pay grand for a tank of super taxed bio fuel? I tend to put that thought to the back of my mind tbh. and just enjoy.
They are selling slowly but massive deals to be had. I picked up my 2nd 4RS in December of 2025. Brand new car with every must have option and 20K off list. The deal was done on 20th December which helped, but none the less do not believe what dealers are telling you. They will drop their pants to shift stock.
The best deals I saw with low pre-reg mileage were on high spec cars including magnesium wheels (which I like) at around £30k under new list. But new is new !

You done amazingly well to get it for £20k off list. I was looking a couple of months ago when there were a lot more for sale and saw a handful of pre-reg ones for between £145-155k which I am guessing is around £10k under list. They all seem to have been sold now though, and given production stopped a good few months ago and so few cars are available right now we may see some of these 'hidden' ones come out.

Will be interesting to see your impressions of it once you can drive it.
Here is mine.
Took delivery a week or so ago. Delivered by lorry and I ve not driven it yet. I m going to wait until roads and weather improve. It s hard going!
I m super happy with spec, fairly basic, but just right for me. Looked even better than I expected when it got back from full ppf at topaz. As I said before I d have probably added ccbs if I had specced it.
Gentian, silver wheels, front lift, extended leather with arctic grey, chrono, Bose, black callipers, LEDs.
About 12% off list.

Thanks, it s very similar to the Porsche press release video, which I did note was quite cleverly used in the Sutcliffe review for example.

Thanks for the advice on ccb alternatives. I m due I ll make that upgrade at some point.
Committed to ClassicFX bolsters protectors yesterday.
I d quite like a silver set of mags
I’m interested how it’s going to compare to my Exige 420 which sits alongside it. Exige still has quite a bit more power to weight.

I think the 4RS will beat the Exige on noise; quality and quantity.
As for PCCB alternatives, only fly in ointment is that some OPC's will be funny (regarding warranty) if you leave them on the car when it's in for service. Others here may know/advise better.

Just seen this one pop up at RPM,

not sure about the colour of the wheels but seems like a great spec otherwise. OPC are now down to 6 cars, but interestingly they seem to have plenty of Spider RS's despite them being supposedly the rarer car of the two if I am not mistaken.

GT4 - GT4RS are different animals.
I went from a 718GT4 to a 4RS, and other than looking at the same dash, it's just completely different all round, the induction noise is literally the first thing that hits you.
Previously had an S2 Exige S, and I can see the parallels between the two.
That little league table to me would look like this
GT4RS
718 GT4
410 Exige
981 GT4
Lots of cars you could fit in that gap the 981 is not a great car in my opinion. People spooge over it cause it doesn't have OPFs and it's rarer than the 718 but the steering kills it. Pretty dull really and no PDK available there's little point when the 718s are not that much more expensive. Alpine A110 can go in that gap quite nicely and the Emira.
The regular 718 GT4 is a lot better than it seems to get credit for I would say it's the best all round car I've ever driven. The RS needs the DSC controller to tame it for the road but the sort box/power increase and intake noise makes it an easy 1st place. I've stopped looking at cars since I bought mine. I've had a few of the other contenders and ticked some boxes but the RS there's a lot of car left to explore I feel and I've had it over a year.

My GT3RS was on steels and I fitted ST's which were fab (bought a used set and found the spacers to make them fit from JCR though I believe that Suspension Secrets can also help). Surface Transform would not ...
OPC York were quite relaxed about putting an extended warranty on the car but would have queried any braking issues given the non-standard aspect of this ... of course for anything serious I could just re-fit the steels !!

Different strokes... I think the 981 GT4 was the one I've loved most so far. Aside from the slightly thrown together feel of it that I loved, and lousy steering feel out of the box that I didn't, it was transformed by a proper geo setup without changing a single original part. I didn't mind the hole in the torque curve as I was generally under it on the road, and always above it on track. The manual 'box was an absolute peach, and I really didn't mind the heavier clutch and more agricultural driving experience on the road than a 982 GT4. It just added to the event of taking it out for a drive. On the track, all that ceased to matter. I knew I was trying harder than 982 GT4s to keep up, but that just added to the fun.
GT4 RS as it turned up was surprisingly better on the road, but while much quicker on track, it needed a load of parts and work before it was anything like as user friendly for me. In fairness, more committed and confident track drivers can make them work on all standard parts. You really do need to get them by the scruff of the neck to get them turned in, and be ready to catch them if you lose rear grip on the way out of corners. They've made them very safe for ordinary civilians on the road, and really good for experienced track drivers. I'm somewhere between the two of those, and while probably closer to the latter, painfully aware I'm driving a relatively fast and expensive track car uninsured.
Geo helped, but with front lift, just couldn't get the front ride height down anything like low and pointy enough, and the dampers really couldn't cope with the rear spring rate, so rebound was not properly controlled. I've gone with a Suspension Secrets kinematics pack (fitted in 2 stages to get a feel for what each did), and for me, that's a more complete solution than a DSC controller. Each to their own. I'm aiming to end up with some Ohlins dampers later this year, but for now the reduced rear spring rate has the rear hopping and corner exit snap oversteer under control.
I don't know if I appreciated the simplicity of life the 981 GT4 offered enough. I bought it as a 3-season daily that I could do a couple of track days a year in. Ended up owning it for 6 years, spending very little on it aside from overheated or worn out Cup 2 tyres, warranty, servicing at correct intervals, and really just enjoying it on a daily basis most of the time. Totally characterful, totally fun, one of the best cars I ever owned.
Is the GT4 RS objectively better? Yes, but it has needed work for me to enjoy it as much on track. Is the gap you show between those cars justifiable? I've never driven an Exige. However I have to point out the cost gap between the outgoing 981 GT4 and incoming GT4 RS was £84k, and more like £90k once I'd got the GT4 RS to handle anything like as well (for me) on track. It's probably more like £60-70k now. One can't go backwards with cars without being disappointed, but I'd take a 981 GT4 ahead of a 982 every time, then and now.

Yeah I find the whole 981/982 thing baffling I've driven multiple 981s so its not that "oh you drove one with a poor setup" thing I actually drove a fully Manthey kitted out centre gravity car that felt planted but still the steering is very dull on them. The 718 out of the box is a near perfect all round car.

The 718 just felt a bit dead to me for some reason - compared to the 981 GT4 as well - much much preferred the 981. Still miss it tbh. Whilst 718 had nothing wrong with it a sorted engine it just lost the passion/fun factor. Ditto spyder.

People were just waiting for them to drop to their real worth and then they were buying them, I was going to buy one when they dropped down but went for a 997 RS instead, I was tempted to get a 4RS though, it's a lot of fun for the money.
The big thing to watch is what will they sell for when the owners that bought them at £120-130k get bored and all want to move them on around the same time. I think they'll be a hard car to sell and as the stock piles up I can see big discounts, that's when I'll buy one.
Discount (on new cars - now out of production) ≠ Depreciation (already used cars)... They are not the same thing.

Looking at cars for sale I can see that the 718 Porsche GT4's with decent specs/miles seem to have settled between £70-90k with the 981 GT4 propping up prices, and the oldest 718 around 7 years old now so any further depreciation I am guessing will be very slow. When you say stock piling up and big discounts on GT4RS, where do you think they will settle in comparison?
Looking at the GT3>GT3 RS there is usually a £30-50k+ uplift to switch to the RS, with the GT4 >GT4RS the leap in car is bigger I would guess due to the 9k rpm cup engine being in the RS ontop of all the other differences. So I would guess the cost to change will need to be maintained to an extent otherwise the regularly cooking GT4 will start to look quite expensive if these 4RS 'big discounts' bring them much lower beyond where they are today.

It's hard to call because it's not happened for many years and even then it's not apples with apples, if you go back to the days when the 964RS was impossible to sell and they were giving them to employees as company vehicles then you'd have thought they'd nose dive when they came to be sold on, but as we saw weird things can and do happen.
At the moment (or in recent times) there was a surplus of stock of the 4RS, so they dropped to a price where it was attractive enough and now it seems like they're being gradually fed into the market. In 2-3 years when traditionally people would trade them in for the newest thing there might not be a newest thing, or there might be greatly increased demand because there isn't much else like it to buy new in the Porsche range.
We're also seeing brand new GT3s sitting on showroom floors, which is something not seen for a while either, so it's going to be hard to predict what the future holds because this hasn't happened in this way before.
Who knows, there are a range of variables that are unusual and a lack of demand now might not translate into a lack of demand in the future. The only thing that seems constant is scarcity drives up prices, so a 991.2 Touring made in low numbers will sell for good money, I've seen them at £200k when you can buy a 992.1 Touring for £150k.
So it's anyones guess, if Porsche don't make anything interesting for a few years then it might create demand on the previous generations.
If they do start to produce interesting alternatives then the large amount of 4RS's that might come to market at the same time could push prices lower than they normally would and they might be difficult to move on, just like the above example, there were a lot of 992.1 Tourings bought to market and so the price is low compared to the 991.2 Touring.

That all sounds very plausible ... regarding the 964RS I think the resurrection of this was synchronous with the rise of the trackday ... so many were used for this and whilst money was spent to keep them running well, values rose to make it a no cost exercise. Now the Porsche market is much larger and their halo has survived with ever increasing prices ... due to the collector market.
The challenge now is not the number of 964RS ... it's the total number of GT cars that have flooded the trackday / serious road / collector market, and Porsche are now losing ground.
I popped into OPC Leeds a couple of days ago and asked about a GT3 Touring ... I was told that for me to have any chance there would need to be an existing relationship. And it's no longer as-if a GT3 Touring at £200k is the best thing since sliced bread ... there are many other options as we are seeing particularly in the lightly used market. My reply was that I had owned around 33 Porsche's and bought six new form them but had been told in 2017 that I wasn't a good enough customer to change my 981 GT4 for a new 718 GT4 and that those things can't just be un-said ... and that was the end of the conversation. I am just one of many ...
So, we know that the investor / collector market has deserted Porsche because they will all lose money ... the smart guys and gals have picked up the GT4RS and SRS at list -£30k ... which is some hedge. So what comes next ??
For all the drivers depreciation is a fair exchange, for everybody else they are out of the market. Hence why should there not be massive oversupply ?
After all, the cost of the extended warranty with the new servicing requirements and cost is not insubstantial, OPC's continue to build palaces to past times for which they must charge, and to my eye the market is going south.
Now tell me that this wrong ... and why ?

I'm actually surprised they're still pushing that "build a relationship" stuff, I think I'd have laughed in his face.
The market is dead, a low mileage 992 GT3 Touring can be had for well under list now.
It had such a headwind that not everyone has noticed or accepted it, but the future is not looking good for Porsche.
I think the restomod thing is dying as well, there seem to be a lot of very low mileage restomods for sale.
I think it's unlikely that I'll ever buy a new 911 again, I have the ones I want and nothing else really tempts me, I may buy a SRS if the price drops to something that's too tempting, but I don't think I'll ever leave an OPC with a new Porsche again.
That's how I feel.
I was talking to a friend who has just bought a 2000 mile SRS ... white, Weissach, PCCB's and carbon bucket seats plus ... £122k. Lovely.
But I do like the look of the Boxter 4.0 25 ... there was a manual 7000 mile car with FSH, warranty, PCCB's ... a one owner car at £67k.
Nicely tarted, silver with a black interior and the gold 25 trimmings ...

For me I've never got over how good the S2 is. Not as fast but sitting above all those cars would be the S2 Exige with ohlins and an LSD. True poetry for road driving. It would need a separate thread to fully explain just how good that car is.

I thought I could be a Exige mk2 man, so test drove a 220s I believe it was?
But found it less enjoyable then a tuned Elise S1 and or Elise S2 111R, but I guess on track the Exige shows it potential more.
I guess that why I look sometimes a Elise S1 with Honda and supercharger

Now the geo is sorted, trailing the brake really deep. Before the geo was set up, less so, because I was much less sure of the car.
If I were a more confident/competent track driver I know I could have got it to turn in much better on standard settings, but I don't see any downside to getting a car set up so I can drive it quickly and confidently.

A wise yorkshireman once told me this and I did listen and in all honesty If I was going for a spirited drive over the moors with the lads, the S2 Exige would be the first set of keys I would pick up. Have only driven one s3 komotech Exige 460 and that did nothing for me, compared to the s2 it felt twitchy/ crashy over bumps and lardy . It’s a shame as it seemed the obvious step forward as they have a great soundtrack and it would be the noise of the 4cylinder that would stop me having another S2 that and the fact of me getting in and out of a lotus is like having a work out these days .

Interesting, I found the opposite tbh. I ran an S2 Exige 260 for 8 years inc 2 years as my daily - summer and winter. I did keep it after I bought my S3 410 Exige but found I rarely used it - preferring the 410, eventually sold the S2 as space became trickier to store it. Four years on, still not regretting it!
I ran a 964 alongside an S2 Elise SC on Ohlins. Sold the 964.
I ran a 981 GT4 alongside the S2 Elise SC. Sold the GT4.
I ran an S3 Exige 430 Cup alongside the S2 Elise SC. Sold the 430 Cup.
Still have the S2 Elise SC alongside a Caterham 620R for more extreme track fun.

looks like a few of us have walked a similar path, I did 20 years with Caterhams road/race/track and sort of grew out of them after a near miss on the road with a large truck just not seeing me.
I bought a 981 Spyder back in 2016 but just couldn't get excited over it all , I then built a k24 supercharged Elise S1 which was an absolute hoot, kept if for 7 years, swapped to an S3 Elise 300bhp which surprisingly I really enjoyed. Replaced with the S2 Exige which I thought was the sweet spot and one of the best road cars I have ever driven .
I built a k20 Honda Caterham in an attempt to reignite my love for a 7 and did a few track days but think once that ship sails it's not heading back, lost interest quickly and sold it.
Currently am on with an RS 964 recreation which I am really enjoying, I am off out on Sunday and plan on taxing the 964 and the Spyder RS and although it shouldn't be, It will be a tough decision on which keys I pick up and suspect it will be the older car that ends up going out.

An S2 platform Lotus is missing from so many people's car histories I weep for them as that is the benchmark certainly when it comes to road cars. You could argue the S1 but not getting roasted alive by heat soak in Summer and the slightly easier entry/egress and more powerful engine options just edge the S2 for me. None servo brakes are a thing of joy though robbed from us on the Toyota cars!

never owned one but did testdrive a few examples in different tuning stages as well.
I like the S1 because cute and light, but yeah the S2 is better and I guess it can handle more power better, its a bit more grown up, sometimes that can be a bad thing (loosing a bit connection/nimbleness) but not sure with the Elise.
I would like some day a Elise with at least 1hp per 2kg empty car weight, so in a S1 thats a bit easier to get, although a early S2 can also be light... but yeah, I guess a S2 since Toyota 111R is a good car/base to get it going.
I never drove a S3 though, I do like the looks of those, specially the later ones with open gear mechanism look, but those are also heavier, ooooh all the choices
S2 Exige was one of the...
I have to pick my phrase correctly but I can't ever say anything better than crapest cars I ever owned.
It wasn't so much the reliability (which wasn't great but was better than some may have expected), it was just not a great handling car. Stiff, grippy tyres, no PAS, short wheel base...
I reckon, in fact I know I spun that car more than any other car i've owned. Of all the mid engined cars I've driven it was the worst. I'm sure you can get them in a window where they're excellent at one certain thing but for my (at the time) only car-daily, ring tool, track car etc.
I hated it. Was a bloody cool little thing though but a 987 Boxster was a revelation after it.

How did you break an S2 Exige? Would be interested to know what reliability issues were assuming this is when the cars were newer too? They don't really break very much even at 15-20 years old.
My comments on the exige all refer to road driving too they aren't amazing out of the box for track. The suspension is way too soft. Drive train is a bit flaky too the v6 would be a better option for a track car. They are also not that quick by modern standards.

I got to drive the PEC GT4 RS MR for an hour last year. It handles and feels very much like my own (lightly modified) GT4 RS. Front end is planted and confidence inspiring, and plenty of feedback and control when getting back on the power. Have to agree an exceptionally well sorted package in the MR, with better damping than my car (still on standard shocks for now, but geo, springs and ride height changed). My old 981 GT4 was a similar experience with all standard parts and a full Suspension Secrets setup. I could drive it as hard as I was able, and then a bit harder, without feeling out of control.
I dream of being an average driver, let alone very average. But I have sufficient club kart racing and car track day experience to put my humble abilities to their best use, and to know my limitations. @Digga, could not agree with you more. The Manthey kitted 4RS makes an exceptionally good package sublime. I'd love to try it on a full size race track, but fear it might lead me to part with too much money!

FWIW I am a very average driver. My 15 minutes in a GT4 RS MR at PEC Silverstone were some of the most fun laps I've ever done in any car, ever. I have never driven a car, barring maybe the Mk1 Elise at Oulton, which so encourages you to take it by the scruff and hurl it into corners. The mix of power, control and precision was awe inspiring.

It’s amusing, because the talk of Elise’s is apt; there was something akin to my first ever drive of an S1 at Oulton in the immediate communication and capability of the 4 RS MR. A pure joy machine.
I've been enjoying reading this topic with all the positive chat about the Elise/Exige. I've had a few Lotus, including an S2 Exige with proper dampers and setup and it's the most fun car I have ever owned. It did 30 plus track days over years and never ever let me down. My friends told me not to sell it when I did and I regret it to this day. It was replaced with a Exige 410, which was very short lived for various reasons and ultimately a new 718 GT4 sits in its place. I got to spec from new and enjoy the whole experience and it's fantastic, but it just doesn't give me that same feeling.
Oh and to keep this mildly on topic I suspect a 4RS would give me that feeling. I just can't justify the £££ for a toy!!!

Looks like many are snapping up whats left of the 4RS at dealers so the extra £££ for one might be more than it was a few months or a year or so ago. Just checked the OPC website and only 4 for sale which must be the lowest its been for a long while. The Gentian Blue one is lovely but can't understand how someone specs a car so highly and then misses out front lift

Lift is essential now I reckon. It’s not just for traffic calming measure avoidance but also fo the UK’s crumbling road infrastructure.

Loads of other reasons for lift, not least that for some reason, whenever I have used the Hull-Rotterdam ferry, the high level car only ramps are never properly aligned at the Rotterdam end.

Same car. Thats the one to get.
Shows as 'Reserved' on the RPM website. Not sure whether I like the colour coded wheels or not, probably one to see in the flesh.
Most expensive GT4RS at a OPC I have seen in a while. Lovely spec though!

One of only three on the market with dealers now so I assume this must be a factor

Got a 4RS with lift, is it OK on the Hull Rotterdam ferry? Save me a long trip for the Chunnel?

My 991.2 GT3RS with lift was OK ... the operatives are pretty used to low cars ... and I've always found them to be helpful ...
Thanks, much appreciated

Expensive with stock wheels.

My old 997.1 GT3 with Cup splitter sat lower than my 991.2 GT3 RS and always scraped, as it had no lift. The 3 RS with lift has been fine, so I'd say your 4 RS will be too.

The 4RS, especially with lift, has quite a bit of ground clearance at the front. The rear is another story though... don't try reversing up anything

Agreed, that must be overs on the list price but with only 3 for sale, the current summer demand must be outstripping supply so they are probably giving it a try.
Not everyone wants the potential liability of the mag wheels though so not sure thats a deal breaker.

Yeah that’s the other concern
Thank you

that looks good, maybe even better or to much? with the more 'gold' ish wheels, but already nice as it is.

There are only really a few variations of spec beyond trim. This car seems to have everything bar the mag wheels. It's got PDLS which i wish mine had!
It's low miles, two years old, price doesn't jump out as crazy but I don't follow the market closely.

Can’t see the point in an RS with buckets but without roll cage but we’re all different I guess.

depends if you race it, the seats are good, give you also a sporty feel and if your not driving it at say 90++ % all the time, I would not care about a cage, those cars look pretty safe to me for if... something goes bad.
and ow, we are not aloud to drive faster then the maximum speed limits
its fot our own safety you know, its not for the Tax creeps to spend on wars or certain p

I specced my 4RS with clubsport delete as I will only use for the road. I didn't see the point of having the weight and visibility penalties that the roll cage gives. Whether it hurts me come resale - who knows? I always spec my cars for my own preferences rather than the next owner. I've had mine for 18 months now and I love every second of driving it. Big step up in performance from my PDK 718 GT4.
