Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

They cant be sure how bad or if piston damage has occurred and car is running OK.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently picked up my 996.2 C4 cab, just had it serviced at Hartech where they let me know there was evidence of scored bores They cant be sure how bad or if piston damage has occurred and car is running OK. At the same time I had an IMS Guardian fitted, sump got cleaned as did filter. After 125 miles of driving the alarm sounds on IMSG, after a chat with jake at Flat 6 we confirm its not a false alarm, I drop sump plug and there is a shard of metal across the IMSG contacts, sadly I knocked shard off in my haste to see what it was I drained oil into a tray over night, allowed it to settle, poured back through a metal sieve (quire large holes) and then examined the bottom of the tray, found these little bits of metal (and what looks like an insect thats dropped in there overnight haha Metal doesn't seem to be ferrous, my magnet wont pick it up and the IMSG sounded with a different tone (Jake said its designed to detect ferrous and non ferrous swarf). I'm surprised at how fast the IMSG did sound so son after a service where the sump was dropped and cleaned out, I'd of thought Hartech would have picked up the presence of metal chips. Car now sat waiting for me to work out what to do, I don't want to drive it in case its an IMS bearing failing Has anyone had an IMSG sound and then found alloy bits in the oil? Guess the next job is back to specialist, pull oil filter out and see if that has metal flakes as well

POST 2Original post

I think you are in good capable hands at Hartech. Keep us posted.

POST 3Original post

Have you cut open the filter for exmamination?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

filter had nothing in, fresh oil and filter fitted, car now up and running and no repeat. It might have been bits of metal dislodged when the sump was refitted doh
