Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use my dash tool to measure just for the heck of it but go by the dipstick.
Leading evidence: 'Use dash tool' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check dipstick and also verify' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I check the dipstick and also verify on the dash (they are usually very close).

I would assume you are also checking the oil level gauge on the dash prior to starting.

I have checked via dipstick once engine has been driven and warm, but oil isn't showing as it normally would on the stick.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All,
New to this platform and know I'm asking a dumb question, but just picked up an 04 C4s and had an oil changed. Wanting to monitor the oil as you would with any performance car.
I have checked via dipstick once engine has been driven and warm, but oil isn't showing as it normally would on the stick. I know there's an onboard computer which tells you oil levels, but there's gotta be a way to get accurate measures via the dipstick.
What am I missing? I've seen some places saying that you need engine warm but then to let it sit for a couple minutes for oil to collect etc.
Let the car sit overnight. Pull the dipstick and wipe it off. Then re-insert the dipstick and pull it again. Have a shop towel handy. Fresh synthetic oil is very difficult to read on the dipstick sometimes. Old mechanics tip - have a clean fresh shop towel on the ready, Place the end of the dipstick on the shop towel horizontally. That will give it a good read. I would assume you are also checking the oil level gauge on the dash prior to starting.
How much oil did your mechanic add? Should be on the bill. Did they change the filter?
What do you mean by "..oil isn't showing as it normally would on the stick..."?
Just my view..
The Dash indicator, is pretty much as good as the dipstick at least on my car.
Overnight cold engine, there are varying opinions, I run mine at bar #3 from the bottom those bars are about 1/4 liter each.
Never fill from a hot measurement you will overfill the engine which is far worse than being 1 quart low out of 8 on the street.
FWIW, my garage is flat and level, my driveway drops the front of the car 1" That inch will throw the reading off by about 1/2 liter.
If I pull my dipstick like at the gas station immediately when the car it at full temp, the oil is just barely if at all touching the dipstick till it sits at least 5 minutes..
Its not low.. Let it sit an hour and its up..
The engine is technically a "dry sump" The oil drains around the crank etc and down through into the actual oil sump,
There are scavenger pumps that move oil from the head to the block, and the supply pump looks a bunch like the old Air cooled dry sump pumps.
There is a ton of backstory and history on the Oiling system. Multiple revisions depending on year and minor tweaks as time went along.
Congrats on the C4S Mike! Looking forward to seeing pictures.
I think everybody said it. Test the oil using the dipstick when cold on a flat surface. I use my dash tool to measure just for the heck of it but go by the dipstick.
