I have a 08
Cayman S
, right not the passenger often won't open, The handle will cause the window to release but it doesn't allow the door latch to actually release.
It is intermittent but lately seems to happen more often than not but my gf does not appreciate this at all, lol.
It doesn't seem to happen to the drivers side at all though.
Thanks
Does it happen with both inside and outside handles? Does it work correctly using the key FOB?
It does happen both inside and out, its not the lock itself that seems to work correctly from the fob or the car switch. Its that you pull the handle and the window drops as expected but it seems that what ever releases that latch mechanism to work doesn't actuate correctly. I can get some video of it shortly.
Did you see this?

Not a fix but a similar problem.
Yeah I guess I am going to have to take the door apart
So I did learn a moderate bump right below the door handle seems to work basically every time.
Sounds like the latch mechanism is on the fritz, they are finicky. I’ve had mine out and there is a certain amount of play between the handle and the latch mechanism. Once it gets a little sloppy, the two parts don’t engage well.
In older cars, I saw similar issues when the door was sagging... if it sags enough, the mechanism can't really release due to friction or binding. The bump you mention could be helping that as well.
Bottom line, check the latch and look for sagging. Ideally, the door should line up correctly to the latch. There are plastic and other components that help align the door to the latch, but if you're rubbing on them a lot, eventually they'll wear down and you'll have this problem. In such a case, you fix the sagging and replace the plastic stuff as needed.
2 door cars historically had such issues, because doors in the 70s were HEAVY. That said, it's still a cantilever design... so it's easy to sag over time. Check the hinges, while you're at it... they could have simply moved, too.
drakasia, if the fist bump works for you, most likely its the door lock actuator. It will gradually get worse until the bump stops working and you’re stuck.
Thanks I will look at getting it replaced sooner rather than later
yes, my wife was not very happy when she had to crawl over the seats to exit the car...
i replaced both sides on my 987.2 previously as they had failed within a year of each other.
