Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I just changed the rear struts without removal of axle or any suspension links. All of the post I saw referenced a more complex procedure. 1: Remove caliper and line bracket using the 2 caliper bolts and 1 bracket bolt. 2: Remove strut pinch bolt /swaybar link. 3: Using small prybar/ screwdriver pop bottom end of spring up and out of the lower spring perch. Use palm of hand to bop the opposite side of the spring to assist side movement. 4: Spin spring down about halfway 5: Compress strut up by hand enough to release strut from upright 6: Remove interior and access 3 strut top nuts per standard method. Installation is reverse of above. Be certain to properly align the notches on the plastic spring top with the 3 bolts on upper perch. Note: I have OEM Cayman R springs installed on OEM PASM struts. Different combinations of strut free length and spring length may not work with this method. The combination I have has nearly zero preload at full extension. Only utilize this if you can verify near zero preload and understand safety required for springs on struts. Proceed at your own risk.

POST 2Original post

Posting so I can follow this. I have coilovers from Penske coming soon and installing lowering springs on my old struts required taking out the axles, etc.

POST 3Original post

Has anyone else tried this? I'm replacing my OEM non- PASM struts this weekend to replace with an MCS system from Tarett .

POST 4Original post

Removal, maybe, but to install the assembled coilover, you're gonna have to remove a few more things. This is from when I put my bilstein coilovers in my 987.1 .

POST 5Original post

At the rear, if you remove the bottom subframe brace you can pivot the suspension down far enough to get the strut out/in withought disconnecting the driveshaft.
