Suspected cause
Yeah I thought it was the factory extended warranty.
Leading evidence: 'factory extended warranty' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'factory extended warranty' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cost' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

A silly question perhaps but what does a PPI check cost??

How does good old Srecko intend to fix a less than perfect panel repair for example if that's what's uncovered by the PPI?

or is it more common to do a PPI before any cash changes hands?

I thought that Lorbek used Auto Art for some of their work?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Don't buy the warranty.
like Theo said not really worth it
at all
, especially their warranty which I believe is call Notianal or something like that. Do a google search on and you'll change your mind quick smart.
Definitely a PPI if you are buying from these guys.
Have it done at Auto Art in Preston.
Some good advice above. An independent ppi is essential.
When does the factory warranty run out on a 997? Statutory warranty from a dealer only covers basic roadworthy stuff and major mechanical failures. You wont have a choice of repairer if something does go bang. A seller will always tell the good stuff and may not not know the full history of a car.
A detailed ppi is good peace of mind. it will also give you an idea of neglected or upcoming service items.
Good luck.
Phil runs a very good shop. Darren normallly looks after the later cars. They are very thorough and passionate about what they do.
Most importanly, they are very trusting and easy to do business with.
Yeh google those third party warranties. The one Lorbek sells isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
I was horrified when seeing just how many complaints are on the net about that National one.
From what I know, only some dealers can even buy a factory official Porsche warranty once the car is out of the original warranty period.
You either buy a cheaper car via private or non-P dealership OR buy a car from a P dealer and pay extra for that luxury which includes a real warranty.
PPI unless its from a Porsche dealer I say. It gives you peace of mind
You really have to quiz these dealers on these warranties. I was told I could get a Porsche one, only to find out it wasn't a P one at all. They really do try it on.
And maybe someone tell lorbek to photograph their cars with the camera straight. I can't look at their ads at all, even though they do have some nice stock
I've driven the car and she is great..
Service was done by a
Peter
Fitzgerald who runs a specialist Porsche service centre here in Melbourne?
Anyone here know Peter ?
If Peter is here, what do you think of the car?
Get an independant PPI by one of the shops that jnr356 suggested.
Here is Peters site :
http://www.fitz-racing.com.au/who_we_are.html
GET A PPI (just in case you werent sure)
From what I know of Peter he is a good guy and knows his stuff. He has been around for many years setting up some of the best cars, definitely one of the top guys here in Melb (or aus for that matter).
Good, I am waiting for funds to clear from the Sale of my Elise... then I'll be in a position to act.
At the moment I am suffering from indecision from over analysis.......
Might drop Peter an email and see if he remembers the car.
Now another PPI question..
Do I have to put a deposit on the car before arranging a PPI? or is it more common to do a PPI before any cash changes hands?
Yeah lorbek want's $5K deposit from me before the PPI.....
But if the PPI throws up some iffy things, I could use that to negotiate.
But Lorbek did say they'll just fix anything the PPI brings up..
Sigh I am suffering Indecision through Over Analysis.....
but I also need $ to clear from the sale of Elise.
Arrgghhh.... need to find a deep hole and not think for a while.
In that instance, see if you can reach an agreeable price, lay down the $$$ and arrange the PPI if your happy with the car.
All you really want is a car that is in good health, if they are offering to remedy any pressing matters then there is nothing wrong with that.
You are not going to beat them up on normal wear n tear cosmetic stuff as it is a used car, but if it needs new brakes, you sure as hell don't want to be paying for those in your first week of ownership when you get an RWC to transfer the ownership!
Hope that helps?
I do think $5k is a little steep for a deposit.. I've put down a lot less for a lot more.
How does good old Srecko intend to fix a less than perfect panel repair for example if that's what's uncovered by the PPI? I wouldn't be paying a cent until a PPI is done. The fact you're getting a PPI says to him that you're serious about buying it. That should be enough I would have thought. Taking $5,000 off you just ties you in no matter what the PPI result is. What if there's a list a mile long of easy to fix things? Even though Srecko says he'll fix them, you might question whether you want a car that's been neglected by the previous owner.
That's just me but I don't trust dealers. Had too many not so good experiences.
(Disclaimer: This does not apply to our good friends at Autohaus Hamiltons)
$5k seems on the large side...very large side.
Contract should be subject to PPI (at least), if your not happy you should be able to walk away and get your deposit returned. Or get the remedial work done at a shop of your choosing. Or negotiate the price down and get the remedial work done yourself.
Good points ^^ I would think its a given that;
should
the PPI uncover any unsatisfactory previous repairs/and/or signs of neglect, those are a reasonable clause to bail on the deal altogether.
There are lots of 997's for sale at the moment, but not at this price range.
And all very good points ^^
Certainly this has been a very informative topic.
Whats your gut feeling on this car?
It sounds like you aren't totally into it.....
Does the car speak to you? Do you lay awake at night imagining yourself driving it?
Car is beautiful, just can't commit to buy right now as I need the sale of the Elise to finalize and the cash to come in.
I woke up at 5am several night thinking about the car, does that count?
And I've been reading the PDF owners manual...
Make sure the contract states "the PPI is to the satisfaction of the purchaser", not just "subject to PPI", and what will happen if not satisfactory.
You'd be amazed at what some dealers will say. Having sold cars for a short time, technically, they only need to allow a PPI, wouldn't matter what comes up. It's been done like in the contract.
I haven't heard of anyone holding a purchaser to this and I'm sure they probably wouldn't to avoid negative publicity, but I'm sure I was told by our guys all those years ago that they could hold someone to it if they were that way inclined.
