I'm guessing it's just an adhesive similar to adhesive used on exterior emblems.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Has anyone replaced or removed the steering wheel emblem? If so, how is it removed? and does anyone know where I can get a silver emblem for the steering wheel. Thanks

POST 3Original post

Looks like these guys have replacement emblems in silver.... http://www.bumperplugs.com/BPindex.html

POST 4Original post

I'm giving this thread some CPR! Seems the original poster didn't get much mileage/help with his/her question. So I'm hoping someone out in Porsche -world since that post in 2006 can offer some insights. I'd like to remove the steering wheel center emblem (see attached photo) and replace it with the same emblem but more mono-chrome in color. So... Can the emblem be "easily" removed? If so, how? And if it can be removed, who sells replacements of different colors? Thanks!

POST 5Original post

From what I learned some time ago, when I researched this question, NO the factory emblem can't be removed easily or safely. There was a vendor selling silver crests way back when that attached over the existing emblem, but Porsche took a dim view of it, and the safety concerns of having an airbag deployment and getting the aftermarket crest impaled in one's chest killed that business. Guess we'll just have to 'suffer', with the gold emblem.

POST 6Original post

Thanks for the response! Does anyone know how the factory emblem is attached? I'm guessing it's just an adhesive similar to adhesive used on exterior emblems. 'If' that is the case, couldn't simply heating with a heat gun then sliding some fishing line behind it take it off? I wonder if the folks who re-color the OEM hood emblem can re-color the steering wheel emblem. Gonna have to do some more research.

POST 8Original post

I have a couple of solutions for this. My quick story: a few P-cars ago I had a 986 with the sport wheel. It had a gold emblem and I really wanted silver. After hours of online searching, I found the exact same thing that was mentioned in this thread - you DON'T want to attempt this EVER. It will result in permanent damage to the airbag, and even worse, if you glue a new emblem on the airbag and it happens to go off, you have a 200 mph exploding emblem flying in your face. You have two options. I'm not sure about 9X7 models (which yours is) but different 9X6 airbags had silver emblems, and different ones had gold - all you had to do was find someone who wanted the other, remove it and make the swap! I advertised on PCA.org for a swap and heard from someone within 2 or 3 days wanting to make the change. A few days later I had the silver, he had the gold and both of us were happy! It only cost the UPS freight. The other option is to simply tape it (or lightly sand it and tape it) and spray a coat or two of the color you choose. Costs you a can of paint and maybe an hour or two of labor. If you do an actual airbag swap, make sure that you and the swapper completely understand which airbag it is (standard or sport) and what condition the leather / vinyl is in so that no one feels cheated. Good luck!

POST 9Original post

This option would be fantastic! Can anyone confirm whether some 987.1 Boxster/Caymans have a gold steering wheel emblem and some have a silver?

POST 10Original post

Yeah, looks like trying to take the emblem off is a foolhardy undertaking. Thanks for the photos!
