I've used ACF-50 sprayed onto a rag then use a green scouring pad to gently get rid of the rust.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys First post! I just bought a 987 3.2S - it's been great and is in really nice condition. One thing that bothers me though is the surface rust on the hubs (between the alloys and the discs). See image below: Photo Is there any way I can get this part painted or treated? It's not part of the alloy, and I did enquire with one garage and they said it's not something they'd do. Everything else on the car looks great, it's just this unsightly surface rust which I know is only cosmetic but let's it down a little. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I've used ACF-50 sprayed onto a rag then use a green scouring pad to gently get rid of the rust. Done it with suspension nuts and exhaust bolts and they come up like new.

POST 3Original post

If you are diy savvy then rub them down and paint with Smoothrite. I did this when I had new discs fitted two years ago and they still look good.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the suggestions - I just checked and the smoothrite comes in a silver which could be perfect. Thanks!

POST 5Original post

Its the disc bell, nothing more that surface rust, however unless my eysight is failing your discs could do with replacing or a skim at least even Mick jagger does not have lips that big

POST 6Original post

Some people hammerite this part. Either in black, or in the same colour as the brake calipers. This was posted on an earlier Porsche thread.

I always brush paint all my cars, even brand new ones as they rust very quickly. I have done my 987 in satin black last year and it still looks great....easy peaty, just jack up and remove road wheel.

POST 10Original post

Smoothrite most certainly sir .....silver looks the best in my humble opinion

POST 11Original post

From the factory the bell is painted a mid-grey, kind of like a primer colour. Silver smoothrite will be perfect though but do remove as much rust as possible first.

POST 12Original post

Interesting topic - I have mid grey with a satin finish from factory to the inside surface of the alloys (they are basalt black)and from time to time tar or small pieces of grit/dirt get fixed to the surface. However, even a gentle rub results in the black base grinning through and some corrective work is therefors required. Porsche Reading needed a photograph of the wheel as they could not understand a pretty straighforward request although there will be cars in their showroom with the same finish. Eventually they confirmed that there is no part number for the product/paint they use and cannot therefore supply matching paint. If anyone is going on a Factory Visit could they pop into the paint shop and get me a small jar of the stuff please. Seems incredible that no one at Porsche has a clue!!
