Head unit upgrade question?
I have a 2012
987.2 Cayman S
black edition. I want to upgrade the head unit so i can connect to my phone and play music etc from my phone. it is my daily
my requirements/hope:
Android/Apple Auto wireless
largest possible touchscreen that is not floating (not sure what that is)
3A charging (not 1.5A)
prefer HD radio but not necessary
camera input for back up camera
and preferably a harness that can plug into the current system so if needed can go back to stock
prefer HD radio
integrates with the current BOSE system
Everything I have looked at on Crutchfield required adding/running wires, no harness etc. (was looking at the Sony xav-9000es)
not sure if PCCM plus upgrade is possible or meets all these requirements and also was hoping to spend less then that if possible
All help is appreciated. Thank you
PCCM+ is not compatible on 987.2s. I hear that the Alibaba PCCM+ dupe is compatible with the
987.2
and is $300 for
Android Auto
,
Carplay
, etc.
I don't have a link to it but it's very popular on the Facebook 987 groups.
Good lord! You've been here for over 5 years.. you're a PLUS member.. (which means you did something special that an admin - likely me - rewarded you for..)

It's 24 pages now. Please never suggest ANYONE go to the Facebook 987 groups - I can't think of a more frustrating experience - you start following a thread - suddenly the screen refreshes and the thread is gone. Sometimes for good - no amount of searching will turn it up. Today I was in the middle of posting a comment where I wanted to get a link for the comment from Chrome - an Android phone. Got the link, copied it, went back to the FB app - and the post I was working on, the thread it was in, and the group the thread was in - were ALL gone. Invisible. Apparently, I was spending too much time in one place and churn is the money-maker there so they churned me and my partly completed post. Ad exposures.
Dear
@Figure8
- the answer you're seeking is found in the link above. No need for Facebook. No need for other forums. It's ALL there. Have at it. If you have questions - please post them in that thread.
And when you have a chance - how about a bit about you?

- I see you're not exactly "new" - been here 6 years - ummm one post 6 years ago, now this one. Show us your car. Brag on it a bit, let us know what you've done with it in the past 6 years.... how's it treated you?
I replaced the CDR30 in my 2012 R with a
Dynavin
system. My car has the
Bose
speaker system and the
Dynavin
comes with everything required to connect to the
Bose speakers
. The unit sounds great and meets all the requirements you listed. Just do a search for
Dynavin
Porsche
I used the kit from cai. It was perfect and the install directions were great
Premium Porsche 997 & 987 Radio Dash Kit
This is the very best Porsche dash kit on the market for 997 & 987 models. Our kit is different because it uses a solid mounting system that perfectly centers the radio from top to bottom. Other kits on the market either use soft sponge spacers or have no support at all. Neither of which work...

Hi Figure8,
I realize you posted this a while ago and have probably installed something already, but just in case, here's the link to my recent install. I also have a
987.2
Black Edition and performed the upgrade you described.
PCM 3.0 with Bose Overhaul
There are inexpensive "wireless
carplay
usb adapters" available now. Also android ones. Someone recently made me aware of these, and they are under $40. Its crazy to me that
Kenwood
, Alpine,
Pioneer
and other brands want to up charge $100 to $300 for wireless offerings, versus their similar wired
carplay
and wired
android auto
stereos.
I have not tested them at all, but I have spoken to people who tell me they work well. I'm guessing it depends on the particular adapter and stereo combination if it will work.

I've got the
Sony
6000 in my 2012
Boxster
and am pretty happy with it. It looks nice and has a solid feel. My only wish is it had a volume control knob. The interface is "snappy" and the backup camera is high enough resolution to be usable. Wireless phone connectivity with
iPhone
is instant and supports at least 2 phones. Supports High Resolution
Tidal
and
Spotify
and I think HD Radio, but I never use radio. Overall superior software to the equivalent
Pioneer
unit I have in another car. I Have a USB C charger adapter in the passenger footwell, also never used. The
Sony
installs with a harness. I also upgraded the ASK Amp to an AudioControl DSP 4 channel amp and Audison 3-way component speakers.
If you're getting rid of a CDR30 let me know, mine was getting a bit flaky before my
Bose amp
died (which I'm also looking to find a replacement for).
Let me know if you have that old CDR30 and maybe the
Bose amp
available. My amp is dead.
How did you solve it? I guess you had the
Bose
since it was a BE?
I have also a BE with
Bose
and would like to change to something that of coursesounds excellent but also looks good...
