987.2 Dynavin D9-PS

I don't see a better place to ask this, so I'm doing it here. I'm already tired of using the AUX input with a cheap BT adapter powered from the "lighter" port, and I can spare enough cash to swing a Dynavin D9-PS , but I can't find a single user review on it anywhere in Porscheland. My car is a 2011 with the CDR-30 head unit (with an in-dash CD changer, if that matters). Unfortunately, it also has the factory Bose option, which seems to complicate things a bit. Does anyone know if this unit is worth the money? Is it really plug and play? Am I just so old and feeble that I can't find a single review online that is specific to a Porsche 987.2 ?

Disclaimer - I don’t know or use the dynavin stereo. What I will say is that it smacks of generic cheap android head unit with a car specific plastic face on it. I’ve been seduced by this before - very unsatisfactorily with a different automobile. I’m sure it will… mostly… work, but probably drop Bluetooth connections randomly, maybe throw a little alternator whine in there for good measure. For $1,000 - I’d look elsewhere, or maybe just go with a name brand head unit + adapter for the Bose stereo . Does the PCCM+ option work/appeal to you at all?

Yeah, I get the same feeling re: Dynavin , but I have to go through the motions of searching (and asking, and whining, etc.). And I wasn't aware that PCCM+ was available (yet) for the 987.2 . I know it's pricey, but I have to assume that it would work, at least. Time to start poking around at local car audio shops with Porsche expertise, I suppose. It'll give me an excuse to drive, at least.

This seems to be the main installation thread (for a different unit, but lots of useful information): I'm really happy with mine! I had the same issue as you and was also using a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the 12v. You didn't mention for your 987.2 if you had the options aux input, but for the 987.1 owners, our Bluetooth connection creates a radio broadcast that you tune your radio to. And that's not a "high def" modern radio signal, it's the good old 1930s! I had to do a very minor amount of wire cutting between the two units, but didn't need to alter the car at all! As for backup camera (which is included for $200!), I didn't get around to installing it, as there are no steering-angle guidlines overlayed (despite what marketing pictures might imply). So you might get a poor quality and limited video during backup, but nothing with which to guide your path. Might as well back up old-school. For people with existing backup camera feature, note that you'll loose that feature!

I looked at Porsche 's own retrofit. Seems to be great with these caveots: • some users complain the digital audio input is too quiet with no way to get it loud enough • must use a cable; no blootooth connection • it's a locked (android) system, so you can't add other things. I'm thinking of getting a bluetooth OBD II connector and getting additional information on the head unit, such as non-lying coolent temperature, more elaborate MPG information, battery voltage (I often take a lot of short trips and stress the battery ), etc.

I have a 07 Cayman S . I purchased the Dynavin , and installed myself. The Bose system was not a problem. I'd highly recommend the unit. It works exactly as advertised. Anyone who has seen my Cayman comments that it looks factory installed.

And the performance is good enough for you? Expectations met, etc?

Yes. BT, Apple Car Play , Android Auto , Navigation all work very well. Here are 3 pictures. 1 before installation, and 2 after installation.

Thanks! It looks like a viable solution to me, even if $1k is not exactly what I'd call cheap. I really just want something that works better than the stock head unit, which honestly is not even as good as the 2004 e46 Business CD unit that I had 15 years of experience with. Sad!

I have a 987.2 , Bose , cdr-30 , factory aux. similar to the op, tired of having multiple cables and connections to hear very poor sound. After looking around I found an adapter that allows me to connect my iPhone to the head unit directly and is a powered connection. It replaces the aux connection at the head unit. Everything needed is included and once the head unit is out it’s very straightforward. Sound quality is much better than the aux and I have only one cable to deal with. For $120 I found it to be an economical solution, at least for my needs. I have a magnetic mount on my dash vent for my phone and can easily use my maps app as well as any music app on my phone. Yes, it would be nicer to have a complete head unit swap but… I would post pics of what it looks like but am currently away from home for another week. Customer service has been great. I had a couple of questions about one of the connections and was able to get a response that I needed right away. Discount Car Stereo

This sounds great for you .2 guys. Circumvent all the minor problems associated with getting a 3rd-party head unit. Plugging in the phone isn't so bad, as it's probably quicker than connecting via bluetooth and you'll need to plug in for power on longer trips anyway. Plus, keep you backup camera (assuming you have one).
