Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I am seriously thinking about selling my Cayman and finding a 996 TT (2001-03).
Advise on what to make sure gets checked during a pre-purchase inspection?
Also, anything specific in these years that have been problematic?
Thanks so much.
Bill
Bill,
I've found, since buying my 996, that Rennlist is more active wrt water cooled P cars. You may want to search there for some answers.
That said, PP forum is still an awesome place.
Look for a few things. Clutch. They go very fast on 996 turbos. Also look for clutch hydronic system. If the peddle feels stiff, it's a problem. This months Excellence has a great artical on the 996 turbos. Stay away from the tip tonics. They do not make parts for them any longer as per the article. So the transmission would be replaced if problems happen. Also stay away from modded ones. A flash and minor upgrades give you about 100 extra hp's but kill the rings and pistons. Good luck. My next car will be the same. 996 turbo.

Check the June 2012 issue of Excellence. Article titled "Smart Buy 996 Turbo- 415HP for $40,000" It gives some key issues to look for. No earlier than 2002, as they did some structural changes. I am also looking for one on the West Coast. If you see any that you are not interested in, let me know. Will be happy to let you know also.

Hi Guys, my 996tt has been lighting up the 'Check engine" light whenever the boost hits 0.3 bar. When that happens, the engine becomes shaky, feels like a few of the cyclinders are not firing. When we plug it into the computer, it reports that the right banks (unit4,5,and 6) are miss firing. We have drop the negine and found the following: Blacken plugs, intake manifold loose, fuel pump needs changing and injectors cleaned. All that is done, but the problem still persist. turbo is good. all other parts check found good. We now suspect the ECU or the Plugs wire/ electrical system may be the caused. Any idea guys? Thanks. A frustrated 996tt Owner!
