To assist with upgrading the factory Sound Package Plus system, I've gathered specifications from a variety of forum postings, and I've assembled them into the diagram below. Does anyone spot any missing or incorrect specifications....or, should this be considered an accurate representation of OEM configuration and specs? Any confirmation - with reasonable certainty - would be appreciated.
Hope this is right as I'm printing and saving it for future reference.
Thanks for doing it.
Well, as far as I know, the OEM door base is 6,5" in SPPlus. Not 7,9". At least regarding
Cayman
+- S 2006-2009. //Plaincollar
In
987.2
it is 7.9"
Here a comparison with 6,5"
This might be coming in from too far in the future BUT, a few things.
1. Lower door speakers/subwoofers. The grill side size of these IS 8". HOWEVER, the mounting diameter for the hole in the door is only 6.5". Finding an 8" sub with a basket that small is TOUGH. Also, the mounting depth for that hole is only 2.25" from the sheet metal on the door to the track on the window. So you have to have an 8" sub with < 2.25" mounting depth and <6.5" mounting diameter. (I chose to modify the basket on some shallow mount subs).
2. Wiring on the Amplifier. The wiring on the front amplifier is VERY weird. The CDR-24 head unit sends all of signals to that amp, left/right front/back, and outputs to the subs in the lower door and center channel. So it really does look like there is a LOT more wires than needed. You will need to run your own RCAs.
On my
987.2
, the Rockford-Fosgate 165 (6.5 inch) series was a bolt-in replacement (into the stock plastic grill/housing). Holes lined-up perfectly. Just needed to trim off an alignment pin on the plastic housing. I desoldered the connection wires from the OEM speakers. Unfortunately the polarity on OEM isn't marked. I got the wire color codes from a wiring diagram
here.
. But I can't remember whether the '+' wire was striped or solid. Maybe someone will post this info for others.
I could not find a drop in for the OEM woofers so I ended up replacing them with the OEM after the surrounds deteriorated. Wish I knew about the Rockford-Fosgate 165s a couple of months ago. We really need for someone to post the OEM wire polarity identifications.
Connect a 9v
battery
to the speaker terminal. If the speaker bounces outward then the positive terminal of the
battery
is touching the positive wire of the speaker. If the speaker bounces inward then the reverse is true.
I looked in the
987.1 wiring diagrams
at several options (w & w/o
Bose
, W & w/o NAV) and it is consistent that the solid color is the '+' wire. The 2-color (same color as the '+' but with a brown stripe) is the '-'. I'd be surprised if the
987.2
is different. Brown is typically used to indicate ground with all auto wiring.
Anyone know of a set of 8" speakers that can be mounted in the doors? I don't mind adding some standoffs and moving some holes around or something to get the speaker off the door a little ways to open up the options... I'd much prefer to not modify the stock door trim panel though. It seems to me that a person could delete the factory speaker enclosure/mounting bracket for the lower door speaker and put a much better and larger speaker there.
Rockford Fosgate PPS4-8 Punch Pro will fit will a custom adapter.
A 1/2" thick circle of MDF will work well.
These are about as good as you're going to get for the doors.
If you want real deep bass, you're going to have to find a place for a sub. That's hard to do in a
Boxster
.
This schema is totally wrong ...
You all guys made mistakes betwwen ask 987 and 997 and pcm 3 and previous one
First of all pcm3 has no built in amplifier
if you unplug the low level connector from ask you have no sound anymore
the problem of the ask amplifier is that internal amplifier module burn usually and quality is just a sheet from italy ...sorry i get pissed by this subject
removing the ask amplifier should be replaced by a 8 channel one at least for panamera 2010
my 09 Boxster base with sound package, has a satellite tuner at bottom of stack. Nothing in manual. It will turn on but no reception.
