Now the GT3 decapitation has been confirmed as real, I wondered what the interest levels are and whether anyone on here is trying to get an allocation?
Price wise, while £200K is a huge chunk of money they don’t look quite such bad value against say a GT3 touring once the Mag wheels, PCCB, Bose, interior carbon and various ST bits are taken into account.
Mandatory caveat: Everyone can make their own choice or justification - its your money!
If you are not buying a Winged .2 GT3 for track... and you want a primarily road biased GT3.... I personally think the S/C is the one to have over a .2 GT3 Touring as it is quite a good value package as you've mentioned,
S/T Cf Front Wings
S/T 3RS Cf Doors
Mags as standard
PCCB as standard
Of course... for some people - Manual only is a deal breaker - and there are those that just prefer a fixed roof or couple and would't ever been seen dead in a droptop - BUT that is a lot of extra kit in the base car configuration - essentially leichtbau package & and the S/T CFRP bits aren't even configurable on a Tin Top GT3. Open top just allows another dimension - so all that combined is easily worth the 40K delta on base car prices - IMO.
I will say that the Street Style Package is a JOKE IMO...
Overall it is still a little 'jarring' that GT3 used to mean track capable road car ... and now Porsche have been release by releasing, changing the definition of what a car from the 'GT department' really means... but the writing has been on the wall for a long time, and the end of the day, their record speaks for itself - they have't made a bad car yet... they don't miss.

I sent my config to my local OPC for one yesterday.
Green, silver wheels, tan interior etc £225k
I am not expecting a reply.
I do worry about the ride quality in a convertible, it's a slightly more relaxed scenario so with no adjustment to the tin tops suspension I don't know how acceptable the ride would be whilst you are smelling the roses.
I think it means there’s more chance of me getting a Touring, so that’s a good thing 👍
I struggle with the idea that the difference in the stiffness of bodyshell/chassis won’t show up on UK roads. I know AP/Harris said it’s imperceptible but AP is a salesman (eg PDK is better than manual) and I don’t previously remember Harris saying how incredible the
handling of a 992 Cab was 🤔

They both say what porsche want to hear, lost count of how many times Mr P has said the best 911 ever.
I quite like it bar the cheesy interior on the launch model, great news its a manual

I'm not in the market for one, it's a lot of cash but as you say you do get more than just a chopped up GT3 touring.
Personally I don't like the rear of any 911 convertible, a lot of the angles it just looks too big an bulbous, is there a Targa version coming also... I assume so, that would make more sense.
Obviously if money is no object I can see them selling a lot, not limited either so they'll continue to build as many as they can sell, but I'd rather have a Spyder RS and save myself a lot of cash.

Indeed, glad I am in a 3RS, I mean what's next, tow bar on the config
I configured one up and sent to a couple of OPC's today, got quite a quick call back from one, explaining they had only been allocated 2 so far for 2026, but were open about numbers not being limited and that "Porsche might just be being Porsche by limiting it to two and assessing demand before allocating more". They have all my details, so will see. I have several porsches currently - 992 Turbo S Cab, Spyder RS and Cayman GTS - but all bought from different dealers, and no real buying history from any one dealer. If I do get offered a GT3 S/C though, I will take it, could well be my perfect porsche road car.

Not really, the question is effectively 'what if you want a GT3 Cabriolet with PDK', to which his answer is 'buy a GTS'.
It's not a comment about hard-top GT3s.

I specced a GTS cab for fun when this was launched to compare price for comparable spec (as much as was possible) - 241k Euros - car prices have gone mental

Except, of course, when the 991.1 GT3 came out his disdain for manual wasn’t implied, it was explicit. He told us that PDK was more involving to drive.
He’s responsible for some incredible cars, there’s absolutely no doubting his achievements. But when he is talking in an official capacity on the record (ie everything you’ll ever read about), it’s marketing.

Did he actually say ‘more involving’ - wasn’t it something like ‘just as involving’ or ‘nearly as involving’?
Sport_Turismo_GTS said:

He did very much say "more involving."
Indeed, not only did he say it, he rather ironically prefaced it by saying, "some people call me a marketing guy. I am not. I have nothing to do with marketing, it's my own inner conviction or confidence: this really works and it's more fun and it's more involving [wags finger], and this is the important point, than the manual."

Like I said, he's responsible for some epic cars. But what he says in his official capacity is best ignored. It's not remotely reliable. Take the cars on their merits, ignore the fluff.

Playing devil's advocate here: The 991.1 was launched as a winged track car. For using the car on track, I'd go PDK any day. It's impressive how brilliantly PDK works in the Cayman GT4 race car. I can't say I'm lacking engagement when racing it. On the road with today's draconian speed limits, I'd always want a manual to increase engagement. That's where the S/C will be used (I cannot convince my self to add "GT3" to its moniker)
Personally agree that for track driving there's plenty going on to keep you "involved", prefer PDK for that.
But the 991.1 GT3 was a fully carpeted, electric-everything road car. It's not an out-and-out, striped-out track car, let alone even remotely an actual race car, and in any case there was no road-biased purist alternative premium 911. The vanilla GT3 had both rolls. Still does.
You could probably make your case for the RS, even if that is really still primarily a road car that's capable on track as opposed to an actual track car with all the major compromises for the road that would entail. If you did the absolute minimum it would take to a make a 911 Cup car road legal or a, say, an RSR race car road legal, for instance, the results in either case would be quite different from the GT3 or RS retail products, stuffed to the gunwhales with deviated stitching and the rest.
AP basically bigs up whatever they're selling at the time, and you can't criticise him for that. What else can he do? But he's not an impartial enthusiast, he's a leading Porsche executive and people seem to forget that. He might have some interesting observations to make when he's retired, of course.

1/4 million pounds to get burned off at the lights by a Polestar……no thanks.
Do not worry about the off from the lights.
I have stalked many super fast straight line cars from behind around the twisties and that's when you find out the true specialities of the RS.
Those other cars are out of shape and the RS isn't even trying, insane speed carrier

Surely if you are worried about the traffic light Grand Prix, a GT3 of any flavour is not for you.

On the folding bucket issue: Went to my OPC to sit in the new folding buckets. I understand why some people will get back ache from them. It would require some work to get it into a shape that they'd be as comfortable as the 2.1 fixed (or the olden folding) buckets for me

That’s interesting - I used to find the older (991.1) seats very comfortable and could easily travel 300 miles (or until needing to stop for fuel) without stopping.

Yes you are correct. At that money it would be the Turbo S for me. I remember when the GTS was slower than the GT3. Now it’s the other way around. The EV/hybrid thing has really upended the motoring food chain.

I love both, the old folding buckets as well as the fixed buckets in the 2.1. I can do 5.5h non-stop drives (curtesy of a 90l fuel tank) and get out of my cars feeling fresh. These older buckets were for me by a large margin the most comfortable seats in any car I have driven (this includes the sofas in Bentley GTs)
It's definitively worthwhile checking them out before ordering. It will likely be a non-issue for many, but I would need to do some work with my OPC's upholstering specialist before they properly fit

.
The new Turbo s is a great car, very very fast but feels much closer to a GT3 .2 Tour now suspension, body control and steering weight feedback wise.
I love the new Style folding buckets, have done a 7hrs round trip in them with zero discomfort. They are tighter fit on the sides than the ones in say the 992.1 GT3 though, but you do sit lower then any other 918 Style seat that i have sat in.

Must be the first batch.
It reminds me of the 991.2 GT2 RS. I was among the lucky ones called for a first allocation when we thought they’d build just 1,500 worldwide and dealers got more over the following year.
It is more the Euro 7 which makes me wonder if the production will make it a very low volume series.
Let’s see.
Anyone with an allocation?

Literally just landed back home from the Highlands. 5.5 hours with a fuel stop after the first hour to get me home without stopping again. In a .2 with the new buckets. I find them no different to the 918 buckets at all, personally.

I agree for a long drive you don’t feel the difference with the previous ones. But for some reason, I feel the previous “gen” was of better quality and looked a bit better. Anyway, they are still great seats, enough to eagerly tick the box when speccing a car!
On another note, the fact they are folding has enabled to create a moment I will never forget when my teenager sons decided to seat at the back of the Touring. Memorable!

Worth looking at the configurator pics of the seat. There is an about 10 inch part at the bottom of the back rest that bulges out that's the killer for my back.
But my OPC has always done a good job in getting buckets tailored to my preference. The older two models were too wide for my slim frame and required additional padding on the sides for me to be properly locked in.
Am I alone in thinking this looks like a dog's dinner of a 911? It's like a chop shop car, with the front being from a totally different car than the rear.
The only reason why they "included" all the expensive bits as standard is so Porsche can say minimal weight saving over the normal GT3. For me, it's just a cynical marketing exercise. A big no from me.

As it is a subjective opinion, i'm sure you aren't alone. However, the reviews and tests i've read all seem to be very complimentary.
The reason they included the expensive bits was to keep the weight down but it was a development speed and cost requirement so model specific homologation wasn't required.
I'm with the crowd of embracers - a usable open air manual GT3 with the exotic bits from an S/T. Sounds OK to me.
In the absence of a Targa version, my dream 911.

Agree. if you start from the "GT3" label, then it does not make any sense. I have been a GT3 fanboy since the first gen 996. Hence, I don't understand why Porsche chose to keep the "GT3" in the naming.
If you focus solely on the "S/C" then it's a great proposition for an early morning run over sunny mountain passes (including some decent tunnels for good measure). It's worth testing the car for a while and see how I like it compared to my 2.1 Touring and then sell off the one I like less
For me the GT3 SC has loads of appeal. Living in Scotland with a Spyder RS you do tend to spend every drive looking at the clouds to see if it’s going to rain soon or not! Clearly the SC removes that worry. The real question is whether it’s worth paying the massive premium over my SRS for the electric roof….

Not quite the same I know but did anyone ever moan when Ferrari brought out a spider model of a 458/488 etc?
Suggest you answered your own question. It's not quite the same. 458 / 488 don't have the track rat heritage and marketing baggage, they're just entry-level, essentially all-purpose Donkey. So, Spyder versions don't pose the same perceptual problems.
Personally, I'm fine with the cab, albeit I think it would have looked better as a Speedster.
One fairly obvious possible reason why Porsche didn't make it a speedster that's been overlooked is because there is no Cayster built on the 992 platform. That's relevant because, previously, Porsche used the modular nature of the sports car platform to make Speedsters on the (relative) cheap.
The 991 Speedster, for instance, uses the windscreen frame and associated monocoque pressings from the 981/982 to give a lower front screen. Front half of the 991 Speedster is essentially a Boxster bar some external panels. For the 992, to have a lower screen they'd have had to engineer that stuff just for this one fairly low-volume model. Not really a goer.
That said, the possibly still-born Cayster EV seems to be 992 based, so perhaps those monocoque elements do exist in some kind of pre-production form. Whatever, Porsche might have been better off marketing the GT3 cab as something else, maybe resurrecting some 911 brand from the history books (Sportomatic? Ah, maybe not!). But I suppose the marketing power of the "GT3" badge was probably deemed to powerful to be overlooked.
A Rennlist post talks about AP saying Porsche expects to produce approximately 4000 S/Cs in total.
Tinternet suggests some 5000 992 GT3 RSs have been built to date thus the S/C will be rarer.
My dealer talked about max 1500 S/Cs - not limited numbers but small production run. Have a contract but delivery is "subject to availability".
I would have preferred a Speedster instead of a cab. Will need to drive and experience the finished article to decide whether the car stays in the stable or not

Preuninger said that on Spike s Car Radio Podcast. They,ve got a two year production run he intimated they can t do longer because of European regs changing (again) he said this was the reason they went with the Cab rather than Speedster as they could get it in to production a year quicker and this make enough cars. Or it might just be because it ll be a lot more profitable without an extra year of development !
4000 cars means circa 400 UK cars probably ?
I reckon they’ll do more those 20k 718 s they used to make every year are spare slots on the production line for the next two or three years.

Saw this on insta. Not sure if it s genuine
wouldn't be a surprise either, would it? it pretty much encapsulates the whole gt3 thing today perfectly in many ways I suppose - owner talks up his particular car as the 'best' and Preuninger already knowing the motorsport media will sing from the right hymn sheet in reviews as being better (and especially, not understeering anymore) than any that came previously.....

Thing is "faster" <> "more fun" or "better".
As for the S/C, personally speaking I don't really care: if someone likes it then great and good luck to them buying one. I don't think it hurts someone that wants a track focused winged, 2 seat GT3 or an RS to have someone else enjoying an S/C. Do you really care that the S/C has the effrontery to wear a GT3 badge?
As for the media trumpeting the latest car from Porsche as being "<insert exaggerated cliché here>"... I think most of us here have been around modern social media long enough to recognise that most of the journalists / influencers are just an outsourced extension of the car industry's marketing departments. From the Youtube videos you get some product information alongside some sometimes wonderful videography of the cars on dreamy roads that we all wish we had time to visit more frequently ourselves.
As discussed on this forum previously, because Porsche overcommitted to EVs too quickly they are facing a shortage of fresh "entry level" and "everyday" hybrid and ICE models. As a result they are forced to rely on an increased tempo and volume of the high margin 911 specials to keep cash flowing into their business. Porsche's real test over the next few years will be to see the speed and extent to which their highly priced, 911 specials sell out without dealer incentives. And overproduction of 911 specials would risk weakening residuals across the range and damage Porsche brand value longer term.

Ah... but look at the ever increasing masses of downforce chucked at road cars for faster laptimes.... clearly many buyers
do
think faster
is
better.
and I agree, the amount of angst about the convertible gt3 is quite funny but live and let live without being super precious about the 'gt' badging - if someone wants to buy one (and can get it) good for them.

And each a pinhole in Porsche's balance sheet that add up to a gap.

Wonder what the latest is with SC allocations etc? Anyone got one on order, if so what spec and colour did you go for?
Got an allocation for a PTS slot, otherwise replicating the spec of my 1.2 Touring

Congrats! Yes, they tend to come more towards the end of the production runs...

Colour still to be decided. Currently leaning towards Meissen but things may change tomorrow. Without PTS, I'd have gone slate again as on the Touring. That is still an option, given the ridiculous PTS pricing on the S/C

A friend has just confirmed their sonderwunsch car, in Meissen. Looked fab in the renders
I'm still not clear if this is the GT3 shell or a cut 'n shut job with a Cab shell. AP said the test mule was a Cab in interviews and we know its still multilink at the rear so did they use the Cab shell throughout or are we being told that they reconfigured the whole GT3 shell with new clamshell mount points, new mounts for the roof motors, create a cavity for the fabric top, etc..?

Cab shell with modified front tub for double wishbone front end.

Right, thanks. Too many reviewers getting their facts wrong (like they're still saying it's both 503 and 510hp).
[Tongue in cheek]
How long until RPM Technik offer an SC Conversation for .2 Touring owners?
Will make it easier to gain an allocation and enjoy the top-down GT3 experience.
