Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have experience with doing the upholstery of their two front seats. I have new cushions and leather seat covers from Iseat.com. What about videos?

POST 2Original post

A guy on the Boxster forum just redid his seats with the same brand covers . This should help get you started . http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-g...lseat-kit.html

POST 3Original post

I redid my 986 Boxster seat covers with the LS ones. I've done a few of these and I would say that it will turn out ok if your foam is in excellent condition. If the foam is compressed or worn out, the new covers won't install taut and will have the wrinkly / saggy appearance. I'd spring for new foam for the driver's seat base at the minimum.

POST 4Original post

I just paid to have this done (along with steering wheel), and frankly I think it was worth the cost. These seats are tricky to sew and there's a lot that can go wrong. It cost me around $2,500 all in to have this done here in Orange County CA and I think it turned out fantastic. Album

POST 5Original post

^^^they look great! Was that $2500 all in (with cost of covers) or just labor? Duh just re-read the post right above mine🙄 good deal!

POST 6Original post

I have the lower portion of the driver's seat apart on my car just now. I replaced the foam cushion, waiting on parts so I can finish reassembly. I have not run across anything that seems particularly difficult to do. Take lots of pictures before taking any of apart, take your time.

They turned out great! Your upholsterer didn't use a kit from someone else....correct? They were even able to do a great job on the Porsche crest in the headrest. Who did you use if I might ask?

POST 8Original post

Thanks so much!! You are correct, they did not use a kit, it was all done custom. So not quite what OP is looking for, but any good upholstery shop should be able to install the cover kits he mentioned at a much lower price given the starting point. Definitely worth considering for a professional result. For the headrests, they weren't able to emboss the logo like the factory did, so they embroidered it. Was on the fence initially about the idea but extremely happy how it turned out! The work was done by The Prestige Companies Auto Upholstery in Anaheim.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, good to know, I ordered new foam for the bottoms because mine were shot.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are you following any kind of instructions? videos? or diagrams?

POST 11Original post

My seats are reassembled and reinstalled. They look factory, because, well, they are. The trickiest bit was pulling the leather cover back down over the new foam and connecting it to the seat base. I broke one of the inserts because I pulled on it too hard and it blew up in my face! Almost hit my eye. I used clamps to compress the foam as much as possible. I started at the back and worked forward, YMMV but it was okay for me. Remember to keep the little tab aligned with the hole in the base as you compress the foam. My finishing tool was a fine metal pick that I used to reach in and pull the the insert through the hole. Go slow, don't pull too hard, just get it to click into place. Oh! And if you have electrical controls on the side of the seat be sure to route those cables before you finish rolling the outer edges of the cover into place. Uhh yeah I had to undo/redo a little bit there...
