Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The series that started them all ...
Supposedly there were fiddles applied to the boost levels that were hard to detect. Unless the car was so fast it became obvious.
very cool - 959 as safety car and Salzburgring - my home track. I also drove Brno, which from memory is more of a motorbike track.
Need to do a track day again, I miss that. Still, I think racing would be too much for me - not enough talent.
What do you think a sensible cost now would be for a good original 944 Turbo Cup ?
When a 964RS NGT is £250k ??
Whatever, in the day they certainly were fun at sensible cost ... IMHO !!

It depends on it's race history and who the drivers were, doesn't it? And a 964 RS is a different kind of silly money to a 944 Turbo Cup. Despite the 944 probably being quicker on most tracks. I think Turbo Cups start around £60-70k now, which is about twice were I'd be interested.

And yet to me they (the 944 Turbo Cup) are a much more interesting car ?
Aside from the magnesium parts, surely it wouldn't be that hard or expensive to build a tribute?

I think it's very easy to spend an awful lot on not much. Look at the price of rest-mods ... and money spent modifying is generally money that will never come back ... but for interest ...

Well all the deleting wouldn't cost that much. And 250 turbo's already have the S4 brakes. Plus I wonder how much lighter were the mag inlet manifold and sump? Sure the mag wheels and roll cage make a big difference, but unless Porsche were being economical with the facts, there wasn't much exotic about the 944 Cup.

Great support race this year at Classic le mans for classic cups:
944 Cup
964 Cup
993 Cup
996 Cup
Which one lapped fastest?
996 Cups with over 400HP the quickest
944 Cup bouncing of the rev limiters down the big straights
We were in a 964 Cup but managed to stay ahead of quite a few 996's
My son driving first stint. The 996 have way more grunt and get away on the big straights but then reeled back in on the corners.

You could say that about almost anything ??? Why deny the specialness of the special cars ?
Restomods cost vastly more than the real thing, if you can get the parts …

Because I've never thought the 944 Cup was all that special.
And you are entitled to your opinion, I do and have shown why ...

What else in the Porsche range do you think would do better ?

For the price of a 944 Turbo Cup, a 996 Turbo with plenty of change to uprate and delete weight.

I think removing the 4WD system can save a decent amount of weight... if you're ballsy enough.
If you remove the awd stuff, rear seats and add lw carpet, also just add some cheap replica front and rear GT2 bumpers and spoiler from Teilexx you save 80kgs.

Handy.
But will that ever be a "heritage" car, we really aren't comparing like with like ... and what would be the cost of your mods ?
I have a friend who modified his 996 Turbo as you suggest and found that trackdays were costing him £2000 with all the consumable costs involved ... and wished he hadn't modified it ...

£10k for better suspension/brakes/turbocharger/seats than a 944 Turbo Cup has. Convert the engine to 3.0 using a 2.7 engine and a S2 crank for another £5k. Deleting most of the same parts as the Cup would probably get to within 50 kilos. And you'd have a car that a Cup isn't going to drive away from on a track. Heritage anorak optional.
