Hall all, my new to me 2011 came with an aftermarket clarion unit already installed, but it is very dated. Want something with
Apple car play
.
I can’t get the damn thing out. The cam bolts that you turn 90deg on the factory unit aren’t there. The hidden locking screw isn’t either. Trim is all removed. I can’t find a way to get it to release. I have pryed and pulled. Used a flat metal bar (old school head remover tool from an ancient
pioneer
deck I had kicking around) used interior trim removal tools. Pushed everywhere I can to try find a release spring. Nothing. I am at a loss.
Anyone have something I can try??
(Where the cam bolt should be, but isn’t. Just an empty hole)
Help!
Thanks!
I don't know how to remove it, but I believe Clarions are what
Porsche
installed in cars shipped to Japan So it might not be aftermarket.
After much banging of head against wall… I got it out. There are four release clips. Near impossible to see.
After getting it out and finding the part number, you are correct. Looks like a factory part. This just got way way harder……
I out the
Erisin
unit in my
981
and really happy with that. Lots of work though. Good luck
Had a similar issue updating a head unit and the release clips are hidden right behind the bezel mounts. I used a 1" putty knife and finally found them to get it loose.
AFAIK -
Erisin
doesn't make a unit to fit the 987 series cars. There are other Chinese aftermarket ones that a pretty much
plug
and play. A search of the website (hint - start in the 987 electronics subforum) should turn up lots of into (which I'll be adding to shortly.)
If
Crutchfield
Audio is available for online sales where you live, I would give their website a visit. I replaced my original outdated head unit for a touchscreen, wireless
Apple CarPlay
unit with remote microphone for hands-free calls and backup camera. They can also provide installation specific harness adapters to make installation easy. Have used
Crutchfield
for years on several vehicles and have been very happy. Can even speak to a live tech support person with questions about installation or setup.
