Suggestion
There are plain jane M8 bolts, and if you try torquing them to 81 Nm, you will be replacing the bolts and the nuts inside the differential.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
Using a G96.01 in a project and thought I would double check the stub axle bolt torque. Does anyone know it? Doesn't appear to be in the 996 service manual. Maybe that manual doesn't go this far into the transaxle?
Secondly, this bolt doesn't look stock to me (Although I could be wrong). It is class 8.8. (ALthough googling G96.01, I saw one other that had a similar bolt).
Thirdly, trying to tighten or loosen. Even while holding the other flange, I'm feeling slippage. I assume that can't be normal? Unless this bolt has sheared.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Dont have the torques but on the third point u have to hold that flange to tighten. Make a flat bar with 2 holes that line up to the axle bolt holes. Attach it to the flange so u can hold it while torquing the center bolt.
The bolts are M10x50 with a hex head drive and use 81 Nm/60 ft-lb. For tightening them I just put the car in gears and have never had a problem torquing them.
This.
The OEM part number for said axel bolts:
90006712302
The OEM part bolt that holds the flange on is here on page 94 (item 2):

I believe the correct spec is 44 Nm / 33 ft-lb for the output flange center bolts. There are plain jane M8 bolts, and if you try torquing them to 81 Nm, you will be replacing the bolts and the nuts inside the differential. I am not certain what the 81 Nm value in the WSM refers to, but best guess is that it's the collar nut for the 4WD versions of the G96. Cheers,
Ah, good, thanks. Regarding slipping, I am guessing you need to counterhold the output flange. An earlier poster mentioned one way. Another is to thread two M10 bolts into adjacent CV bolt bores, stick a pry bar between/across them, and counterhold that way.
Those flanges look nasty. I would media blast and paint them. Yuck. Good luck with the project.
