Aside from that, I purchased the wiring adapter from CAI store so I didnt have to chop any of my harnesses off, and I ran an accessory power and dimmer switch lines up from the center console.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone. Im a lurker around here, mostly because I was looking for information about upgrading the head unit in my '03 996 with the MOST optical system. It seems that most of the information stated a full upgrade of the head unit and amp was necessary to pull this off, but I figured I'd take the plunge on a cheap optical adapter and try my luck anyways. Outcome?... It works (*almost) perfectly. I used this this unit, which seems to be no longer available, but these are easy to come by. It was originally listed as an optical adapter for an '05 Porsche Cayenne. Aside from that, I purchased the wiring adapter from CAI store so I didnt have to chop any of my harnesses off, and I ran an accessory power and dimmer switch lines up from the center console. The (*almost) is due to a small popping noise when you first start an audio stream. So effectively immediately when you start your music/podcast. Its quiet, and is of no concern to me, its just noticeable so I thought I would note it.

Looks like this might be the same thing, but available? Amazon Amazon What build month is your 2003? I've been told there's an early and a late 2003 version of MOST.

Im not sure my build month, but everything I went through showed the same programming on all 996 MOST systems. They didnt do any major update to the programming architecture for quite a lot of years, so I believe the optical adapter should work on all 996s with the BOSE system.

POST 4Original post

Why do all of these decoders only have two channels? Is that because with a fibre optic connection the amplifier does the balance and fader functions instead of the head unit?
