I see used late model wheels (a lot of turbo twists for some reason) with good tires all the time.

Also, what size tires are you running on those wheels?

I almost want to get a second set just for the tires.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That red 2002 is gorgeous! I want those rims and that suspension for mine. Now I know what my red 2000 will look like once I've changed out the rims and suspension package.
Thanks for the pics.
Rockafella Your car looks great.
I just added NAV a few weeks ago. I painted my console and stereo trim black to give the interior more contrast.I also added V1 remote display.
Scott,
Here are a few more pics to encourage you. The PO bought the M030 suspension from europe...995 euros as I recall. I can look up the place if you want.
And one to keep it old(er) school:
WPOZZZ, your new 996 looks great. Congrats on joining the multiple Porsche crowd, btw.
Rockafella, same goes for you. I love multiple Porsche garages. As for the suspension package, if you don't mind looking up the info, I'd appreciate it. It sounds like a good price. Also, what size tires are you running on those wheels? I'm thinking that I'd like to go with 275 size rears and 235 fronts. I've heard it can be done.
F: 225/40/18 R:285/30/18....these are big tires!
The suspension was $1000 euro from a place called Carnewal in Belgium. Carnewal.com
Installation & alignment was $660 at RennWerks in Mt. View, CA.
The PO says the ride smoothed out a bit with the M030, but it seems stiffer compared to other 996s I drove. But, a lot sharper so well worth it imho.
I see used late model wheels (a lot of turbo twists for some reason) with good tires all the time. I almost want to get a second set just for the tires. I bet you can do this whole setup for under $3k.
As someone who has had P-cars from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and today, let me be the first to proclaim they are all great but my choice for everyday driving is the 996. Then again my all-time favorite was my Maestro 67 912 ;-).
Hey Too Ruf,
That Navigation console looks awesome. I have been looking to replace my radio and am looking for something like that. Is it aftermarket? It looks like I can eliminate my cupholders and radio and fit a double din monitor in there. Can I eliminate the cd holders and place the cup holder in its place? Please enlighten...
Erik
Nice cars guys! Here are mine...
I'm wondering if we can't get more technical information on this board. I'm going to try and post details of anything I do on the car in an attempt to build a decent collection of information here. I'm laways open to suggestions or corrections on anything I post. There are obviously a fair number of people on the board so let's see where we can take it.
Yes aftermarket. Piooner Z-1. You can keep the cupholders and just move it down. I did not have cupholders so it was not an issue for me. The face around the unit is just ABS Plastic that you cut and paint to fit.
Struck by the number of listers with 996 & 1980s air-cooled cars!
How would you describe the different driving experiences? Do you find yourself leaving the old girl behind in favour of the slick, new thing?
Although very different they are clearly related. The older 911 is really the fun weekend car and more suited to cooler weather (AC isn't great even when it is working well). I really wouldn't want to drive it everyday in 105 degree temperatures that we see down here in the summer. You really feel like your working when driving but it's very rewarding and pleasurable.
The 996 is a great everyday car and nice for long distance driving. Slightly more comfortable particulalry the AC, much quieter, and very fast. The 996 doesn't make you feel quite as 'connected' as the older car. It is still very nice to drive, but a little more relaxed.
They are both fantastic cars and I'm very fortunate that I don't have to choose one over the other.
For me, it just depends on the what I want to feel at the moment. The cars feel very similar in terms of basic dynamics (light front end, heavy back end) but they also are miles apart in terms of sophistication and comfort. Honestly, I love driving both of them. The air cooled car feels much lighter and much more basic and visceral, but those traits make it much more tiring on a long drive. The 996, when you take the bull by the horns and get on it, comes alive with power, handling, grip and composure. The performance is there for the taking when I ask for it, but if I'm just in a cruising mode, it's very low key.
I'm planning to hang on to the air cooled car for a long, long time. I have no reason to sell it, ever. The 996 will probably be upgraded in a few years for a 996TT or a 997S. I can't see myself driving any other type of car anymore.
So, normally I don't like to be a snarky pain in the rear, but my girlfriend legitimately has a handicap hang tag. Parking in the not-a-space between two handicap spaces where you're parked is illegal regardless of whether you have handicap plates or hang tag or not.
It looks like the dealers own parking lot and maybe that's where one of their own decided to park it prior to delivery to the new owner they sold it to after a good wash. Who's to say gt3racerich parked it there?
Ok, maybe I shouldn't have made that assumption, but in my experience, more than a few people with $100,000+ cars tend to exhibit behavior, especially with regard to parking (situations like that picture, or taking up 2-4 parking spaces at a time to reduce the chance of door dings, etc), that shows blatant disregard for any consideration other than themselves. If gt3racerich did not in fact park it there himself, then I apologize and hope that he scolded whoever did it. If he did, then my previous comment stands as written.
What about parking across the handicap space like this?
I have to agree with you, but it loks to me as if the car was parked there just for the photo so that the 'PORSCHE' dealership name is over the car.
I just bought my first Porsche 911S on 22 Sep. I've wanted one for over 30 years. The car is an 07 with 2100 miles. I absolutely love the car. My only concern is that the car is 10mm lower with the Aero Kit. I really have to be careful coming in and out of driveways. It's Carerra White with tan interior. The only picture I currently have is too large to upload.

Note: The pic of the Nav unit is back a few posts in this thread.
I have been wondering the same thing-anybody know the answer to this. Will the cup holder work at an angle as is found in the CD location? Would the drink cups interfere with the shifter?
Beautiful purchase. I, like most love black. I am not saying I am lazy but black is high maintenance. My car looks like yours but in the plain ol' Artic Silver.
