Today I noticed that my date on my
PCM 3.0
in my
987.2
is pointing to May 2025 and the time is erratic. My vehicle has Sat Nav so the date is set by
GPS
, I’ve reset the time many times and is still losing minutes.
I’ve performed a hard reboot, but still have the same issue.
My only thoughts is perhaps the
battery
is failing, though I keep it on a
ctek charger
. The
battery
is coming up to 4 years old Jan 2026.
I searched various forums and nothing that
points
to the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Wait, May? 1.21 Gigawatts !
It’s commonly known that crazy behavior at that
battery
age means buying a new
battery
that you’re near to needing anyhow is the proper starting point and since you can do it with that car easily, it’s cheap insurance.
same issue - just started in last month. assume
PCM
is now incompatible with satellite time/date signal.
I'd like to disable auto update of date/time in
PCM
but can't see where it can be done in the menus ... so might be a
PWIS
connection to update a setting somewhere??
Below From Dec 2019 referring to PCM2.1 .. I guess it has rolled over a digit and now affects PCM3.0
Condition
In older vehicles, the date and time generated by GPS are not correct.
Technical Background
Older GPS systems (such as those used on PCM2.1) and satellites represent the date and time as a 10-digit counter. This
counter increments to a maximum of 1024 weeks, or about 19.7 years, then it resets, or “rolls over”, back to zero and starts
counting again. This rollover occurred on April 6, 2019. Newer GPS systems and satellites use a 13-digit counter that is
accurate for a longer period. This conflict between systems and satellites creates a condition where, since April of 2019, the
PCM may not display an accurate date and time. It is not possible to manually select which satellite the PCM uses.
Service Information
Change the time setting to manual instead of GPS time. This is the only way to get the correct time and date for these cars.
Ok, so a new
battery
seems to have solved the random clock resets - I also unticked DST box as this may have contributed to it. However, the
PCM
date has reset itself to 01.01.2007. The units are manufactured by Hartman/Becker and seem to have the 10 bit chips sets so we have the date rollover issue. Can anyone with a
PCM 3.0
with Nav confirm? My car is 2009 (MY10) so need a check a car around that time.
This
PCM
date issue seems to have popped up here several times. Here's a link to a discussion if this issue but there was no resolution posted
