Hi all, I been having a weird problem with the
Bose
radio. I have owned the car since new, so I know that no one has messed with the radio or other electrical components.
The radio comes on when I start up the car. I can see the station, the song title that is playing and when it changes, and I can raise or lower the volume. However, no sound comes from the speakers. I'll drive for a few minutes and stop for gas. When I get back in the car and start it up, now the radio plays like it should. It started doing this in January of 2025. If it was a really cold day this would happen. If it was a warm day the radio would work just fine. I tried to figure out what could be causing the problem, but I never found the cause. In the summer there were no radio issues. This winter it started doing it again. Except now I have to drive longer before the radio will start working, and some days like today, it will not work at all. I figured out that I can tell when the radio is not going to work. When I first open the door a loud static type of noise comes from the speakers for about a second.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks.
This is a known problem with the
Bose
amplifiers in the early year
Caymans
. The amplifier has some sort of issue. It is usually evidenced by speaker static when opening the door even when the car is not on. My
2006 Cayman S
with factory
Bose
-
Porsche
OEM system (CDR-24) did this and drove me nuts. The
Bose amplifier
is the source and can be repaired or swapped. There are several forum/blog posts documenting this issue. I do not have any links but a thorough search can find them.
Becker Autosound in NJ can refurbish/swap your amp. Not cheap but it did fix the problem.

Thank you, ochritofferson. I appreciate the information. The noise you describe when opening the door is exactly what I hear when I open my door. First time it happened I thought I had scratched the paint with something. When this problem initially started with my
Cayman S
, it was only on very cold days. Once I drove for a short distance, stopped for coffee, and started the car again, the problem was gone. But now it does it almost every day regardless of the outside temperature, or if a make a quick stop for something. I will do a search on the site to find a repair procedure. You say the problem is caused by the
Bose amplifier
. I can imagine myself taking the whole interior apart to get to it.
Thanks again.
On the
987.1
cars, the
Bose amp
is easily accessible. It's behind the fuzzy lining of the frunk, about dead center and below the battery.
