Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just saw this ad here and it broke my heart. https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1272554 Backstory, I was in moving this summer right after my 996 developed intermix so I went around to local shops that I had relationships with to see who had engines or parts to fix my car. One of the places had an aerokit 996 that was abandoned by a customer with a bad engine. I wanted to buy it, but they said the owner was unresponsive to calls and that there was another party interested in the car and wanted to do an engine swap from another vehicle type. I really did not want this to happen to 99 aerokit 996. Told the shop to give the owner my number and I would buy it cash to save it. I ended up moving, but went back to check on the car a couple months later when I was on business travel. Car was still there, but apparently the buyer and seller had made contact and it looked like I had no chance to get it anymore. Well, I see the car now listed in the ad with a Youtube video of the project and it looks like it's just going to be some kind of sideshow freak project for Youtube revenue. Oh well... I know some people are into this kind of stuff, so many of you will be happy to see the project. I think it would be cool as well, but why did it have to be such a nice 996 aerokit that could have been easily fixed? Dang. I'm completely ready to hear the "get over yourself" comments from the field, but I'm like for real sad to see this. Anyways, here are some pics I took the last time I saw the car in person.

POST 3Original post

Would be a shame if that rear spoiler went missing in the night.

POST 4Original post

If you really want it - make the new owner an offer he can't refuse for it.

Nah, brother. Its gone and they have their plans for it. They got it fair and square. I dont have to like what they are doing, but good luck to them.

POST 6Original post

Projects like that are fun. Best luck to them. Remember, cars (even Porsches) aren't sacred objects. Their price for the m96 core seems decent, it they were closer I would buy it from them just to rebuild and shorten the time mine will be down when I do an elective rebuild in a year or two. Always nice to keep a spare engine around.

POST 7Original post

That's sad, but at least they are doing something with the car. I have a 75 F250 Highboy, so I belong to some truck groups and a couple months ago a famous YouTuber bought a really nice one, probably a $20-30k truck and literally destroyed it in 5 minutes. He ran it into trees and stuff until it couldn't move itself and then he crushed it with a tractor. It's a shame the stupid things people can make money off of these days...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had a really nice full leather gray interior too.

Tesla swap It would have been better if he drove it over with a tractor or pushed it off a cliff. You Tube

He is a RL member and I believe he is putting the black cars motor into the silver aero, and doing the EV conversion on the black car with the sketch title.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17976242

Well, that is a relief. Im not as bothered by it if the silver car is saved. It was too nice to be converted.

POST 16Original post

Sorry to get your hopes up. I was wrong. That was his plan in the beginning. I wish him luck!

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17976293

Yeah, that's what I had understood. The silver car was always going to be bastardized. Initially, I had heard potentially an LS engine swap. What a shame. I don't get it. There's so many common Carreras out there. Why do this to such a nice car? Since you are in contact with them maybe you can talk them out of it. Please send the car to a good home.
