With over 100k miles on my
987.2
base C, my suspension is pretty worn. I would like to get coilovers at some point, but that's not in the cards right now since we're looking at moving within the year.
I saw a post selling
987.1
S
Cayman
shocks and struts (with 20k on them) for a reasonable price, but am wondering if the spring rates will be a concern (or if there's any other reasons these wouldn't work).
As I understand it, the
987.1
base, .1 S, .2 base, and .2 S all have different spring rates from factory. Is this because of the different engines (and weight differences) or does the S just feature a more "sporty" spring rate than the base?
Is there any reason why I couldn't use the .1 S springs/shocks on my .2 base?
IMHO, if you are on a budget, you should Not have any issues with the
987.1
S struts and springs.
If your struts are worn, you will be surprised by the improved ride the newer shocks will provide.
BTW, where are you located?
PS: Just realized that this post was almost one year old.. wander what the OP ended doing..
I was looking at a used set but didn't pull the trigger on them before someone else got them.
I'm most likely going to end up doing
Bilstein B6
sport shocks w/ the
Cayman R springs
; but I'm not making any purchases any time soon since we're moving (across the world) and there's a chance I sell the car.
I went with
R springs
and
Koni
Sports.
Spyder
performance refresh kit. WONDERFUL!!!
Interesting post. Has any one just cut the stock springs 15-20mm or so? Not sure if putting stiffer springs on old struts is warranted in my case atm. But thinking of lowering the car a little to see how the fitment looks/feels...thanks
IMHO, cutting the springs is the worse decision you can make
Instead, buy a set of KW springs, they cost you about $450 for the set, are TUV approved and they are 'progressive este springs' this means you will not be bouncing all over the place.. and these will lower your car about 1"
.
Cutting springs stiffens the spring. Plus you need to heat and bend the tail to match the perch. Not something most people can do.
I'd just find a set of springs and do all the work once. It's not a bad but but you'll just end up doing it twice. Two alignments too.
You know you want to lower it ....just do it once and do it right. Heck you are in Maryland...I am in Richmond...come and drive my car.
