Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

While I'm in there, should I replace the AOS and associated lines/hoses? Car has 45k miles and haven't had any problems in this area. Was just thinking that it might be easier to access with trans out. How about the coolant expansion tank?

POST 3Original post

make sure you get new flywheel bolts............ wouldn't hurt to change the gear oil....... if it's a 2000 or later you'll need to drop the rear of the engine a bit to swap the expansion tank, kind of a pia unless you're dropping the whole engine....... I would at least update the cap to the black one if it currently has a blue cap.

POST 4Original post

What is the difference between the black and blue caps? I have a 2000 Carrera with a blue cap.

POST 5Original post

the blue caps prematurely start to vent, a telltale sign is coolant residue around it. biggest problem with this is the drain for the expansion tank usually moves and dumps onto coil pack #1, the result is a cracked coil and misfires if it's not caught. the black cap is the porsche update which seems to be the fix, I have seen this countless times at our shop, but being florida we probably see more than cooler climates.....i have seen black caps vent prematurely, but most every blue one I've seen fails. you can easily move and secure the overflow drain tube away from coil 1.....

POST 6Original post

I looked at Pelican Parts for the new radiator cap: All they show is a blue cap: Pelican Parts - Product Information: 996-106-447-04-M100 Is this the fixed replacement cap?
