Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also want to have built in Navigation, as I don't like using my phone if I don't have to.
Leading evidence: 'Use phone if i don't have' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use phone if i don't have' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The I think the unit is standard double din chassis, but the screen is bumped out a little and would sit on top of the switch trim on the left and right.my car only has the lock button there so it wouldnt matter
That looks like one of the stereos made for the VW MK5-6 openings. So unless you can make a custom bezel around it to mate with the 996 dash it would leave gaps to the install kit bezel. That being said I bet you could 3d print a custom bezel to make this look like a factory install....Hmmmmmmm
Also here is a picture of mine with the Atoto installed in it. I like that head unit because the buttons and trim match the colors of the factory buttons and trim. Also since it is android based you can add apps such as torque to monitor the car as you are driving. Otherwise I just stay in carplay mode 99% of the time.
After mocking it up it wouldnt work well without relocation the cigarette lights and wiper delay dial, but that could be done and maybe recover the trim pieces or 3D print blank ones.
Guys, you just need a simple ISO double DIN head unit. There are literally hundreds of head units exactly like the one you've shown built to the correct size to fit directly in our dash. Derpending on the unit you choose, you might need a seperate thin metal cage that wiould slide into the opening first to act as a sleeve, and the new radio would slide in and lock there.
Just google ISO double DIN head unit and you'll see what's avvailable. I've been researching what to use in my own 996 and the Boss head units are inexpensive and have universally good reviews (if you don't want to go for a very expensive name).. I have 6 cars, and like using Carplay, and I like the factory radios in most of my cars so I chose a seperate 7 inch Carplay screen I can take with me in whichever car I take that day. Connects wirelessly and I mount it with a magnetic mount, so really easy. Sound connects through a built-in FM transmitter or through AUX in. Thios is the one i bought:

Ive seen the various double din units, but I liked the OEM adjacent look of this with the two volume *****.
Ive looked at the portable type and it would be a good solution, because you can leave the system stock and mount it high for better visibility. But then you have a giant device on your dash/windshield that isnt very attractive.
I am looking at the Atoto and BOSS units. I don't need a big name and from what I have read, both of these brands are fairly decent. I also want to have built in Navigation, as I don't like using my phone if I don't have to. For less than $400 I think either of these units can get me to where I need to be and fit nicely in the console space. Plus, 7 small letters at the top on the bezel and it would look factory. I even think the BOSS unit I am looking at has an actual volume **** !!
