OK, does the FabSpeed intake replace the OEM paper filter with a cone K&N type of oiled filter?

You can cap it and leave the internal muffler in the air box or you can use some plumbing parts to cap the hole left behind.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have OCD when it comes to modifications and was not happy with the red intake that comes with most kits. I found the black intake on ebay and here it is.

I'm sure there are plenty of debates on whether this makes power or not in the forums. It definitely makes more noise which I like by eliminating the air flow to the muffler in the airbox. There discussions on how to accomplish that for almost free. Being able to remove the muffler in the airbox makes sense to me as does smoothing out the intake tube. From Fabspeed's website: 25% better Airflow = More Power Any 996 with JUST the COLD AIR performance enhancement kit installed will make any 996 with STOCK mufflers sound as if you have added a mild performance exhaust. Perfect for any 996 owner that wants his car to sound slightly more aggressive than stock. Finest true hi-performance COLD-AIR intake system available. Adds 1.5 Liters cold air by eliminating muffler in airbox. This allows engine to draw cold air across entire topside of air box (left and right rather than just from the right). .42 seconds faster acceleration 3000-6000 RPM. 4 ply silicone tube - better flow from airbox to throttle body. No C.E.L. light as you retain the factory MAF plastic screen/grill to straighten out airflow.

POST 4Original post

Maybe I'm not seeing it. It looks like a stock intake. The fab speed intake is a cone filter with a heat block.

POST 7Original post

Yes. Sorry, I have a different fabspeed set up for my 996.

POST 8Original post

Couldn't you just block the smaller tube to the left with a plug inside the box? Seems a whole lot less expensive than a new FabSpeed intake.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You can cap it and leave the internal muffler in the air box or you can use some plumbing parts to cap the hole left behind. But the extra $100 to do it right and make it look professional was the right choice for me.

POST 10Original post

OK, does the FabSpeed intake replace the OEM paper filter with a cone K&N type of oiled filter? Is the OEM AirBox basically left alone, just plugged? I am curious about this. I would like to have some more growl in my 911, mine just purrs.
