Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Morning all. Just looking for some advice on which CTEK charger I should buy for a 2007 997 GT3 . Would this one be OK? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000RHWCNY/ref=... Cheers all

POST 2Original post

That one will be fine. I'm sure mine didn't cost as much as £60 though.

POST 3Original post

Ring CTEK directly - they were very helpful when i talked to them last week about a trickle charger for my car Tel : 0845 838 1200

POST 4Original post

Looks the same as mine - works fine, no probs. Its also the same as the rebranded one in Porsche's own tequipment catalogue...

POST 5Original post

I've used one of these for years, excellent bit of kit and was fine for my old 997.1 GT3... Always good to have a choice g http://www.amazon.co.uk/Accumate-6v-12v-Battery-Ch...

POST 6Original post

Good charger/conditioner. Available on eBay for £45!

POST 8Original post

The one you get from Aldi/Lidl for less than twenty squids, it's just as good

POST 9Original post

Are you planning on trickle charging via the cigarette lighter socket ? If so, you'll need to buy it separately (not too expensive)

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all your replies chaps. Roadrunner, I am planning on charging the battery directly via the terminals. The one I linked to on my initial post has been ordered now, thanks again all

POST 11Original post

I'm using the same one for my car, for convenience though I also use the cigarette lighter and just run the lead in throught the passenger window. It does mean the CTEK unit is sat either on the dash or on the passenger seat which initially concerned me as it does heat up but it does not appear to be a problem.

I just plug the CTEK I at the wall, lie the unit on the floor of the garage and run the 12v lead in under the door. I.e lay it over the seat and shut the door.

LOL I'm sure my lead for the 12v cigarette socket isn't long enough to reach out of the car onto the floor? I'm at work today but you can guess what I will be checking as soon as I get home tonight!

Buy the battery charger from Lidl. It's about £14

POST 15Original post

POST 16Original post

Aldi have them in this week. - the Lidl ones work just as well but the Aldi one has an LCD voltage readout (which most of the Ctek ones don't even have), useful for seeing how low the battery has got. I have about 8 Aldi ones and 6 Lidl ones and 1 Ctek, had them for years now and all do the same job.

POST 17Original post

I have fitted a permanent power take off tail from the battery running through a 10Amp fuse. I have a matching connector on the battery charger. When the vehicle is going to be unused for a few days or more I connect it up to the charger and leave the boot lid open on its first catch. By comparison I have two Toyota vehicles which were recently left unstarted for 10 weeks. They both fired up first time. The 996 battery last about 10 days, even though it is a larger than spec.

POST 18Original post

Close the door on the lead and sit the charger in its plastic packaging tray on the garage floor......

POST 19Original post

So what would warrant the use of a trickle charger. How many days of not starting the car, a week? 2 months?

POST 20Original post

PowerMalc said: So what would warrant the use of a trickle charger. How many days of not starting the car, a week? 2 months? In my experience 2 weeks is a good guideline. It will of course go longer than that, but that is roughly the point where you become aware that the battery isn't in ideal shape. IMHO

POST 21Original post

Am looking for same........ which Ctek is best (seems to be alot of models) Are all the Ctek adapters for cigarette lighter sockets a generic fit ? TIA

POST 22Original post

The '3600' is popular (several threads on 911uk.com regarding models). I've been using mine for three years without any issues.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
