POST 1Original post

Sounds amazing. I just shipped out a stock exhaust to Cantrellmotorsports for Carnewal mod. Can wait till it gets here.

POST 2Original post

This is excellent! Sounds really good. Any drone at any range even if minimal?

POST 3Original post

Wow! Nice job on cleaning up the exhaust. As you have already known, those came from Chicago. Even though I didn't drive in the snow, I even avoided driving in the rain, and yet those exhausts got mighty corroded. Do post a pic after the installation.

POST 4Original post

Chitown388, I know I have thanked you already, but I have to do it ONE MORE TIME, Cuz about 10 minutes ago I got a chance to go mount the tires and drop it off the lift. Yea, I started it for the first time. No YouTube video or smartphone recording can do that sound justice. Admittedly it was amplified a bit in the shop but I was wide-eyed when it lit up. I got out and stood behind it and when it dropped from the high-idle to normal, that low gurgle is just wonderful. And since it wasn't good and warmed up (oil), I refrained from rapping it up, but I did do a few whips to 3000. What a difference from the oem chokehold! I'm not normally affected by exhaust sound as most, but I unabashedly am willing to admit that sound reaches your nerves. In a good way. Here's a before/after per your request. I expect after a few heat cycles the mufflers will get a nice gold patina? (car is filthy from the shop dust and wet weather) Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 5Original post

Ah... so glad the Carnewal stirred your soul. The dual-tip looks great too! So glad that my Carnewal found a home with you.

POST 6Original post

Nothing that I consider drone really. If you try to get on it from a high gear @ 2k or something, it's a little hollow, but nothing like Tubi and well in the daily driver comfort zone.

POST 7Original post

If what I have read that there is no obvious cut and weld after the Carnewal exhaust is right, it was probably done by cutting a hole on the inside pipe using an extended shaft die grinder (the grinder is passed through the 3" long pipe where the exhaust tip connects). Exhaust gas flow will be closer to the T tips. If this is true, anyone can do it for fraction of the price using die grinder (Chicago Electric $47 from Harbor Freight ) with $15 dual cut carbide burr. I was actually contemplating this route on my Cayman 981 but I hope I'll get a PSE soon.

POST 8Original post

I looked every square inch over pretty good while cleaning the exhaust up. (with wire wheels and heavy duty drill) I admit that I didn't see any scars from cutting/welding, except what looked like what would have been original manufacturing. But that doesn't mean that they don't have some method for opening the original seam and then close it back up? Regardless, $650 is pretty inexpensive for anything Porsche , especially considering the results. Not to mention I would just be guessing with those harbor freight tools in my hand. POST 9Original post

Snakebitten—I was curious about your muffler cleaning procedure? Would you be willing to elaborate on your process? I’m waiting for my mufflers to get back from Cantrell and I want them to look as good as yours before I remount them!

POST 10Original post

It was way simpler than you might think. First, I got a really comfortable chair to sit in for a few hours. Then I put a work-top at the right height and put some cardboard on it as a non-slip surface. Grabbed a heavy duty ½" drill and a couple of fresh wire wheels. Nothing fancy. Cheap Harbor Freight ones. The trick for me was to let the wheel and the weight of the drill do the work. Very little pressure on my part. (the metallurgy is different around the catalytic converter, and requires some extra pressure applied by me) RPMs were about 50%. Not slow, not fast. I kept the direction the same for as much as possible, and only went side-grain when required. You can't really see the opposing grain unless you are up close, and I suspect that a few heat cycles will create a fresh golden patina and the grain will be even less visible? Keep a cold drink nearby and just don't be in a hurry. Maybe an hour for each muffler. Then a few minutes on the connector pipe and tip pipe. Good luck Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 12Original post

Thank you, I'm really enjoying it. And nice work on cleaning up that exhaust! I was tempted to by a Sports/Paddle steering wheel but think the first major mod will be an exhaust. Carnewal is on the top of that list. I do wonder if you or anyone else here has any thoughts on Gert Carnewal's comments to me via email: " The GT exhaust works very well with the original tail pipes from the 981 base or S Avoid the X or Y pipes The virus that is knockoff or rebranded Chinese exhaust pieces sold by US companies Just look at how they are designed and you will see that the outgoing diameters of each exhaust are restricted in the area where the pipes come together. With an X-pipe, apart from killing the flow, the sound becomes mellow. " I've asked several ppl who have Soul tips and they are very positive about the build (USA) and design/flow/sound. I am not a huge fan of the single "base" exhaust opening and am leaning towards something different. Gert recommends the 981S over the others with x-design: Tail pipe 981S - Carnewal

POST 13Original post

I believe that the used Carnewal 'd exhaust I purchased came with the Porsche OEM 987.1 S dual tip. It's certainly not an X-pipe. But I too thought that the Soul or Fabspeed X-pipe was supposed to enhance both the flow and the sound of the exhaust . So that's news to me. Regardless of what the facts really are, the Carnewal modification is a great improvement in sound, and the S model tips are a far nicer appearance than the Base cyclops looking tip. (my opinion of course) Edit : I just read the links you provided and it is very interesting that the 981S pipe/tips fit the 987 exhaust . That's great news and you know what you are getting. I'll be on the lookout for some. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 14Original post

The race is on! (Looking around on ebay--they ain't cheap!)

POST 15Original post

I chose a tip from aFe Power that seems to combine elements of the stock dual tips and the X-pipes. I don’t know if it’s amazing or ridiculous, but I like that I haven’t seen anyone else running one and the 4” diameter will fill the bumper cut out beautifully!

POST 16Original post

That definitely looks the oem approach engineering wise. I'm still amazed at how easy it was to hoodwink me into the X-pipe being the better flow. Just goes to show seeing ain't necessarily believing in this day and age. I gotta stop typing now because I'm in a 981 exhaust tip acquisition race with you know who? ^^^^^^ [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 17Original post

It does look OEM-ish. I like it (except maybe the afe logo). If that is true, you sir are not the only one. I've posted in some FB groups etc. and many swear by the FS and Soul tips. I'm still on the fence as to if this is 'fake news'. LOL 🖱 💻⌨ 📱 💰💸

FabSpeed 's take on it: (16) Porsche Boxster/Cayman | Fabspeed Maxflo X-Pipe with Dual Tips vs Others | Review and Explanation - YouTube

POST 19Original post

It's hard not to discern that those claims aren't legitimate. But it's also obvious that Porsche chooses NOT to take that route even on the highest performance version of their flat 6. Fortunately, I am not in a horsepower war on my beloved Boxster. My pursuits are in this order: 1 Reliability (actually possible) 2 Intoxicating handling (Porsche by its nature) 3 Visceral feedback (Sound is in this category, as well as #2, and top-down, and that classic Porsche silhouette, and...... ) So horsepower didn't even make the top 3 Still, having said all that, if I can get a steal on 981 tips, I am going that way. But if I'm going to shell out $500? That Fabspeed kit is what will be going on the car. In the meantime, I'm having a ball with the used Carnewal'd exhaust and Cayman S OEM tips. It's a #3 bonanza! Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 20Original post

^ I like the way you think! Even if I lost a few HP and it sounded better, my butt/brain dyno may be fooled into loving it.

POST 21Original post

I started out being in the market for exhaust tips. Once I realized that the $400 or so would only get me an improvement in appearance, not sound or performance, I moved on to looking into a change of the exhaust system. Nothing crazy, just Cat back. While stumbling around and in and out of many rabbit holes during my research I came upon this product/service. They take a standard exhaust and modify the guts to give it a more robust sound and some HP and TQ increase. I have read a bunch of reviews as well as listened to the sound clips. I believe I am sold!!! I am wondering if anyone has done this and what they think. POST 22Original post

Many folks have done this, search around. I have the Cayman R exhaust in my 987.1 base and Gert has been amazing. Definitely made a huge difference, it’s worth it.

POST 23Original post

Couldn't be happier with Carnewal exhaust from Gert. The sound is pure Porsche .

POST 24Original post

I had it on my 06CS, beautiful sound. Only issue for me was drone @ 2.8k-3k RPM. At highway cruising speed was annoying in long trips. But made great gargle noises and had one of the best sounds.

POST 25Original post

I do not have a Carnewal exhaust but I've been on this form for a very long time and this this catback/mod is almost unanimously agreed to be the best combination of sound, minimum drone and cost. No one has ever reported that they regretted getting it.

POST 26Original post

Does a totally drone free exhaust upgrade (apart from PSE ) exist?

POST 27Original post

I’ve had my Carnewal exhaust for about five years now. Best money spent on a mod ever. At steady cruising speed there should be no drone with this exhaust mod, but when you have a load on the engine (climbing a hill for example) it will drone some. My philosophy on exhaust systems is that they should amplify the nature of the engine and should not be loud for loud’s sake. The Carnewal nails that IMO. The beauty of the the mod is that you retain the stock muffler (appearance) but you have a more free flowing system with just enough sound amplification to make you smile.

POST 28Original post

I went down probably a similar rabbit hole, ended up with the Carnewal and couldn't be happier. Sound is awesome and not too loud. I did the end pipe modification with mandrell bends posted on Planet-9 and have twin pipes like I couldn't afford.

POST 29Original post

Loved the carnival exhaust . Loud but not too loud. Zero drone. Sold the car 2yrs after installing, but kept the Carnewal exhaust . If you have a 987.1 and interested in getting one for half the price from me, let me know.

POST 30Original post

I'm interested, can pm or email [email removed] - thanks, Bob

POST 31Original post

Exactly what I'm looking for for my "new" 2014 981 Cayman. I suppose adding Soul x tips would also be a plus if not only for looks.

POST 32Original post

Hello, I had quite a few contacted me for my Carnewal GT Exhaust . Instead of juggling with PM everyone separately, I want to throw the following out there: Cantrell is selling it for $1400 + shipping. I will sell it for $500 + shipping or best offer. Here are some pics for my 987.1 Carnewal GT exhaust : Car - Porche 987.1 Carnewal Exhaust I also have a dual-tip tailpipe for this exhaust. I don't know the going price for such an item. How about $100 + shipping or best offer? Here are some pics of the dual-tip tailpipe: Car - Porsche 987.1 Dual Tips Exhaust If you are interested, I will let it go to the first best offer for each of those two items. I no longer need these items. I hope they will find a home with a fellow Porsche 987. Thank you for your interest!

POST 33Original post

Hello, I had just accepted an offer from a Planet-9 member. So the exhaust is no longer available. Thanks to those who were interested in my 987.1 Carnewal GT exhaust.

POST 34Original post

Well, I'll be installing a Carnewal modified exhaust tomorrow. It's officially the first job that will be performed on my new LIFT! I waited until I am 63 for my first Porsche , and my first lift. Both of which have me scratching my head for why I waited so long. I love that little 2.7 flat6. But it sounds like somebody is holding their hand over its mouth when it's singing. Can't wait to hear it with a cleared throat.

POST 35Original post

Nice! I am jealous of your garage and the lift. My current garage is a small 2-car garage, so it's nowhere near as spacious as yours. And I am in the process of downsizing as part of being an empty nester. So my future garage will be smaller yet. If I have a lift like yours, I'd probably hang out there with a six-pack and tinker with a car all day long. Good lucks with the installs. Those exhaust bolts tend to be rusted and sieged up, a blow torch will be required if that's the case.

POST 36Original post

Thank you Chitown388! I'll be armed with the right tools and some extra hardware. The garage is really my barn. And it has a guest house built into the front portion. About 11 acres and in the middle of nowhere. Raised my family here. I've added dwellings as the years went by and offered them to the kids in an effort to keep my grandkids close to Pawpaw. I currently have 6 of the little ones running wild daily. It's an adventure.

POST 37Original post

YouTube video of 987.2 with FVD Headers w/200-cell HJS cats, Carnewal mod, Soul X-pipe I’ve been extremely happy with the Carnewal system. Best sounding system I’ve seen. I’ve had 987.1 stock, 987.1 Tubi, 987.2 stock, 987.2 Tubi, 987.2 Carnewal and I’m staying put.

POST 38Original post

@ELCID86 back at you with the congratulations. Wow, what a beautiful first Porsche! So I was expecting a wrestling match with those exhaust flange nuts based on many posts and a few youtube vids. But I soaked them with PB for a couple of hours before attempting to breaking them loose and 5 of the 6 popped free without hassle. The one that didn't was so corroded that the 13mm socket was too big, but by the smallest margin. (I only let it slip one time) I put a 6-point ½" on it just to see if the slightly smaller socket would bite better. Worked like a charm. The used Carnewal exhaust must have been from a higher mileage car, and/or a different climate. It's very solid, but lots of surface corrosion. I'm in no rush, so I decided to buff them with a wire brush to see if they would clean up. A little shot of before/after below. I'm really enjoying working on this car and discovering how it is put together. The exhaust hanger design is simple but elegant. Very well done. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 39Original post

Years ago I was fortunate to come across a Cayman R based Carnewal GT for sale by a P9 member who also happened to live nearby. Super nice fellow, he actually brought it over, and I love the exhaust to this day.

POST 40Original post

I don't think I'm going to be able to resist taking my exhaust off during winter storage and sending it off to get this done.

POST 41Original post

For the expense, I just don't think it's possible to be disappointed. Today was the first time since I put the exhaust on that I could get it out on the road. (weather has been wet and because of my gravel road being turned into MUD by a pipeline company using it temporarily, I couldn't take the Porsche or the Mazdarati for the last 3 weeks) Anyways, as happy as I was with the coldstart sound and the enclosed barn feedback, it doesn't even compare to the 3000-6900rpm wromp through first and second gear. Topdown echo off the tree lined roads was amaaaaaazing. It now sounds like a Porsche . Which as we all know, is what only a Porsche can sound like. Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 42Original post

I've had a Carnewal muffler on my 987.2 Boxster Base for over three years. It is without a doubt one of my favorite mods and in my opinion was worth every penny. SilentMike

POST 43Original post

I put the Carnewal mufflers on my 987.2 Cayman S a couple of months ago and have a couple thousand miles on them. Cantrell Motorsports was great to work with. Took my old exhaust to them in Bellevue and swapped them for the modded ones. Removal/install was relatively easy. I really like the mod. Sounds great when I want it to without the drone during everyday driving. Highly recommend!

POST 44Original post

I just mounted my Carnewal GT with the aFe Power tips and I could not be more pleased. No drone, a quieter cabin and just the right kind of sound on hard acceleration. I am 100% satisfied!

POST 45Original post
