POST 1Original post

Actually already been discussed and in the works. We've been collecting volunteers and we will organize a nice exhaust composium. Exhaust sound and even resonance is highly subjective, so having folks vote on their favorite is likely to be a futile excersize. I am pretty confident that there is a customer for every systems, if that wasn't the case then there wouldn't be so many choices in exhaust.

POST 3Original post

Gator Bite, it all sounds fun. Great job as usual.

POST 4Original post

Glad I checked these! Thanks, Gator and all contributors, for this! The idea of having the MSRP (including installation?) would be a nice addition. Since I'm not planning on taking my new baby to the track, and we have a quiet neighborhood with a sound ordinance, the stock exhaust will do me just fine. The last thing I need is a home owner's assoc complaint when I have to "race" to work in the middle of the night!

POST 5Original post

Does anyone know if the Borla system will pass at laguna seca? They have a 92db limit. Thanks

POST 6Original post

Gator i see award number 9 going your way bud, that is an ace idea and i have now pissed off my work collegues with 10 clips of Caymans blasting about. Although the capristo on K-man-S car doesnt play well over my speakers very raspy.:banana::beer: James

POST 7Original post

Thanks Gator +1 I'd like to see a sticky on this as well. Gator, since you have the Borla , I notice when its coming down from high revs to idle it makes a kind of light sputtering/buzzing sound, is this normal? just camera mic distortion? The OEM exhaust doesn't seem to do this.

POST 8Original post

It makes gasping/sucking sound when it's coming down. The camera microphone does seem to exagerate it, but it does make this sound. In person it actually sounds a little mean because it's mixed in with a low frequency rumble.

POST 9Original post

Great job Gator. I know vids don't always do exhaust system's justice but I have to admit, the Sharkwerks Remus vid is the hottest for me.

POST 11Original post

Thanks for doing this. I really like the Remus sound based on the clips... I did not expect that. With Borla being my 2nd favorite.

POST 12Original post

Remus and Borla are so similar, it would have been good to hear the remus drive the way GB has in his video for a proper comparison. I am still a Borla lad, it sounds like a 'rarri to me. J

POST 13Original post

Update..... Video added for AWE. Check it out .

POST 14Original post

Indeed, SharkWerks' video is out of his world! I definately recommend calling these guys if you're in their area!

POST 15Original post

Wow. Very nice spine tingling video.....! Question for you. Does that car have a lightweight flywheel? Is sounds like it's spinning up very fast.

POST 16Original post

Just watched the video too, very nice sound. At the beginning it says it has the lightweight flywheel, evo intake, ecu tuning, and PSS9's (think that was it).

POST 18Original post

More Capristo video Here's another bit of video of K-Man S's Capristo at the track recently. (Please excuse the shaky camera work - I forgot to turn on the steady cam and was still suffering the adrenalin after-effects from my run session. )

POST 19Original post

POST 20Original post

Dat vid is da bomb! Where is the other track pass?

POST 21Original post

GB..you are the man with the plan...thanks for everything you did.by the way considering the 20 hp increase with the borla exhaust ,did you feel any extra push or torque in any rpm range?.i like the sound of the borla better it sound like a cross between a porsche and f430.

POST 22Original post

I chose the Remus because I like the sound compared to Capristo and the others. I asked three people where one of them owns an M3 , one of them knows nothing about cars, and one of them is an Integra type R owner. Of all the sound clips sampled here, they chose the Remus. They said the Capristo is too raspy in sound. To each his own.

POST 23Original post

Choosing exhausts from web sound clips is kind of like choosing a house based on pictures on a real estate site - it might show you "something" but it certainly isn't an accurate depiction of the exhaust in person. None of the sound clips I've heard here ever match what I've heard when listening to the exhaust in person. If you REALLY want some exhaust experience come to Croctoberfest where we are going to have an exhaust shoot out!

POST 24Original post

Exactely. Although clips will give you some idea.

POST 25Original post

Maybe of sound volume, but tone and pitch are never the same, nor is feel...

POST 26Original post

Definitely a very noticable difference with both the Borla and the AWE, especially in the 5,000-7,000 range. With the stock exhaust, you can feel something holding the engine back starting at 5,000 RPMs. With the Borla or AWE, you risk hitting the rev limiter until you get used to new engine feel because it spins so much more freely up top. Agreed. And though the Remus video is one of the best sounding clips here, one should consider that it's a very well produced video and the car that it's on has some radical modfications that will make the car sound different than a stock Cayman with an exhaust.

POST 27Original post

I was at Laguna Seca this past Friday with the BMW club, and did not get black-flagged for sound. I drive a 2.7 with the Borla exhaust (along with the Softronic SRP and P3 software), and was first shortshifting to 4th at the exit of 5, but later on used 3rd to redline. My impression is that higher-frequency sound is what they're worried about as people have gotten flagged for intake sounds. Interestingly, a bone-stock ZR-1 was flagged for sound, while a stock GT3 RS with pipes to redirect the exhaust towards track left, away from the sound booth, did not. --Andre

POST 28Original post

that's what i'm talking about... VERY helpful. i loved the sound of the AWE, REMUS and 9ff. looks like nobody bothers to make a tip that contours the spoiler opening... too bad, but not the end of the world. this is great, thank you.

POST 29Original post

Here is a video with the TPC exhaust . All sound was recorded in the interior of the car so it is not as loud as it really would be. Absolutely no resonance with the TPC exhaust . TPC turbo

POST 31Original post

I kept watching for the neighbors to run out during the Capristo clip . . . . it sounds like a Federal Signal Air Raid Siren. YouTube - Livonia, MI Federal Signal 2001 DC Tornado Siren Test 3-1-08

POST 32Original post

This thread gets two thumbs up!!! *sigh* I wish I could hear the Borla and AWE in person. I can't decide on which one to buy.

POST 34Original post

That is what I was originally leaning towards but the AWE sounds good too. I didn't want to buy one or the other based on sound clips but I simply may not have a choice. If it was based solely on the AWE produced video I wouldn't even consider it because I listen to theirs and it sounds almost stock. Then you listen to GB's and it's like a totally different exhaust. I like the in-your-face exhaust note of the Borla but the AWE has a sophisticated sound to it that I think is more Porsche... if that makes any sense? So I'm torn and uncertain.

POST 35Original post

Although not really just an exhaust , you cannot forget the exhaust note from the TPC Cayman Turbo. Mike spent countless hours developing the exhaust note for the car to make sure it was not irritating. However this clip was filmed on an iPhone so the sound quality has been compromised, but we're all listening to it on a computer speaker so I can't imagine it makes a huge difference.

POST 36Original post

sound is nice, but what I really want to understand if ANY of these systems truly improve power, throttle response, or low-end torque over the stock system. I have read in a few threads where all of these systems really yield no improvement over the Porsche factory exhaust . Anyone know where there is really good emperical data that shows what power benefits come from any of these systems at the rear wheels on an otherwise stock CS Mine is de-snorked with the ubiquitious low restriction air filter)? I have been tempted to replace my system simply because many of the aftermarket systems are lighter, but i don't want to take the performance in the wrong direction with an exhaust system that wants a new intake, etc in order to do anything for me. thoughts/comments?

POST 37Original post

miati1769. Most of these systems do show some improvement in power. The borla has been dyno'd showing 20whp increase. However it's hard to notice a huge difference when your driving your car with only a slight horsepower increase (like 20 horsepower). Realistically you need at least 30 or more horses added before you will really notice a difference of any kind. Same goes for saving weight. Every little bit helps, but it normally takes quite a large weight loss to really notice any difference in how your car is handling, braking, or accelerating.

I like the sound of FVD exhaust . Sounds soo great, very similar to an GT3 . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQCZLEVIjQ0

POST 44Original post

The FVD/speedART/M&M does sound nice. I have one (export/sound version) on my car and I do like it. But I can't deny that the Borla still has my heart for the best sound. Here's a video that wasn't meant to be a sound comparison video, but it works. In this video you can hear my Cayman S being driven by my wife at 1:12 and 1:48, accelerating away from the camera. You'll also see Pistol Pete's FVD/speedART/M&M equipped car at 2:20, passing another Cayman . And another at 2:35. Compare that sound to the Borla equipped 2.7 liter Cayman at 1:24 and 2:00 and it's a hands down win to the Borla , in my opinion.

POST 45Original post

:hilarious: very funny vid! thanks for sharing. The black cayman at 1:26 is also running Borla?

POST 46Original post

Yes. That's the Borla . It sounds so disticnt. I think next spring I'll put mine back on.

I'll be surprised if you actually wait that long to change it...you're WAY overdue for an exhaust swap (and a tip polishing, for that matter!) :taunt:

That sounds great! What is the cost on this system. I didn't see it on their site nad they haven't responded to my email yet. Did you install it yourself?

POST 84Original post

Thanks for the compliment! And I agree, really like the sound they came up with. It's not obnoxiously loud to me but still very aggressive and very porsche-like in my opinion. Really fits the car. I paid $2100 I think, not counting tax or installation. And no, i had them install it. Not sure how hard it would be though, but for me, didn't want to mess around based on my abilities.. haha

Any vids of just the Capristo catback with stock headers & cats. All the Capristo vids I found are of the full system (catback, headers , race cats). Interested in getting just the catback, but wondering how different would it sound compared to the full system that I see in all the vids.

POST 94Original post

At one point during dyno testing I actually had factory exhaust manifolds fitted up to the capristo catback exhaust. I didn't really notice any sound difference once the Capristo headers were installed. I don't think headers really impact sound that much or at all. My first choice would be the Capristo, but at $4k I think I'll buy a Borla for ~ $1400. Excellent thread! :thanks:

POST 98Original post

The Borla seems to be the choice for extra sound overall, however, it reportedly drones. Something to consider if that bothers you. Capristo is drone free. I also appreciate the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the thing. Stock quiet when desired and loud when you want it. Beautifully made. Watch for a group buy. Nick is great to deal with.

Fabspeed Motorsports designed the Maxflo Muffler and Race Exhaust for the new Porsche 981 Boxster S. Here is a sound comparison between the two which also features the OEM exhaust . The stock headers are installed in all three setups.

POST 101Original post

Hi, Awesome thread. I think I have visited this at least 3 times. I am planning on getting an exhaust for my Boxster . I have NHP catless headers now. What exhaust systems still keep the secondary cats? I know there is a Borla cat back system. I do not want a full race set up, so any help would be great. I have emailed Nello at Maxspeed to see what his suggestion is. I have purchased a Softronics flash and do not want the cel light on. Thanks Miles

POST 102Original post

Just so you know APR exhausts are all made by BB (Billy Boat)

POST 103Original post

Here's a comparison of the exhausts I have had: http://youtu.be/--JCZhlPQYc Hope it helps anyone shopping for some pipes!

POST 104Original post

Has anyone done a comparison of the performance improvement for the various exhaust choices?

POST 105Original post

Now that my exhaust has "settled" and I have added the IPD Competition plenum to the mix I made a short clip of the totally AWESOME sound my car has. No drone at all, and rather quiet....until you step on it that is . Impatient ones might want to skip to 0:38. Car is a 2009 CS with Carnewal GT exhaust, IPD Comp plenum, 82mm TB, BMC filter and desnorked. The sound this car produces is highly addictive!

I just put on an agency power exhaust on my boxsterS. Absolutely love it and I got it new for around $800 on amazon . Great deal, great exhaust .

POST 108Original post

Installed a Borla on my Boxster , it is much quieter than I was expecting it to be. After watching all the videos and reading countless threads about the system I thought it would be much louder than it really is. The db comparison test on this site is very misleading when trying to determine how loud an exhaust truly is. I just sold my Ducati which had a MotoGP style Akrapovic exhaust rated at 113db that was easily more than twice as loud as this Borla is, not half as loud as the test numbers would lead me to believe. A little disappointed at first because I was expecting a bit more roar from this exhaust but I do like the mellowed out sound of it. The Borla is very easily a DD exhaust without being too loud at all, it is rather mild in the sound department, just deeper toned.

Re: Non Sponsors Chief, great compilation. Drove me to the Borla system, installed it, love it!!!

POST 110Original post

Re: Non Sponsors I think I am more confused than ever after reading and listening. I decide on one only to change my mind next time through to a different one. Have an 09 CS with stock system that sounds way too calm.

POST 113Original post

Let me tell you if you are concerned with drone this is your exhaust !! There is zero drone at all Rpms. It sounds like a little bit more aggressive sport or r exhaust . I love it!!! i will get a video clip of it up as soon as I can get someone to record it for me.

Nice sound clip! Where can I find this exhaust online to buy. And will it fit a 987.2 Boxster S? Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 via Tapatalk

POST 117Original post

Just got a 987.2 Boxster S (2010) and looking for an exhaust , one with the least drone. What do other boxster owners have? Thought of Tubi, Fabspeed , and Capristo, but Capristo is so Damn expensive. And Tubi ain't cheap either! Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 via Tapatalk

POST 118Original post

Anyone found an exhaust that sounds a bit more high pitch or..."exotic"? Many of them make it deep and rumbly...

POST 119Original post

In my searches, Tubi seemed to be the highest in pitch; seems to fit their general Ferrari feel.

POST 121Original post

It's amazing how many exhaust offerings there are for the Cayman . As many of you know, I recently tested a system and during that test many people were begging for a sound clip video, so I made one. After posting that video to you tube I did a little searching to compare my production to others. That's when I was blown away to learn that there are soooooo many exhuast sound clips on you tube, and many of them featuring Caymans . I thought it might be a good idea to centralize a collection of Exhaust Sound Clip Videos in one thread. So here goes. First I'd like to list the site sponsors in alphabetic order. Suggestion: You will get a much more accurate representation if you have external speakers with a sub-woofer. Many systems deliver a rich low frequency rumble. You will never hear this through laptop speakers. APR (placeholder - no YouTube video at this time) AWE Borla Capristo Fabspeed Milltek Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) Remus

POST 124Original post

Cool. Glad you like the idea. Any chance we can get an AWE and APR owner to upload a sound clip to YouTube? Volunteers? Anyone? Beuller......?

POST 125Original post

Gator Bite, Ken uploaded a video of the AWE exhaust onto the site in .mpg format a long time ago and it's still in the files section (labeled 'stock vs. milltek vs. awe', 3 mpg files zipped); with his permission I could (or you could... or anybody...) upload it to youtube and embed it into this post. - Suneet

Capristo Sound Clip II This Capristo video clip gives a better idea of sound. It's loud....

POST 129Original post

The B&B and APR are going to sound the same, they are the same system. The only thing about this is the quality of the camera that was used. Also the quality of speakers the person is using. Those two factors really determin the sound over the computer I think. But I love the idea, I have searched and searched for something just like this thread! So thank you for taking the time!

POST 130Original post

Thanks Gator Bite, I think that almost put my wife over the edge and an ok to purchase soon. Hmmmm, let me see if I can get that uploaded to her IPOD so she can hear it when she exercises

POST 131Original post

Thank you Gator Bite. Borla will be my next mod.

Great idea Gator! Capristo, Remus and Tubi is the s#$%!!!!

POST 136Original post

I was thinking that the Club should have a CS exhaust shoot out at the next Croctober Fest. Maybe find a club volunteer for as many diff exhaust systems as possible, and then have all of the attending Croctober Fest members vote their choices. It would be a fun event for everyone. And we could also have a couple of willing members do a scored test for resonance or droning for each exhaust as well, as the car is being driven.

POST 137Original post

Bodhii.. Good Idea And the winner gets a Softronic Flash ? Or a clear Engine Cover !!! Heck I will Drill some holes in My REMUS for that !!

POST 139Original post

Excellent work on this Gator. I just went through them all and I think I am going to get rid of my Milletek and go with the Capristo. I think the Millitek is holding some power back than the others personally but am trying to do some research to get the truth. Drew
