Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

The shifter feel on my 2007 Cayman 5-speed (78k miles, bought new), was really getting bad. Rubbery, vague and sloppy feeling. Third gear was a guess, at best. I did tons of research on the solution, Numeric /FF/SSK... I decided to try the FF cable end kit first, with an eye toward the shifter next . Took my time installing the cable ends, and while I was under the car, I removed the "bellcrank" that the ends snap on to. Cleaned it, polished it and re-greased to eliminate any friction. Put it all together and when for a spin. Wow! What an improvement! Brought the "rifle-bolt" feel back, eliminated the vagueness and made shifting much more Miata -like. I will not be replacing the shifter for the time being, Very happy! If you are looking for a way to improve the shifter, start here...
