But since I am going to change mine to clear LEDs soon, make it so that I can change the shirt to match.

If you buy the 996 t-shirt, you have to replace the tag for an aftermarket?

I'm sure I'll need a minimum order run for shirts, too.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

No, I'm not asking what to wear when I drive my car.
Every few months I like to buy a new Porsche t-shirt. Also, since my wife is horrible at gift-giving, it helps to provide her with pre-approved, N-rated options. So, what's out there on the market that you think is cool?
Let's see some pics and preferably a source to buy the shirt from. Since the Hanes Beefy T is the bane of my existence, extra credit if the shirt is in a soft feel or performance material.
I'll start: here's one out of the UK that I found on eBay. Auftragwhateverthehell is apparently German for "project number" (according to the seller). Unfortunately it looks like this one is printed on the ubiquitous aforementioned "Beefy T" (material that is one step above a burlap bag IMHO).

KC, I think you and I are on opposite sides of this one ... IMO, T shirts ought to be 100% cotton. That synthetic "performance," soft-feel stuff is way too hairdresser.
Nice 996tt, though :-)
Let me amend that. If by "my" you mean as a gift to one of your lovely avatar models, then by all means post early and often
If by "my" you indeed mean yours, then GTFO!

This is my only non-PCA Porschewear, though I only wear it when not driving the Porsche.
Wearing a Porsche shirt in your Porsche is like wearing the t-shirt of the band you're going to see...

I have a full head of hair, so I don't, you know, do hats. But thanks for posting your hat stuff in my t-shirt thread.
Me likey.
Me likey even more (it sez "turbo")
Groov, you've aged a little since your last photo. Glad to see that you and your old lady (literally) are enjoying your golden years though.
Like the shirt. Unfortunately I am prone to be this guy:

Otherwise...well, not really authentic, is it?
Count me in for one and post pictures, if available. Thanks.
That will all depend on if you get the early double stitched or later single stitched variant.
I do hear, however, that there is a rolled thread upgrade, but you'll need to drill out the old thread first while the hat is on your head.
The 996 hat design is in its preliminary stages, and is open to suggestions.
Hera's the artwork I drew up for my 914 hats, and what the final products look like. High quality low-profile cotton hats with adjustable bands . I hate those plastic/foam cheapo "trucker" style hats.
Raw artwork:
Embroidered hats (note: These are my first two prototypes. When I went to production, I had the artwork rescanned in higher resolution, so the final embroidery is is better detail than on these two. I didn't take new pix though. Also, I switched to Royal Blue thread for the car outline on the tan hats.
Here's very roughly what I am thinking for 996 hats.... just the white part of the image (not the blue background) and the numbers. Open to suggestions.
I can't find it quickly, but there was a logo for the GT3 Cup racing that looked similar to your 914 design, that would be cool.
I think the one shown puts too much on the hat. Your 914 design is much more elegant.
Two things, reflecting some of the immediately prior comments:
1. Yes, as depicted, the tires are a bit 'low rider'. Perhaps a broader ring, set lower relative to the vehicle?
2. A larger '996' as background, with the vehicle silhouette in front of it might be both compact and appealing.
You are, however the experienced designer; not us. Keep us posted.
Yeah, I'm not very happy with the wheels/stance either. I have a few different concepts I'm playing with. Maybe just a simple profile similar as to the 914 design, but then you really can't tell it from a 993/997, etc.
Well, the 996 is simply the 993 shape with evolutionary improvements to it. In other words, the 996 design is simply the 993 shape . . . made better.
(There, that ought to do it. Quad will be here any minute now yelling at us 996 punks to get off his lawn)
That's better, but I see what you mean. Maybe that's too much definition of the headlights? Feels more 997 to me.
How about either a wing on the rear or raise the spoiler for a bit more definition? I know the Taco wing isn't popular with every one, but the 'C' profile is very 996 specific.
I can make the "996" bigger.
Also, there isn't really an "official" font to use for the 996 logo like on the 914. I played with a ton of fonts, and I think the one in the pic above is good, but open to suggestions.
For the font, wouldn't you use the same as the 911 badge for the 40th cars? I like what you have though. Seems "right" since there is no official 996 logo.
Alrighty, then. Definitely 996 lights, enlarged the 996 lettering, moved it up a bit, and gave it more slant. No confusion now. So, how many hat orders do we have?
Is that like summoning Moloch from the underworld?
Is there a specific incantation or combination of words, like "996...better...than 991", or some such?
Cuda, the newest iteration you presented is appealing and elegant. You could probably sell about 1000 of the 'fried egg' variant at Porsche events, however. Largely to the 991 and 997 group, one suspects.
Alrighty, then. I'll post up a new thread soon with details. I will need at least 50 hat orders to make it work.
Hopefully the mods here are OK with that? I sold the 914 hats on 914World and Facebook.
Cuda - How's about doing a t-shirt with the same design? Black t-shirt (you know, slimming for us full-figured gals), grey car outline, red 996 numbers.
When I finish the design, I'll check with my embroidery guy. I think he does silk screen T-shirts too.
The tough thing about shirts for me is keeping track of each person's size for the orders. I'm sure I'll need a minimum order run for shirts, too.
Haven't chosen colors. First, I will need to post a new thread and see if there is enough interest for at least 50 hats.
I'll probably go Navy Blue for the hats, like in my 914 hats (see above in this thread). For the car... hmmm.. Guards Red?
It will need to contrast with the hat color. I'm thinking red for the 996 font.
Anyway, give me a week or two to get things sorted out before I post a new hat thread (and maybe T-shirts too). I'm trying to line up a new vendor to do the work. The last guy did a great job, but took way longer than promised, and his lack of communication regarding the progress was very annoying. I have a good lead on a better vendor, but I have to get pricing info.
Hey, thanks all for the input during the design, guys. Some great suggestions. My first design sucked big time, quite pleased with the final one.
If you do a shirt you should check out the Cayenne forum and their shirt thread. Maybe a word jumble of all the parts that cause us pain on the rear
I could see a black hat and red stitching looking sharp.
My vendor guy is up late... trading some emails with him now.
Do you all think there will be enough interest for 50 hats and 50 shirts? I will need to get pre-orders before I get anything made up.
So, they allowed someone on the Cayenne forum to sell T-shirts? I was a bit worried that the RL admins wouldn't allow it. This is for fun, not a business, and barely break even after costs. So I have zero interest in paying to be an RL sponsor.
Design is work. Nothing wrong with your first effort; its a trial&terror process. Been there.
BTW: the owner of the very nicest home in our neighborhood was a union guy from CA who started a 'side business' doing t shirts. Then someone (?nike, o'neil, some skateboard co.) contracted with him. And that is how he built the very, very nice home. In cash.
Keep at it: no telling when you'll come up with that 'million order design'.
Great job Mike
I would vote for black hat and red or white embrodary.
Might be nice to have embrodaried shirts as well, maybe golf shirts.
Next you will need to do a Boxster design
I used to be a cotton snob but I have gotten hooked on the poly sport performance shirts. They're also going to hold the "printing" a lot better/longer. Just sayin'
If it wasn't grown from the ground or ripped from an animal, it's not worth wearing.

I, for one support the dark blue with red trim. I have no idea why.
OK, I'm working with a new vendor, and you will be able to place T-shirt orders directly from his site. I might be able to do multiple color combos. Still working on that.
I might ship the hats myself, but maybe he can handle that too.
But first, I guess I will need RL permission, since this will be my main (only?) place for sales.
Hmmm... Do I need to ask John?
Cuda911 since I'm a vendor I could help sell them for you, just an idea. I'll even ship them too.
I have a t-shirt/hat place here in KC that does nice work, they're printing up some shirts for me right now.
-Jason
Thanks for the offer, Jason! The vendor I'm using this time is a buddy of mine from 914Wolrd that has a screen printing business, and he's helped me out on stuff in the past, so I want to give him first crack at this project. If the mods shoot me down, I'll see about moving the sales to you.
Alan, that white Esprit in the pic yours?
Yes,
Owned it for a little over 5 years now. Picked it up from a small lot in Santee .
The cabin is small in Esprit's . If you're over 6 feet it's a tight fit . The salesman who took me for a test drive was about 6 ft 4 in. He spent the entire test drive
With his neck bent over and head out the window
I'd like a GT2 Misha style wing added to mine.
Plus side vents.
Plus make it in red.
Plus, blacked out taillights and sidemarkers.
But since I am going to change mine to clear LEDs soon, make it so that I can change the shirt to match.
And please put in a picture of me in the driver's seat.
And hurry up faster.
Thanks.
Looks like the ship has sailed and it's great to get such overwhelming approval on this site. However, just to throw gas on a burning flame, I would prefer it with the silhouette but not the 996 letters. The design itself is just so cool. I know that would make it less distinguishable from other 911's but what the heck.
I hate being late to a party, but I am interested. Not exactly sure what the final design is at this point, once I am clued in, I could be in for a hat and a couple of shirts......maybe one short sleeve, one long sleeve? Black, all the way around, if available......
