Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We invite you to tell your story of why you love your Porsche, and compare it to other performance cars that you've driven (or driven against!). Please include your model (e.g. Boxster S) in the title of your post. R

POST 2Original post

Ok, let me try this. I love my Porsche because: - it is PRECISE. handling. braking. response. It does what I want. Nothing else. Nothing more. - it is beautiful. these curves...mamma mia !!! - it is reliable and a daily driver - people will still turn they head around in 20 years - 987 made the boxster a classic - it's a flat 6 !!!!! - the engine sound comes from back - ...and because i am fan of the brand from childhood... I also drove: (the ones worth mentionning) - Audi TT quattro 225hp Nice but behaves like front wheel drive, and small 4 cylinders with poor noise - Honda S2000 No torque, no pleasant for daily driver, misses 2 cylinders...and is going to be recycled in something else in 20 years - BMW M3 SMGII Fantastic gearbox. Perfect all-year, everywhere, love it. - of course other Porsches, but do they count ? :-) What I do not like with Porsche however: - cayenne looks ugly - no sequential gearbox available. their tiptro is a joke.

POST 3Original post

Perfect handling, mystique of the Porsche marque, and man, it just is a tactile blast!

POST 4Original post

I love my 1997 boxster for the following reasons: 1. It has no rear badge and unique rims ... which causes people (usually folks that are at least 50 or older) to come up to me at gas stations or rest stops and ask "what kind of car is that?" Looks just like a Porsche to me, but apparently, lots of older (no offense to you 50+ readers!) people have not seen one up close and personal. 2. I've updated my interior to a 2002 5 speed shifter and now a 3 spoke wheel, which makes the car look very current. 3. The car is incredibly "cat and mouse" like in light traffic. I can zoom around others and take advantage of the sprint-like responsiveness if I remember to keep it in a lower gear. 4. I drove my Boxster 300 miles this last weekend, and did not get out and say "my back hurts." My '90 Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo and my '86 Toyota MR2 were both really hard on my back. 5. I've dreamed of Porsche ownership since I was 8 years old, and now I own one. I often open my garage door, see the Boxster and think, "I can't believe I own that car." 6. Ditto on the mid engine and flat 6 comment prior to my post. I have never driven or owned such a balanced sports car that is predictable and fast. Even my smallish 2.5 liter engine is quite strong compared to the light weight of the car overall.

POST 5Original post

I have a 1997 with 40k miles. There is nothing obvious about my car that I can say makes it perfect. It's fast, but not that fast. It handles well, but so did my highly modified 325i. It looks fantastic, but even American automakers are starting to make cars that look good. What makes this car perfect is that everytime I get in my car, it makes me smile. It just feels right -- no more, no less. I knew I liked it when I bought it, but now that I've driven it a while and I go to ride in friends' cars, I realize how the Boxster has grown on me even more, and I have no desire to have anything else. I think it says a lot that my dream car (other than something fairly unattainable such as a CGT or 550) is an 04 Boxster S, which in the grand scheme, is not too far off from what I'm driving now. The only downside is that at 22 years old, I have a lot of cars left to buy, and there's not a lot of room for improvement. So it's scary to think what I might be driving when I'm 40 or 50. :-)

POST 6Original post

The 986 is timeless: -7 year old body that still isn't outdated -cat-like reflexes -everyone wants to race me off the line at lights....i let them go, let them wonder...then wait for that curve to catch up -I'm 20, and the older guys at work all go "You drive a Porsche? Damn!" Envy, hate to say it, but its nice -I remember the first time I saw a 911, I was 9. I was in downtown Chicago and one drove past...I knew then that I was going to obsessed. -Ever just look at your car and say "wow, that is a really beautiful car"

POST 7Original post

Dam I should feel angry at your statement about the "old folk" but I am 56 and waited until I was 55 to buy my first Porsche 2003 Boxster S. I always bought the practical car as my father had saddled me with that thought. If it wasn't for my wife I would not have this car today. I originally looked at the Audi S-4 and M-3 when my wife said to me why don't you look at the Porsches that you have always longed? I love the car , Boxster S and it is a machine and an experience that keeps multiplying every day. I use it as a daily driver and people are shocked about that! In NY in the winter Oh my god!. I simply answer I bought to be used not to sit in a garage and collect dust. So young man just think of me when you get old and still driving my Porsche and your scary thoughts should disappear. Just buckle up and enjoy the ride.

POST 8Original post

I am 55, drive motorcycles and Porsches and work out 5 days a week. No ready for the boneyard yet!

POST 9Original post

Why I love my boxster? There are too many reasons, but.... It makes me smile every time I drive it. You can't beat driving to work in the morning with the hood down! It handles beautifully, all the time! I saved every penny for two years before I got mine. I'm now saving for the replacement in two years time. Will it be another Boxster or a 911 cab? Who knows. One things I do know, it will definitely be a Porsche! My colleagues at work all ask me about it, where I got it from, how much it cost and how I like it. They are always amazed when I tell them it is 6 years old already, and how reasonably priced it was. They all want one. I'm addicted to it!

POST 10Original post

"My colleagues at work all ask me about it, where I got it from, how much it cost and how I like it. They are always amazed when I tell them it is 6 years old already, and how reasonably priced it was. They all want one. I'm addicted to it!" This is one of the cooler things about the Box. If you keep it pristine, the 97 looks like the 04 to most folks. Add some 18" wheels and you are off to the Country Club in a 20G car. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

POST 11Original post

Let me give this a try. I love my Boxster because: 1) The handling is absolutely amazing. It handles so well, I can now honestly say that I know what people mean when they talk about the car being an extension of the driver. No other car has given me that feeling. 2) I love twisties! Exhilarating is the only word that I could find to describe the feeling of blasting around corners in this car. 3) It's a Porsche. As has been said many times there is a certain aura of mystique that surrounds Porsche. In LA you seen tons of BMW's or Mercedes on the roads, so much so they stop catching your eye. But a Porsche will still turn heads. Compared to: BMW Z4: My father has an 03 Z4, and while it's a great car in it's own right it just can't measure up. The steering is not nearly as tight or responsive as the Boxster, nor is the handling through the twisties. Also, I don't feel like part of the car while driving it. It's fun to drive, it's just not "exhilarating".

POST 12Original post

...Because it is everything a sports car is meant to be and nothing a sports car is NOT meant to be... It is: A two seat drop-top, the essential component of the Sports Car. The most pure expression of the 'Modern Sports Car' since the introduction of the Miata, itself a pure blood in it's own right. A true Porsche in every sense of the word, and attached to all that heritage. Beautiful; near flawless design Powerful enough, even in base model to constantly deliver fun and excitement while offering a daily driver that forces you to make zero comprimises. Track-bred. Try one out on your local raccing complex and you'll see what I mean. Those who have already know. Fits me like it was made for me alone. The interior layout simply enfolds you and mates you to the machine It is NOT: A truck A four door All show and no go Ugly Harsh A compromising design Fragile Flimsy Cheap Goofy-looking Overly Gadgetized Overly complicated Cost-prohibitive for a good cross-section of enthusiasts Parked in someone else's drive-way

POST 13Original post

Ill just stick with comparisons to other cars, since everyone has already said what is so great about the car Cars I've driven (recently) 2005 Corvette -- Tons of power, okay handling, okay styling, problem was it only felt like a fast version of my '95 Firebird. I was less than blown away. 2005 GTO -- Sounded awesome, drove like a total piece of junk and looks stupid 2005 Pontiac G6 -- I included this because I thought it kicked the pants out of the GTO. Kind of strange. Cars I've ridden in or driven against recently: 2004 MB SLK32AMG -- crazy HP in a small car. Completely destroys my Box off the line (it has the auto tranny that does everything for you), however I start to reel him back in when the speeds go up and the road starts to twist. I’m not crazy about the styling. 2004 WRX -- some how I completely obliterated a friend in his WRX off the line the other day. I’m still trying to figure this one out. I don’t think he had the turbo spooled in time and the lag killed him. My back tires cleared his front bumper before we went under the traffic light. I actually really like this car. It has some sedan usefulness, all wheel drive and is still pretty quick. 2004 RX8 -- I actually love this car. A friend bought one and every time I ride in it I think I like the car more. The back seat is more then large enough for an adult. 1968 GTO -- in a straight line no competition. However any turning of the wheel and he is done for. The Boxster is by far the best looking car of the lot. In my opinion it drives better than any of them too. The Boxster is just everything a sports car / roadster should be. Its tough to beat.

POST 14Original post

One word: THROTTLE RESPONSE ok maybe two... The S puts down %85 of its torque by 2000 RPM's. That's just plain nasty. the other day I had to drive a Toyota Corolla which I hadn't driven since buying the BoxsterS. Wow I thought the Toyo was broken. SOmetime you need to drive a tin can with now power, handling or steering to fully appreciate what Stuggart has engineered.

POST 15Original post

OR a Z4. A buddy just bought one, and convinced me to take a test drive. Took out a 2005 Z4 3.0 w/ 6-speed. My thoughts: Sounds dead. Same dull drone through the entire RPM range. They took the "if it's loud, it'll sound sporty" approach. The opposite is our Boxsters, where there's a nice high whine at low RPM that slowly changes into an all-out growl under WOT at about 3-4krpm on up. Road feel sucks. In my Box, I feel like I'm driving a go-cart. In the Z4 I felt like I was driving a loud Buick. Even though it handles well, it had that disconnected feeling. STEERING!!!! Can't stress this enough. I can dart in and out of traffic, handle crazy twisty roads, etc, etc. In the Z4, it felt like a truck. I felt like I was out of control. The car had a mind of it's own and felt skittish. Seating position. I'm a small dude (5'10, 150lbs), and the Box fits me like a glove. Even at 5'10, I felt like I was looking over the windshield in the Z4. This is in addition to the fact that I could NOT find a comfy seating position and the lack of bolster on the seat allowed me to go flying all over the seat every time I hit a curve. Verdict: BMW did a great job at making a roadster that even Mazda and Toyota would laugh at, despite costing twice as much as a Miata or MR2 Spyder.

POST 16Original post

And that hump on the Z4's hood is just fricken annoying!

POST 17Original post

wow that's too bad the Z4 is uderwhelming for the moolah. I appreciate what BMW is doing style wise. They are determined to bring concepts to reality rather than just tweaking current designs like Mercedez and Volkwagon. I find most of the Mercs and VW's sterile and boring. Very star bucks yuppy like. Its easy to sit back and criticisize something like Z4 when no one else is taking design risks. But performance wise, those wheel base configurations of the Z3 and Z4 and M coupes are very limiting if they are to compete with the mid engine Boxster.

POST 18Original post

First porsche 98 boxster. I'm like a kid at the candy store. Or needing a reason to drive there. My wife says you are driving where again? What a car, I hope it stays to-gether for me. I thought my friends 92 325beemer was fun, but it is no comparison. You're never too old for a porsche......

POST 19Original post

I've only had my 2001 for a few weeks. The Boxster is everything that the British sports cars were supposed to be, but with reliability thrown in. The gently used cars are the best value on the market right now. Yellowjacket - there are many steps up from a Boxster, but most are going to require a serious investment. It's the best reason to work hard and be successful

POST 20Original post

everthing Randall Neighbour said!! bout sums it up!!

POST 21Original post

I am 46 will be 47 in April just picked up my first Porsche, first Boxster last week. I traded in my 2004 BMW Mini Cooper S. The Mini is a very good car, the Boxster is a great car it only took one test drive. And ya my wife gave me permission!!!!!! she is a great gal. I to use it as a daily driver, the more I drive it the more I understand just how good it is.

POST 22Original post

Hey, I'm 54 and I think I'm giving up a little bit of interior space by switching my 968 for the Boxster S I have on order. After driving the S, it's worth the trouble. If I get too old to bend down, I figure I can get one of those top hoists that people mount on the garage ceiling and swing myself into the driver's seat. Now only if I could have ordered the driver's side "lift chair option" to help me out . . .

POST 23Original post

Wow, I am 55 and planning on taking the US Marine fitness test on my 56th birthday. Perhaps I should just take a nap instead?

POST 24Original post

Everyone's responses to this thread are very astute. I just got my 97 black Boxster out of the shop where it had been for 3 days while my local mechanic fixed a few minor problems (most annoyingly, the passenger side window quit working due to a corroded wire). I took it home, removed the hardtop, and cleaned the interior after a long winter. The hardtop had been on for the last 4 months as this car is a daily driver. Today I drove it to work with the top down for the first time since I installed the Dansk muffler, and all I can say is WOW. The absolute rightness of the way it feels, the fantastic sound with the top down are simply unmatched by any other car on the road. There are other good performing cars out there, but only the Boxster becomes part of you, an extension of your brain when you drive it. And it's just the best looking car on the road, bar none. My girlfriend laughs at me for this at least once a week. The other morning, I woke up before her, went to open the drapes, and just stood there staring out the window at my Boxster. Thinking my girlfriend is still asleep, I'm just smiling like an idiot, when I hear from behind me "it's still gonna be there when you get downstairs". Hehe.

POST 26Original post

I've had my 97 for nearly a year now, and I still open the garage door, pull the car into the driveway, and sit down on a patio chair and just stare at it on Saturday mornings. All my life I dreamed of owning a Porsche and it's still hard to think "I actually own that car. It's mine." I guess the marketing guys are right. Porsche, there is no subsitute.

POST 28Original post

I've had my Boxster for several years now and I have a few things to say about the car. 1. Not fast enough. I can outrun it with my 944. 2. Really cool looking. I think the 986 looks better that the 987. My car is a 97 and still looks as new as anything else out there. 3. The car handles great. Put some wider 911 wheels on it and the rear really sticks. 4. The interior is functional, but cheap looking. Even with the upgrades that Porsche offers, it's always looked cheesy. 5. The great thing about a Porsche is it can take a beating. I driven the mess out of that car and it just want's more. Try doing that in a Ferrari. 6. You get looks in it. It ain't fast, but sure looks it. Just watch who you race. Looks are deceiving. I bought this car when I was 27. Now that I've got a little more money, the decision to keep the car has swayed to the negative side. There are too many Boxsters on the road. I liked it when I didn't see that many around. I live on the North Carolina coast. (convertible country) Now, they're everywhere. I wish there weren't so many on the road and that they weren't so affordable. Seeing 18 year olds pimping them out really turns me off on the car. It's not the car, it's that I feel it is becoming less exotic. The more people that have them, the more people know how underpowered the Boxster really is. I thought about buying a new 987, but the power issue is just that...a power issue. The Boxster is what it is, a sweet handling machine. That's it's strength. But for the head turns and seeing one on every corner I guess I've lost interest in it. Last weekend I drove a Maserati Spyder. You can get a nice 2002 for around 50K-60K. That car has the paddle shifters, amazing take off, and you never see them on the road. Pretty Cool. I've recently purchased an old 911 RSR. I am restoring it now. This is the car that has taken my attention. Whether I keep the Boxster or not is yet to be seen. I've got it for sale, but I'm torn on whether to sell it or not. Don't know if I'll miss it?

Once you get into a Porsche, it's hard to leave. After I test drove the Corvette C6, I came home and told my wife that I wasn't sure. I might want to just refurbish my 10-year-old 968. After I drove the Boxster S, I put down a deposit before I walked out of the showroom. As for the Maserati, it's a beautiful car, but I wonder about the durability down the line.

POST 30Original post

"the Maserati, it's a beautiful car, but I wonder about the durability down the line." Sadly, there is nothing to wonder about. The Mas simply will not hold up based on its storied but troubled past!

POST 31Original post

I took in my Viper to trade at the local exotic car reseller ( www.parkplaceltd.com ), intent on trading it for a used 996 turbo. After driving the 911, I had one picked out but wanted to try out a Boxster first just for the sake of comparison. I drove the Boxster (not an S), and realized that for $60K less I got a car that was 90% as good all things considered, with better handling and more accessible performance, just less grunt and no back seat. So, I saved the money and got the Box. A

POST 32Original post

You can buy a slighty used 02 Maserati or you could buy a brand new 05 987 S for the same coinage. The boxster will most certainly handle better and with the new engine out-put it would be only an eye-blink slower than the Maser..if that. It would probabbly feel like a rocket compared to your 97. YOu should go for a test drive.

Cars have always been one of my best motivators. Now that I have the 2004 Box, I don't surf autotrader and ebay, I don't cruise car lots, and no other car does it for me. Every other car has a little something wrong. And yes there are cars I really want, but not enough to motivate me to go the extra mile. I could all excited about a 2006 987S if they made an all black interior. I hate that silver Japanese plastic look. I am all hot for a C4S, but I like roadsters. Can't afford a CGT or the likes. I guess I am stuck in 986 bliss. It's been raining all day and it finally cleared up at dusk; me and my 4 yr old went for a cruise in what he calls "The Roaster". Bliss

would LOVE to get my boxster to Scotland. I can still picture the stunning landscapes and inviting roads, especially around Inverness. What a beautiful town. transit costs are actually reasonable, the issue seems to always be lack of time. someday...

Reminiscing of what isn't but maybe one day I will be able, to be able to run my Boxster in my homeland,Cuba once the dictator dies or is quartered or some other pleasant way of getting rid of him and his regime . I can only imagine the palm trees, the clear blue water with a tropical breeze and at night a beautiful celestial display.

POST 39Original post

Most of my sports car life has revolved around Mazda Miatas. I have owned eleven of those little Japanese Roadsters and I still love them (still own one too). Granted they are no match for a Boxster but you have to consider price positioning as well. Last Christmas my hubby bought me my 2000 Boxster. We actually bought the car from Courtney Cox (from the TV Show Friends). I have never been so in-love with a car! I have had some cool and different types of cars (two DeLoreans, two BMW Z3's, a Corvette, other Porsches and plenty others). The Boxster kills all of them for pure smiling while driving! I love the way it looks, the way it sounds and the way it feels! Way to go Porsche!!!

As a teenager, I said to myself, "when i turn 25, something great is going to happen." (Reason being is because my Bday lands on the 25th, and I just felt like hoping in something great). 25 years old now, lost my girlfriend, and I started to get worried about staying bored. Ever since I bought my first Brand new car '99 Civic Si, I babied it. Then sold it. another truck, Bla bla. I needed another car to baby. I thought everything was going down the drain, but after my break up with my girl, BAM! Got the Porsche. (LOL, on her Birthday!) Ended up with a 98 Porsche blk/blk, sports package, very reasonable price. BELOW Kelly blue book value by thousands, all car fax done, major maintenance done. I couldn't refuse. Used yes, but I never get bored of looking at it. It turns heads everyday, and I honestly get complements about once every two days. Even in the drive thru! Everyone always say, "OMG, I can't believe you got a PORSCHE." Friends ask the common questions, "how much, what year?" I tell them it's a '98, their response, "oh.. errr.." Then they see it later on; their response, "WHOA looks better than I thought! You bast*rd!" Got back with the girl I wanted, and there's nothing in the world better than driving with the top down, girl in passenger seat, people staring, and bumping the music. Ahhh... what a great dream.......Oh wait.. It's not! It's all for real!!! Who cares about all the maintenance costs. It's realiable as any other used car, it's a PORSCHE, and everyone will know you as, "oh, [name] who drives the PORSCHE!" Okay enough said. That's my life story.

POST 41Original post

First Porsche - 04 Boxster Initial impressions are great handling and sharp looking. Still breakin in engine so no idea about overall performance. Ride is very nice for 18 wheels and stiff suspension. Smile factor very high. Cons For the price the interior is very cheap almost laughable ( I looked at 05's before settling for a 04 and the interior is much nicer ). I have the Bose system and the audio is very poor ( they should be able to do much better than this in their top of line audio system). Stock seats are not very comfortable and manual adjustable???? ( btw 3k+ for good power seats w/memory is a shame ). No tilt wheel available ??? Don't get me started on cup holders. I have owned 98 MB CLK320, which from a luxury wiz bang feature standpoint was a very nice car. Holds value like no other. However not much of a sports car. Got rid of a 02 Miata LS for the Porsche. Great little car for the money. Held it's value remarkable well. However a little cramped for me and I'm short and of course could not get out of it's own way if it had too. Daily driver is 02 BMW 330Ci. This is a all around great vehicle. Perfect blend of performance, luxury, and reliability. I only hope that the Porsche will make me as happy. 05 Harley EG Standard that is very jealous since the Porsche showed up as it is not getting out much

POST 42Original post

I do not own a Boxster, but do have somethings to compare it to since I have been on a test driving spree lately. 99 Boxster (Non-S) - I absolutely loved the car, great throttle response, crisp handling, love the feeling with the top down. Has enough torque that it can be easily driven around down. Very responsive. Its almost like the car knows what you are going to do before you do it. Very neutral when it comes to handling, no understeer and only oversteers when you want it to. 05 S2000 - Another car I absolutely loved. This is a true 240 hp go-kart. Very nimble and agile. Like the boxster, the car seems to know what you are going to do before you do it. Handling is very crisp. Lacks the low end torque to make it a serious daily driver. Interior is very cheap looking, but controls are positioned very well. Everything within arms reach of the driver, passenger has no control over anything. I think this car has the best gear box on the market right now. A simple flick of the wrist is all that is needed to change gears. My main complaint with this car was the fact that it was very tail happy. Now it was definately predictable, but just the fact that the car was so prone to oversteer annoyed me more than anything. The ride is very harsh and unforgiving. I would not want to take this car on a very long trip. 04 Lancer Evo 8 - Another very fun car to drive. This car is a completely different animal that a Boxster or S2000. It has loads of low end torque and when the turbo kicks in you get an incredible rush. Interior is put together nicely. You can't really beat the feeling of a redline launch in an AWD car. The backseat was a little cramped and I'm only 5'7." One of the major complaints I had about this car was the fact that it definately liked to plow through corners. It did not fit my driving style well at all. 04 350Z - If this car was about 800 lbs lighter it would be a total monster. Loads of torque and power throughout the full rev range. Very nice interior. Great gearbox and very precise handling, for a 3000+ lb car. The main complaint I had was that it acted like a 3000 lb car. You could just feel all the weight and that made it a chore to try to drive on the edge. If you are looking for a 2 seat grand touring car this is where you should look. In my opinion the best car of that class on the market. Hope that helps a little. I will update soon as there are still numerous cars on the list. 05 GTO 05 Elise 05 WRX STi 05 Mustang GT

POST 43Original post

The Boxster is my 5th Porsche and the most all around fun. It is the most precise to drive and the best driving car I have driven. I have had faster cars, but none that were so much fun to drive. I bought it in Plano, TX and drove it home to Oregon. I love it and have done many mods to it. I can't come up with a car that I would rather have.

POST 44Original post

My 01 Speed Yellow S is definately the fastest, best performing car I have ever owned. Actually, except for a buddy's Viper and maybe the Kawasaki 750 I owned in law school, it''s the fastest thing I've ever driven. What makes the Boxster S so special is their everyday usability compared to most comparable machinery. You can't drive a Ferrari or a Lambo on a day to day basis, even if you can afford to maintain one. Only a Corvette has an equal combination of reliability, performance, and image. And with a Vette, you still have a GM, engineered by a committee, machine. The Boxster has better steering, better handling under most conditions, and almost as good of acceleration with barely half as big a motor. Ya gotta love it Mike

POST 45Original post

I've had my Porsche Certified 12K '03 Boxster for one week - its my daily driver too and from work which is a 50 mile trek each day. I had a small problem with the passenger window which was quickly remedied by the dealer (Champion Porsche - excellent overall experience with them ) with a new regulator. My last car was an '04 Audi TT (Champion Audi) which I loved dearly - but - it was no comparison to the Porsche! The Boxster drives like a much more substantial automobile, more pep and power, road holding capability, and the Tiptronic S acts differently than the TT tiptronic did. The shifts are not as diffuse as the TT's were and the Porsche feels much as my '03 VW Beetle Turbo S 6 speed manual did - only with alot more power of course. My Boxster is every bit of what I dreamed - only more.

POST 46Original post

First Porsche was a '99 996. At the time I also owned a 383 stroker C5 vette with 464 RWTQ and 446 RWHP that ran 11.7 ET's. The PCar was great in traffic, nimble & the flat 6 sounded perfect. The interior was so-so. Acceleration was good but not great. The C5 stroker was a monster accelerating & handling was good as well (lowered, coil-overs, beefier sway bars & 18 inch wheels). Not totally reliable after heavy mods though. The interior was terrible & build quality was so-so. Traded both the C5 & the 996 for a rosso mondiale Maser Coupe that I still have. The Maser has one of the best interiors in th business...leather everywhere. The cabin's design, black with red piping & stitching, is perfect for long trips. The Maser's paddle shifters in sport mode are quicker than any manual shifter. They work well at speed but are lousy in stop & go traffic (jerky). The V8 offers good grunt & the sound is good straight out of the box. The Maser is a consumate GT and that's what I use it for...extended trips. Last year I drove it to NH, VT, ME, MA in the fall (from my home in Miami). The day after I bought it I drove to GA, SC, NC, TN & KY with one of my sons. I also drove it to the Porsche Driving Experience in Brimingham on another trip. Negatives regarding the Maser: the shifters aren't good in traffic, the paint seems soft, the sound system is passable but not good. In terms of quality issues...none on mine after 15K miles. This will be a long-term keeper. Last year I bought an '04 GTO as a commuter car while I got on the waiting list for an Elise. The GTO's muscle was entertaining. The interior was better than most any GM product. Good seats in particular. Many bits looked OK but were basic plastic though. The shifter was grade B at best. Exhaust note rumble was a B+. Handling at higher speeds was not as collected as any of the others mentioned here. Exterior styling was non-existent-- good for melding-in with other cars but nothing to look at. The Elise came in much sooner than I expected. Sexy styling. A+ exhaust with the Quicksilver exhaust. Outstanding handling--one of the best in the world for a production car. A+ acceleration too when it's on the boil...the type of shove in the back that the P-Car Turbo provides. A visceral driving experience. Decent shifter. On the low side: the shell is an egg-shell...one bump & it cracks to the tune of $6K for the front clam. Some people complain about ingress & egress-- I'm 6' and don't complain on that count. No torque. And last but not least, the AC can't cope with Miami's summer heat. It was fine November through May, but once the summer arrived I had it in the shop 3 times to try to fix the AC...which led to the heavily discounted left-over '04 Boxster S I now drive as a daily driver. The Boxster S also looks great, despite its age. The engine has the note I enjoyed on the 996, especially with the top down. I find myself turning down the radio to listen to the exhaust. The interior is better than the '99 996's. Acceleration is much quicker than it feels, but no muscle car. Handling is very good...not as tight as the Elise, especially over bumps. Creature comforts are generally good-- B+. The AC works. The Bose system sounds fine (although audiphiles will always want more from it). The automatic top is easy to operate. Stowage is excellent for a 2 seater. In Miami the Boxster is as common as a Beetle at this point...easy to blend in & I don't get too concerned about leaving it with a valet if I need to, although I still search for the safest parking spots wherever I go. The biggest negative is concern over the possibility that the Litronics will get stolen here. I bought the Boxster as an entertaining yet practical daily driver. It is that & more.

POST 47Original post

Here are some sports cars that I've driven and my impressions of them. I have a 2000 Boxster S and my previous car was a 2000 Boxster: S2000 Loved the 9000 rpm redline, but you get tired of it if you are driving it everyday. The thing that bother me the most is the tail swinging out in tight corners. Great for drift racing, but not an everyday sports car. Also, the average age of owners seems to be in their 20's. I'm almost 40 and I don't feel right driving it. 350Z I actually ordered this car in 2002 for the 2003 year. Drove the demo before taking delivery and cancelled the order. Nothing wrong with the car - good looks, power and handling, but just didn't like it. M3 Fast car with loads of torque, great brakes. Heavy car, but power compensates for it. Good value for overall performance. Performance is at par with 997, but at 2/3 the price. However it doesn't have the sexiness of the Boxster. It's like Pam Anderson vs. Julia Roberts. Pam Anderson is not that great of an actor compare to Julia Roberts, but she has sex written all over her! Lotus Elise Handles like it's on rails and good power. Didn't care too much about the sound of the engine. Some people love it, but not for me. Quality feels like a home made kit car. Rattles everywhere and very tight inside - My shoulders were touching the passenger the whole time and I'm 170lbs! Great autocross and track car, but not an everyday sports car. Price is about right for it. 996 Cab I always thought that this would be my next move up the food chain. Has more power on paper, but certainly does not feel like it. It actually feels slower. Doesn't handle as good as the Boxster and didn't care too much for the looks from the rear. It's also about $15K cdn more than my car for the same year. I'll pass this one for the move up. 997S, Boxster and Boxster S Everything is right about the 997S - power, handling, braking etc. But didn't get the same feeling as the first time I drove the Boxster. I was dreaming about getting the Boxster for over a year before I took the plunge. Took another year before moving to an S. I'm very happy with my S and I don't dream about getting the car I want anymore........for now. Well, I was lying, wishlist for my Boxster S GT2 bumper (I have the factory sideskirts already) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-996-GT2-Style-Front-Bumper_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33640QQitemZ8002 069271QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW 18" Gemballa Competition wheels with R compound tires http://www.wheelenhancement.com/getpic.php?pic=42_83_Lapis%20blue.jpg MO30 suspension +35hp performance upgrades (chip, exhaust, air intake, cat bypass) http://www.fabspeed.com/ Already did the B&M Short Shifter and just love it.

I recently bought a 2004 Boxster S. I think the best way to express my opinion is to relate the following: Several weeks ago I had a problem sleeping and went downstairs. After awhile my wife came down to see if I was OK. She found me in the garage sitting in a lawn chair. I was admiring my Boxster with a glass of Pinot. She said "unbelievable" and went back to bed. The bottom line for me is that the car is like a beautiful woman! She is great to look at AND drive.

Quick Info 99 Boxster Zenith Blue 52k Running Damn Near New I have not regret a second of owning the car. It is great, has speed, handles, and breaks well. The best aspect of the car is that you dont have to drive it hard/fast/stupid to enjoy it,just drive down the street and listen to the exhaust note with the top down. I did not know running out to pick up some Epsom salt for my dad's broken finger would be so fun. Being young(18) and having money(work at grocery store and for eBay) I receive some rather upset looks from people,so jealous people do not compliment me often unless they are younger then me. When I let my dad drive the car he receives compliments all the time. I have driven BMW's,VW's,Audi's and I can honestly say I would not trade it for a S4,M3,GTI 1.8T. Only complaint is the shift knob, but I am ordering a MOMO Anatomico short version shortly. I have heard some complain of the interoir but I have no clue as to why it is made from quality, granted I have the Hi-Fi upgrade to the stereo and a painted center console I would assume its not too different then a stripped stock one. A couple of recommendations would be to change to the updated 2003 taillights and order clear side markers($175 shipped new),painted valve stem caps($15) and matching Boxster license plate frame($40). I could have lived without them but since I had the money and said "why not?".

POST 50Original post

2004 Boxster S now 6000 kilometers Some cars that I've driven: 1989 Chevrolet Camaro RS 240hp only. A fun and spacious car. Not a bad pony car. 1996 Chevrolet Camaro The engine was the 3.8L but the room for mods made it interesting Everything from stock was basically worthless so had to put in few usual mods such as suspension (bilstein, eibach), borla and added an intercooler. A good friend of mine later added a dyno supercharger after I sold it to him. Good torque, but handling is similar to handling a mule. 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Bought it used for work car, but had serious reliability issue (engine and brake system didn't last). 2000 Honda Civic GTR Still driving this as my second car. This is the only car I own that never breaks (no, not even once), cheap maintenance, super mpg making it a good grocery car I am considering trading it for a newer model of 2005 Civic (Hybrid) though for the sake of our earth 2004 Nissan Skyline Only test drove the car. First impression was the engine was quite smooth, okay torque, but cheap and rattled interior, cramped back seat just killed it. 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Well, yes I'm a Chevy fan. Test drove it. Corvette actually is quite nice but considering the size of local street in Japan (small), this car becomes almost impossible to drive, not to mention to park. I would love to have it as second car though... 2004 Porsche Boxster S Test drove it and never looked back Nothing to complain really and have smile on my face everytime I drive it. The only problem with the boxster is that not many people drives this car in Japan and being a 2 seater and living in rural area in Japan make the jealousy factor quite high (had cars spinned their tires behind me, car stopped in front of me for no reason in 2 months of driving. Unbelievable). Well, hell, grow up, it is MY money, I earned it and I AM enjoying spending it

POST 51Original post

i gotta tell you, i have a 2002 and i liked driving it, alot. althought it is one of the most troublesome cars ive ever seen or owned!! i have not had one solid week in 4 years that this car didnt break or have some light come on or some problem that required a few thousand to make right. i have traded it as of saturday but the interesting part is the dealer knows that the car does not run!!!! i have the alarm control unit out as the car had about 8" of water in the floor and the carpet is soaked. it ruined the unit, carpet, and the car is totaly inop at this time. i cant even get it towed to porsche to get it fixed because there is so much water in it. tonight i filled the shop vac up 1.5 times (6.5 gal vac) and this is the second time in 3 days!!! cant get the hood open to see if the drains are plugged, and the red lead in the fuse trick does not work when the alarm box is fried, and no there is not a cable either (i took both inner wheelwheel wells out). i have to tear out the carpet and replace it, and get the car to the dealer ($400 to tow it there at least 4 times a month) to spend $1200 on keys programing and a box. this i am sad to say is money well spent as when it is done, i am having it towed to the dealer i bought my other car from. i cant trust it to make the 125 mile trip without breaking down. so is it a good car? for me the cost of upkeep doesnt outweigh the joy of driving. i suppose those sunny florida days are fun,....... but the thought of a breakdown has loomed large on every trip since day 2 of ownership when i met the local "hook" operator for what bacame the 1st of close to 200 tows!!! i know ill get slammed and you will all say oh look it is his 3 post and waaaaaa. but the truth is i have been as loyal to the company as the germans that made it famous. it is an ok car that is as practical as a pair of daisy dukes at a jenny craig meeting, and not at all comfortable.sorry....you can all pile on,but remember this when it is your turn, you have eachother to ask for tips and advice, so be nice. also if you have a bad experience as i did, dont think of a law suit or any type of legal action, althought they calim they have an american base in atlanta, you must sue them as a foreign corperation and that cost a minium 3k just to get the ball rolling.......just pay the bill at the dealer and smile, thats all

I had a lot of people looking at my BoxsterS last weekend. At a local autocross, only the third time I have raced this car, I ended up winning my class, winning the PAX index, and having the 4th fastest time out of 60 competitors. I had to flog the bejesus out of it to beat a fast young kid in a new Evo SM, but managed to clip him by .10 sec. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE.

During my 23 years practicing medicine, I indulged my youthful fancies by owning 12 sports cars: (3) 911 Turbos, (3) 911s, (3) NSXs, a Viper R/T 10, Lotus Espirit S4S and a Corvette ZR-1. I guess my wife was correct when calling me "a maniac" (something I heard on more than one occasion). Disgusted with the state of medicine, I retired several years ago. Uncertain about the future, we "downsized", selling our Lake Las Vegas home, my '96 993 Twin Turbo/2000 NSX, my wife's '03 E-55 AMG and moved to Florida. To replace these terrific cars, we purchased a 6-speed Volvo V70R wagon. I have been in a state of withdrawl ever since. Not wishing to tempt fate-or start WWIII at home-I resigned myself to driving drudgery. To my incredible surprise, my wife presented me with a pristine 1997 Boxster for my recent birthday. Joy of joys, the "permagrin" has returned!

POST 56Original post

Coming from far faster cars, I'm surprised a 97 Boxster does it for you. I do love mine. But I've never had a Turbo! It would probably be hard for me to go "backward" that way.

Randall's first post...ditto. A few other things: 1) It fits the tall, sexy woman who drives it to work every day. 2) Even with the lower hp, I can still keep up with the best of them (Ferraris get really upset) in the North Georgia twisties. 3) Being on other forums where they dog the P-cars, then say "so many people ask if my.....is a Porsche" and being able to reply "nobody asks me if my Porsche a......" 4) Being able to answer the age old question......it's POR-SHA. 5) I own a freakin' Porsche!!! Love this car!

POST 58Original post

If this were 2003, you would be correct. In fact, the Boxster is no match for my previous cars in terms of acceleration. I will say, however, the Boxster's steering, handling and "tossability" is vastly superior to my ZR-1, Viper (both were pieces of junk, but that is another story)and 1988 911 Turbo (lift throttle oversteer), while slightly better than my 1995 NSX-T (a disappointing car). My 1996 993 TT (stock) and 2000 NSX (special order coupe, modified by CompTech, Dali Racing) were well and truly special machines. Retrospectively, I very much regret not keeping one of them.

S2000 Nice car, I like the handling, but didn't like the lack of torque. Liked the reliability and looks Solstice GXP I really wanted to get this car and drove the base solstice. Handling is good but not quite the precision of the boxster. The engine technology is incredible and provide a much more cost effective platform for modification than the boxster. The GXP will eventually be out accelerating the boxster s. The interior is very cheap. There's little room to store anything. It's really not very practical. Fit and Finish overall is just ok. Cadillac CTS-V Nice car... just not the right car for me in my life. Felt a little heavy. Transmission was better than expected, ride quality was nice, fit and finish were pretty good. MB SLK 350 I really liked this car. It had the right combination of torque/hp. Liked the hardtop/convertible . Looks and drives much better than expected. Nice compliant ride. If I could get a used one 35K I probably would have gotten one. Not much trunk space though and questionable reliability. 04 Subaru STI I love this car and still own it. I have extensively modded it: about 500 hp on 100 octane/ coilovers etc. Incredible reliability. This claws around the corners while the porsche is like a scalpel. The torque is so much better in the sti that it makes me wish for about 50hp more in my boxster. 03 Boxster S Love this car. I honestly didn't think about it because I drove the the base 2000 boxster and felt it was gutless. The handling seemed pretty good and engine sounded pretty cool, but not enough go to experience the visceral sensation of speed. Overall I was more impressed with the S2000. However. I liked that the Porsche had enough storage for clubs and for luggage. I recently revisted the porsche boxster and decided I would try to test drive it. I liked a few things about the 2003, like the glass window. What a fun car this!. It has reasonable power and the sound is only what a porsche could be. Brakes feel great. Handling is superb. I didn't understand what refined meant until I drove the boxster... I know the difference now and I can appreciate the delicate balance in handling/power/brakes that the boxster has. I sold my 58 corvette about a year ago so I've been longing for a drop top. I love this car! This is my 3 day of ownership. Now I feel like the rest of my life can begin.

Please include your model (e.g. Boxster S) in the title of your post. First off I have a 99',5 spd.,55k miles. We invite you to tell your story of why you love your Porsche - I wanted to by myself the best 18th birthday present possible and I did. - The handling from the factory is great! - The acceleration is fast, not super fast. I don't care what anyone says but from 40 mph+ these 2.5L get up and go. - The car stops on a dime. - The look of 30+ year old guys who pull up to me when I'm driving and shake their head in disbeleif. - The Porsche Whine from the engine is intoxicating - The open air around me from a busy/stressful day is theraputic, nothing can beat cruising with top down. -THE CAR JUST FEELS RIGHT! Compare it to other performance cars that you've driven (or driven against!). I haven't been in many others performance cars only some modified A4,M3s, and some Mustangs. Modified Audi A4(99' 5spd.) -The Audi IMHO is a nice car stock....It doesn't feel right modified. One day when I have kids perhaps one will do. Modified M3s(96' & 97') -Great cars from the get go! Handling is alright, speed is there, braking is alright. I never felt a presence from either M3,it was just a car to me. Mustangs(Too many to list,I have been in every one) -There are way too many of these on the road. To me IMHO,its a sedan with an aggresive looking body, unless you get a GT,those have some speed. I can't find out why people like these, maybe for a high-schooler but not for me.(No offense)

Hello all, I should change my user name as "wanna" is in the past. I bought a 2002 S. I've read this whole thread and my neck hurts from nodding, admittedly I'm also fighting "nodding off" owing to 2:00 a.m. having passed! Before my S, I test drove a 2002 base model. The salesman had me go to an onramp and was actually encouraging me to go fast- "when you think you're going fast, give it some more- don't worry" I was impressed more by the salesman's confidence in the car than with my own driving ability, so I was rather reserved about pushing the car. The feeling was clearly different, though, as it felt like the car was actually being pivoted rather than being steered through the curve of the ramp. I found myself saying "I get it" when, without being beckoned by my passenger this time, I changed lanes into the passing lane and gave it more gas. The howl as I entered variocamland! After the test drive, reflecting on what had just happened, I told myself that I shouldn't be impressed merely by an exotic exhaust note. My eyes verified the action of my right foot , though, as the acceleration spurt netted a quick gain in speed from 55 to 80 mph. It wasn't only my imagination, and this was "only" the 2.7. Clearly a seed was planted. Although I found nothing wrong with the 2.7, (I even thought I'd be o.k. with the 2.5 if the price was right), I can't say I regret being influenced by my son who reminded me I've always bought the biggest engine available. The 3.2 is right for me. My 60 mile trip home on the highway was an eye-opener. I realize why so many yearn for no speed limit. My previous domestic rides: Corvette, Mustang, 70s muscle, are famous for their torque, clearly, and owing to cam changes, superchargers, etcetera, weren't shy of the upper limits of the speedometer- but this car is just different. Entirely smooth and flexible with the engine being stiff competition with the Bose system for best tunes. Keeping it at a respectable75-80 mph was really a chore (and such a pity). The trip computer was even reporting mileage in the high 20s! In the city, well, why so many gears? Once I'm out of first (giving the engine a little breathing room, of course), it's into 6th if I want to keep a low profile. This is long, but I can't imagine ending without commenting on the chassis. My corvette, with the targa top removed, feels as though it's going to fall apart. Quite normal, I'm told by other owners. The Boxster, of course, is amazing. I forget there "should" be a difference top up and down. Wow. I have to go to bed now, although maybe just one quick look in the garage for an inspiration for "sweet dreams". Good night.

Hi, Why do i love my 1997 Boxster. I can't afford a Ferrari Love the timeless curves and still looks new. Daily driving machine. Overall balance. Best trunk space compared to other roadsters. Just can't stop waxing it. Just can't stop staring at it. Reliability. The WOW factor i get from the young kids (Adults that's another Story). Legitimate excuse to go away for the weekend without the kids. Best of all my wife telling me if only u would take care of me as u do the Boxster. :troll: PS. She's been home for the past 16 years. :ah: The laughs and information i get on this forum. Owned 1 other sports car, a Camaro Z28 air induction fun at the time but not worth comparing.

Hi There, I have now had my Box for 1 month. Living on the Adriatic ocean in Slovenia I am blessed with countless windly roads in perfect condition, with some excellent mountain driving only half an hour away and some nice autobahns for the speed demons all within a day trip! This car is just made for these roads. This is truely a smile machile. Where the box misses out on power it sure does make up for in handling ten fold! Best thing is you can go a couple of weeks without seeing and Pcars on the road in Slovenia so it attracts plenty of attention which is cool. I bought my first Pcar when I was 24 (928) and bought and rebuilt the 911sc when I was 28.....(cost 2.5 times more to fix up than what I paid for it) and now how my first box at 34....... Only advise I can give anyone that loves Pcars is to buy one as soon as they can. Keeps you young at heart forever. Back in Australia I had a nice powerful 928 and a 911 sc, however with the restrictions on speed and the abundant law inforcement officers on the road you just cant appreciate what these cars are made for. I found my 2004 4wd Liberty turbo to be great on the windy roads but no big smile factor, its a fast good handling family car. For the $$$ you cant beat the boxster. Now I have to wait for my lease to expire (3 long years) and an S will definitely be considered!! Cheers, Steven.

Many of you have a lot of experience with sexy cars. Me, I am now driving my very first German car -- and sporty at that. My experience with speed has been limited to motorcycles -- and even those were not the sport bikes. Yet my 2003 Goldwing will probably take most every car on the road from the light. I looks like it belongs to the older generation -- and it does have all the creature comforts -- but don't let that fool you -- it will leave my Boxster standing still. However, all that said -- I enjoy the Boxster more than the Wing. In fact, I'm selling the Wing. I can honestly say, I've never driven anything that was more fun than the Boxster. I'm not a race fan -- and I seldom take risks -- but the Boxster has the power, the handling, the sound and the looks that make it a pure pleasure to drive -- fast or slow. To put things in perspective -- my other rides include the LS430 and RX300 Lexus, the Wing (of course) and my faithful F-150. You can now see why I look forward to getting behind the wheel of my Boxster! -gene

Here's my summary of the cars I've driven before buying a couple of months ago. 996 cab4 - nice unit with good directional stability, rear seats very tight 996 cab2 - nice unit but rear end looks big, handling ok 996 targa - looks balanced, rear seat area is way too small - no headroom at all 986S - good power, good handling, good balance 987 - needs to be revved above 4k to generate power, nice interior 987S - better power, good first gear pull, better looking headlights and bumpers 987S 295hp - better midrange power, more aggresive (rougher) sound The 280hp and 295hp are very close to 60 due to lower gearing in the 280hp, then the 295 pulls a bit harder in higher gears as the ratios are the same third and up Z4 - solid car with nice sound but I felt too isolated and car felt bigger than what it was, felt like a quality unit Elise - very fun car with great sound but gearshift felt flimsy and top takes longer to put up and take off - high end power was intoxicating, the 08sc should pull even better, probably similar to the Exige. Handling and steering feel were excellent. Overall the 987S was the best choice for me. Found a well optioned unit with a clean DME bill of health. 2 PPIs showed no problems, but after a month brought it in for warrantied part replacements missed in the PPIs. The warranty is important imo especially when buying used. 2 dealers tried to sell lemons but I found issues before going too far - be careful, buyer beware. I wouldn't trade my 987S for a more expensive 997 cab as the 987S just handles better and top end isn't that important to me. The 987S is the best droptop overall with the best handling and more than enough power. Buy a good specimen and you will be very very happy. Keeping it pegged will keep you smiling and smiling. Have fun but be careful.

It will be a very interesting summer for me. I replaced my year-round car this winter with a 2003 Audi TT 225 Quattro Coupe. I'm having the same feelings as I did when I purchased my 01 Boxster 3 years ago: Huge grin while driving. The Boxster will be coming out of storage first Saturday of May. I suspect the Boxster will be driven on the sunny days and the TT when the clouds appear. One thing I've noticed: I drive 160k per day and through 4 months of owning the TT I've only seen 2 on the road at the same time as myself. In the last 3 weeks (with the amazing weather in Toronto) I've seen probably 20 Boxsters. Andy

POST 67Original post

You drive 160k per day!? Man, you must be exhausted.

POST 68Original post

I think he probably meant 160 km, and not miles. So it is like 100 miles, but still a lot. Maybe my Boxster is one of the 20 ones you saw in Toronto . I could not miss any single sunny day to take out my baby for a spin.

I just got my 1999 Boxster on Monday. It has 30K miles and is in showroom condition. My friends had it and stored it in a heated / air conditioned garage. All maintenace was done at the Porsche dealer. I have put both kids to bed and then walked to the garage to pull the car cover up to about mid hood and stare at the front badge....my wife laughs at me every night. Will it ever wear off??????? LOL

POST 71Original post

No it only gets deeper into your blood but since we all are mortal, go look at the badge and celebrate being privileged enough to have one to drive, the hell with what year it is, it's a Porsche!!!

Hi All, First time Owner of a Porsche!! Very pleased with it ,has done 93,000 kms and is a Forest Green Colour. Having owned other sports cars through the years , i am very impressed with the handeling and performance. Also have owned a Lotus Elan S4 , a Austin Healey Sprite and Nissan Sports 1600. Service seems to be the number one issue with this car, is it all that expensive compared to other modern day Cars? Cheers to all , Tex ps a great web site ,Love IT!!

POST 73Original post

I have never before owned a car the valets leave in front of the restaurant with the Bentleys... The Boxster is a wonderful piece of machinery.

POST 74Original post

A 986 done right has got to be one best looking cars ever made. I think the original curves especially MY 2000 look much better than even the 987 (a very fine car). 986 full leather int is on par with the 987 int The 986 has a certain sixties sports car look that is kind of lost on newer model P cars

POST 75Original post

Got my 2004 Boxster (my 1st!) last may and have out 22000 km on it since then. Age is 56. Should have done it years ago. One of the best mental health tools out there.

POST 76Original post

Enjoy it now. At 64 and after having 2 Austin Healeys, 1 MG, 1 MGA, 1 Fiat, 1 Alfa, 2 Corvette's, I found this one owner 2000 S with 64,000 K. This baby has all the options including a Valentine 1 installed in the mirror. Sticker was $69,000. It's an incredible car and the most fun one to drive. I wonder what VW has planned for them. Jerry

POST 77Original post

I absolutely love mine & in my opinion the 986 Boxster is one of the prettiest cars, Porsche or otherwise, ever made & will never grow old on me. I would've been content without the S, but am enjoying all the extra S bits. If you're on the fence on buying a Boxster...don't hesitate, find a clean, well maintained one & you'll not regret it. Some misc thoughts -The interior actually smells just like my '83 911 SC, the 6spd shifts flawlessly, the 3-spoke wheel looks tight, & I'm quite happy with the factory DSP stereo. The Connelly Hide Food has also made the seats very supple again & they're very comfy for my 6'2" frame. Porsche just did a phenomenal job setting up this car & you can tell it only weighs 2,850 lbs. And 250 HP is plenty for this rig on public roads. The maintenance I've done so far was very straigtforward too; Oil & filter change, new spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter & cabin air filter. I ran some BG44K through the gas tank to help clean up the injectors, valves, etc. It just flat rips now & I'll see what she'll do up at Laguna Seca next month. Best of all, my insurance hardly increased and there are some excellent deals on Boxsters out there, so good luck to anyone searching for their next one.

Do you guys know who Navin R Johnson is? Well I was him in real life at an Esso station, I always loved cars, especially the one 911 that gassed there; ugly brown automatic or not. I like Porsche cars for many reasons, racing heritage is phenomenal, the passion the company puts into it's products is evident and backed with performance that matches the legendary swagger, remember this one? . Unlike say Pontiac (rest their souls) who used to slap vinyl and a spoiler on anything and deem it a "sports" version, wait for it............... sunbird... The cars themselves are so crisp and fun, that every spring is just as fresh as opening a new Christmas gift.

I got my first Porsche in 2003 it was a beatifull 2001 Lapis Blue Boxster and i fell in love with it. Now i own a 2003 Speed Yellow Boxster S with 24,000 km on it. I like the driving pleasure given by that piece of art. Porsche for me is the summum of what a car must be, pure pleasure. That's the car i dreaming of for many years.

Today is a German Holiday, but I had to work. I hit the autobahn, and barely saw 1o cars in my whole 10 mile commute. I can tell you that 130 MPH with the top down for 10 miles will give you a silly grin and a hairstyle to match! My 01S makes the dullest days exciting. 45th birthday is this weekend, so I am taking my car to Hochenheim for the first time. Can't wait!

POST 83Original post

I am in Scottsdale after just moving from the Denver area where I had my 2001 S (Polar Silver and red interior) tucked into the garage for 6-7 months per year so only 45K miles on her now.... I picked it up in Stuttgart in January 01 and my wife and I drove it all over Germany and France before having it shipped too the US. Awesome experience!! Happy to have found the forum for information and sharing.

Welcome to the board. I too have an 01 when I bought it, she had similar miles on her. 55,000 now the dash reads 74, only 2 years later

I just purchased my '99 on 4th of July weekend. Traded in my '88 944. Once I took a test drive I was hooked. I've owned 3 944's and I alwways wanted a drop top. For the price of a 944 cab I was able to get a 986 in much better condition. My poor motorcycles are feeling the neglect, but this car is FUN! When I tell people it's a 12 year old car they don't believe me. With only 66k on it, it doesn't drive like a 12yo. My GF loves it, and when momma is happy, the whole world is happy!

Thank you a lot for giving everyone an exceptionally pleasant possiblity to read in detail from this blog. It really is so amazing and as well , stuffed with a lot of fun for me personally and my office co-workers to search your web site a minimum of thrice a week to see the newest stuff you have got. And indeed, I'm just usually contented with all the staggering inspiring ideas you give. Certain 4 facts in this posting are easily the finest we've had.

Hi all, I bought my first Porsche just this month, a silver 2003 Boxster S with extended red leather throughout, Litronics, Bose stereo, M030 suspension, active mirrors and rain sensors, heated seats, etc, etc.. I took it out for a nice 2-day holiday last week and just clocked 33,000 kms. Yup, it's pretty much brand new. Hopefully I haven't already lost my license due to the speeds I was 'accidentally' reaching.

POST 88Original post

I have a 2000 Boxster, and bought it new in 2000. Not a day goes by that I don't get excited about driving it (top down always). Just installed the Suncoast rear speaker kit, and the sound is great at 70mph. I've toyed with buying a new 991, but every time I get close, something pulls me back. I agree that the curves on the 986 are much cleaner than the newer models (in my opinion).

Ah, you're still a youngster. I'm 64 and about to buy my first Porsche, a car I've been in love with since forever. I don't know why I waited this long, must have been something to do with being poor.:ah: I suddenly have the feeling if I don't do it now I may never get around to it. So damn the expense, I'm going to get a Boxster S, join a club and take some performance driving lessons. Make hay while the sun shines!
