Help!! I am 70 year old mechanic. All my hobby cars have been electronics free until this one. 1970.. 914--
1977.. 928 -- 1979..
911
and now the problem child, that is going to make me crazy..2010 Boxster 2.9. I was just becoming familiar with OBD2 when I left GM in 1993 but admittedly I am lost and frustrated now. I am sure you have had a laugh by now and this question has probably been asked and answered a bunch of times but I looked and looked not to be in trouble posting in the wrong sub forum, but did not see it anywhere. As the " Chief Cook and Bottle Washer " has recommended using the proper forum is important. So here it is. Using my brand new out of the box
NT 530
where and how do I find how to update (code?) My new
AGM
into existance. Previous was flooded type. Simple as that right?? Thanks for looking....
I'm pretty sure the 987 series didn't require or even offer the ability to register a new
battery
. My 987.1 sure doesn't have that feature. And, years ago I updated from flooded to
AGM
as they both work the same on our cars.
Thanks for chiming in. That sounds like a great thing for me and I can't tell you where I came up with the possibility that it was an option. Just being careful as this is all new to me and definitely doesn't sound far fetched with all the other scrap in the system.
Thanx..
Found this during a search. Referenced from an owners forum in the UK. I would imagine it applies to the 987 series here as well.
No, you do not need to code or register a new battery
on a Porsche Boxster (987 generation, model years 2005–2012).
The 987 electrical architecture is entirely analog regarding battery management. It lacks the advanced Battery Control Module (Gateway/BMS) found in modern modern start-stop vehicles like the 981, 992, or newer Cayennes that require serial number coding or type programming.
Agreed as above - 2010 doesn't require recoding. I replaced the
battery
on mine without issue... no coding needed (or possible).
No coding is also my understanding
Upgraded to
Lithium
- all good. 987.1
(also have the
NT530
- not needed for this change)
Battery
coding didn't start until the 981/991
I would like to thank all of you that replied to my question. I hope to help someone in Return someday.
Excuse me I have to go and find the proper place to post my next question. I will probably get that wrong as well..
