More recent LCD displays use circular polarization, which eliminates the problem.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

My center LCD displays are dim during daylight hours. This includes my climate control screen as well. The dimmer knob only works when the lights are on and doesn’t seem to be the issue. Anyone else run into this issue? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Are you wearing polarized sun glasses? The screen in my 997.2 seems to be polarized at a 45-degree angle.

POST 3Original post

Duh!! Well don’t I feel dumb now! I’m gonna have to check it without the sunglasses

POST 4Original post

At least Porsche was smart enough to use LCD's with a 45 degree polarization. Back when LCD displays first appeared on cars - a lot were at 0 or 90 degrees, and depending on how your polarized sunglasses were aligned - they were either fully bright, or completely black. More recent LCD displays use circular polarization, which eliminates the problem.

POST 5Original post

If it's like my 2012, if you tilt your head 45 degrees to one side, the Nav screen will get brighter and if you tilt 45 degrees the other way, the screen goes completely dark - looking in the normal position, screen brightness is in between. If I recall, the other little displays are 45 degrees but 90-degrees opposite the Nav screen. I have also noticed this issue is solved in newer cars. I think the idea with polarized sun glasses is the reflections from the road and hood, which cause bright glare spots, get horizontally polarized by the horizontal reflecting surfaces, so vertically polarized sun glasses will cut that bright horizontally polarized glare. I made a wishful mistake in post #2 above, I have a 987.2 , not 997.2 .

POST 6Original post

My 2025 does the same; it really is annoying!!

POST 7Original post

Does anyone know if there is a quick fix for that???

POST 8Original post

I have similar problems with head up displays and polarised sunglasses. The answer is non-polarised sunglasses!
