Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I have a 99 and swapped out mine for a 99 986 unit - no difference even with the 986 part number.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I want to swap out my amber headlight units with the clear and noticed that the part numbers are different for 996 and 986 Boxster even though they look identical. The price for the Boxster is also much cheaper. Anyone know if there is any reason that the Boxster light wouldn't work in the 996??

Stay with same year. ie, Gen 1 996 and gen 1 986 and they will fit. You can't of course expect a 99 boxster unit to fit in a gen 2 2002 996. I have a 99 and swapped out mine for a 99 986 unit - no difference even with the 986 part number.
