Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

During my recent track weekend, my reverse sensor on my manual tranny somehow got stuck on. Everything else still worked fine (though my head unit is always was backup camera mode). Step #1 After getting home, I put it up on jacks and pulled the sensor. Depressing the button on the sensor initiates the reverse lights on and off exactly as expected. Step #2 I remove the cover the sensor screws into. Everything in there looks good. Had the missus move the shifter around.. all things seem to be moving smoothly. Step #3 Installed the cover again, installed the sensor... and now there is NO backup lights at all. Step #4 Pulled the cover back off, with the sensor still in it this time. Pushing the button still initiates the lights. Any ideas? I haven't found a lot of info about this online. Everyone replaces the switch and it works again, but my switch is already working. Something else is wrong. Here is a picture of the lobe that I believe is probably supposed to be pushing the sensor button. Maybe you've been in there before and can tell what is wrong. I can hope.

POST 2Original post

Your switch is working when it is off its mount and manually operated, but doesn't work when it's on the mounting. It may still be bad even though it works in a manual mode. Whatever lever or button that is rubbed or pushed by the lobe may have worn down or become bent so that the lobe can no longer push it far enough. I'd replace it.

POST 3Original post

@racergreg That is exactly right. After posting this last week I came to that same conclusion. The next morning I ordered the new switch. It came in today. I installed it an hour ago and it completely fixed the problem. Comparing new to old, the old one has a lot of play before it feels like something is engaging, while the new feels like it engages immediately.
