Hi
Got the "System fault visit workshop" message on dash. Also
OBD
using my
Topdon
Topscan is only picking up Park Assist in the car & none of the other modules - says "not exist". I've read somewhere that it's likely to be the Gateway Control Module as it handles communication in the car between modules - is this correct ? Car drives fine & electrics are ok aside from intermittent issues with windows not dropping when the doors are opened/ going back up when closed (related to Gateway Control Module ?). I have a replacement Gateway Control Module ready to fit - what's the best way to get to the one in the car ? I know about the video on Youtube re replacing the ignition switch but sure I read something about going in through the cowl area under the wipers Thanks.

I rather doubt if you could get to it via the external cowl area. It's separated by a very sturdy bit of body called a "firewall" - and there are only small holes in it to accommodate things like the steering shaft, wiring, etc.
I'm not familiar with the "
Topdon
Topscan" - is it a
Porsche
specific tool? You'll need to configure the replacement gateway to the car you're putting it into, and to do that the easiest way is to read and store the settings in the existing one on a diagnostics tool, and then write these settings back to the replacement gateway after installing it.
If you have a
Porsche
specific tool - most of them have the capability of testing things like switches and such, they're able to tell you when they're open and when they're closed. They also can control parts of the car like the windows - you can open/close them using the diagnostics tool.
If you're serious about doing DIY stuff on a
Porsche
, investing in such a tool early on is a wise investment. It will help prevent troubleshooting by changing parts (what you're doing now) based on guesswork (also doing), and you won't be replacing unnecessary parts - which can get awfully expensive really fast.
And yes - the Gateway does control most of the communicatons between modules, but some devices are wired such that they talk directly to each other. Again - the right diagnostics tool will help test these items.
I see this was your first message on the forum. Congrats on getting it into the 987 section, but I'm going to move it to where we have technical chats about things that are broken and drivers are seeking help.
Meanwhile - Welcome to Planet-9, the Friendly
Porsche
Forum..
And PLEASE do stop by the new member intro section and tell us more about you and your
Porsche
. Things like knowing the year/series of your
Porsche
makes offering troubleshooting advice much easier and much more directed. There's an option for a "SIG" file - you might edit that and include that info. My SIG follows (as an overly long example..)
