Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

That's the oil I use but not for noise problem; just because IMHI it's the best.

Different oils can change the sound (louder or softer) but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Well, here is a new an unexpected sound after smoth sailing since taking out of storage. Had a semi-spirited highway drive, ending with smooth and slow city driving to get home and felt the engine feeling a bit "off" and was correct as there is a new "knocking" sound" as per link to video below: Now...the low fuel light came on with a 75km range left...my plan was to fill up tomorrow morning. What could this new noise be??

POST 2Original post

I should have added that last Fall, the AOS was replaced after failing, and the shop performed a leak-down test which measured 5% across all cylinders (considered very good-excellent).

POST 3Original post

Honestly, sounds like the usual lifter tap that is on these motors. Different oils can change the sound (louder or softer) but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. What oil are you using? How many miles on the motor/car?

POST 4Original post

Hmm, I hope you're right in it being a "usual" noise for these engines. Car/motor has 95,000km (59,000mi) and currently using LiquiMoly Leichtlauf High Tech 5W 40, last changed just before storage, so that oil only has 500km or so on it. I have been thinking maybe good to switch to Drive DT40 as I have heard positive reviews on it making the engine quieter overall, and also the extra moly to help aid in reducting wear on the cylinder walls.

POST 5Original post

No issue with changing before storage... at least not IMO. You can certainly switch to DT40 - I think people found it reduced the noise as well. Eg: https://www.planet-9.com/threads/possible-solution-to-lifter-tick-problem.251179/

POST 6Original post

POST 7Original post

I was hoping to take a peek at the belt and pulleys, but no time this weekend unfortunately. The shop that services the car said dto swing by so they can have a quick look. Fingers crossed it's a "normal" sound that I am yet to get used to!

POST 8Original post

Took it to my mechnic and he said it sounds sweet as a nut and very "quiet" for this generation. He said about 90% perfect. He suggested driving it harder more often...so be it.
