I had the radio going, so I don't swear to it, but I am pretty sure I heard some kind of vacuum being filled when I broke it (a quick hiss).

Suggestion

Just as well that you replaced it, but for those instances when you cannot easily access the ends for replacement, or you need a quick fix while either waiting to get the part, or waiting for a day off of work to accomplish the repair, one can use a barbed fitting as a coupler in the hose line.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I was just replacing my AOS , and broke this line while trying to find some finger room. I had the radio going, so I don't swear to it, but I am pretty sure I heard some kind of vacuum being filled when I broke it (a quick hiss). I have been looking through microfiche and can't figure out what it is. It seems to run up under the air intake manifold, which I haven't removed yet to trace further. Hoping someone knows what it is so I don't have to dismantle my engine to find out where it leads. Its somewhat hard plastic, and was brittle (16 years and 156000 miles brittle).

POST 2Original post

Based on this video, I think its a throttle body vacuum line.

POST 3Original post

Just to follow up, yes, it was a vacuum line. I bought a couple meters and replaced all of the line.

POST 4Original post

Just as well that you replaced it, but for those instances when you cannot easily access the ends for replacement, or you need a quick fix while either waiting to get the part, or waiting for a day off of work to accomplish the repair, one can use a barbed fitting as a coupler in the hose line. Works in a pinch until you can make a permanent repair or replacement.

POST 5Original post

I put the ends into some fuel line with hose clamps on it and drove like that for a couple weeks till I had time to replace it all. Thanks for the suggestion on the barbed fittings. I can see that working well also.

POST 6Original post

That was good thinking, also. That’s what I like about home wrenching, find some simple, easy fix or hack to remedy the problem. Find your inner ‘MacGyver’.
