Was about to go at it with BFH and guess what - Found the key in shoebox in garage with other Boxster items I "cleaned" out before storage last year.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

Just put car up on jacks. Go to grab the locking lug bolt key and Trying to think of last shop to work on it. Is there anyone in Western NY that could lend me a key? I'm in Rochester.

POST 2Original post

Get a cheap 12pt socket that will almost slide over the wheel lock... Then hammer the crap out of it onto the wheel lock. Use a ratchet to remove the wheel lock as normal. Then buy regular lug bolts and toss wheel locks and any idea of ever putting wheel locks on anything else in the garbage.

POST 3Original post

What Qingdao said. I believe an 19mm 12-point will be your ticket. Pound it on over the key nut and twist it off with a ratchet. I bought a car once that had those things and no key. It worked like a charm.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I like the way you're thinking!!! Have a joke for you not completely PC. Little Johnny gets a question from teacher. Johnny there are 5 birds sitting on a telephone wire and a man shoots one off. How many are left. Johnny thinking out loud says - man shoots a gun, gun is loud. I'd say it scares all the birds and none are left. Teacher - wow Johnny I like the way your are thinking but the correct answer is 4. Johnny - well I have a question for you. There are 3 ladies sitting on a park bench eating ice cream cones. One is nibbling at the tip. One is licking around the edge, and one has the cone all the way in her mouth. Which one is married. Teacher blushes and says I guess it's the one with the cone in her mouth. Johnny - no it's the one with a wedding ring but I like the way you're thinking!!!

POST 5Original post

I have a bag of wheel locks and keys. I can send you for the cost of shipping.

POST 6Original post

Or... just purchase four nuts/bolts/whatever that are one to two sizes smaller in diameter than the others and install one on each wheel. If a criminal really wants the wheels we hope he didn't bring that smaller socket.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tried the 18 mm. Can't see how that would work. Are you saying force smaller socket onto the round protrusion in front of locking lug bolt?

When ready I have 20+ std ones I can sell u cheap + shipping but cannot get out until I'm back where I keep them (mid/late April). Love seeing sense of humor 'round here again

POST 12Original post

You can go to a dealer and get a replacement key. They are cheap, and most dealers have them in stock. That's what I did. Tony

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you Moosport for saving the day!!!

POST 14Original post

Went to a Porsche dealership to have them match up the keyed lug from their master key set. They finally found it. Rather than buying a key, they agreed to pull out all 4 keyed lugs and replace them with unkeyed. Am very happy.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Moosport saved the day!!! But - thee keys are not all the same and his doesn't fit my old ones. Was about to go at it with BFH and guess what - Found the key in shoebox in garage with other Boxster items I "cleaned" out before storage last year.

POST 16Original post

I found myself in this same exact situation this wknd trying to switch out some rims, went to our dealer today..No such luck on dealer replacements, I may be doing the 19mm BFH process this wknd, the only place I had not looked yet is under my seats, which will be done tonight ..!!

POST 17Original post

Go to any tire installer, they will have a key to remove it.

POST 18Original post

Recently I used a 12pt 11/16" socket and hammer method to get my locking bolts out. Worked way better than the 19mm rounded nut remover tool I bought.

POST 19Original post

Yes,.STL-986 Dealer said do ya have a Discount tire close.LOL Luckily I found it in the passenger seat rear pocket..Damn NO clue why I would put it in there !!

POST 20Original post

Good afternoon everyone, Like others, I thought I had lost my lug bolt key as well. I looked everywhere imaginable, except where I found it - in the pocket of my spare tire cover, still in the plastic bag waiting patiently for me to put it to use. I will, one time only. Then I’ll put the 4 new lug bolts on instead. For those who have been asking about the part number for this little headache, it’s JD04402 - at least that’s what is printed on my plastic bag. Big thanks to the previous owner who saved everything associated with my boxster.

Thank Lowski, I was able to get 3 out 4 using your method with 12pt 11/16" socket . The 4 lock lug is on so tight that striped the 11/16 a bit and not biting . I could try to bang in a 12pt 17mm socket. The lt400 25 is too big to fit into the Victor equipment rim. I don't care about damaging the rim as I have a spare rim. Any other ideas on how to get it off? I went to Porsche they told me that the key are discontinued and no longer available. The Porsche mechanic at Porsche has a master key set but missing 3 keys and of course mine is the one with the missing key. I'm hoping I don't have to take it to a shop to get it drill out.
